2013 was not a very high output year for me, creatively. I spent the first six months ludicrously busy, and the latter half of the year trying to find my groove again.

masterlist and some thoughts )
Huh, apparently I was busy across a variety of formats last month.

Fic & podfic for [livejournal.com profile] dogdaysofsummer:

Two Steps Back (inc. podfic)
Remus busies himself at the stove while Sirius looks around, a strange, tight feeling in his chest as he takes in the life that Remus has built without him.
Harry Potter ; Remus/Sirius ; PG-13 ; 1100 words

All The Umbrellas In London (and podfic)
Harry Potter ; Remus/Sirius ; PG-13 ; 800 words

Fic & a vid for [community profile] kink_bingo:

Enclosed
For a long moment, everything is still, Jack and Gwen's hands entwined over Ianto's rapidly-beating heart, and Ianto doesn't know what happens now.
Torchwood ; Jack/Gwen/Ianto ; adult ; 1500 words
LJ | DW

Your Skin Like A Canvas
Morgana felt as though she were anointing Gwen in hidden places.
Gwen/Morgana ; PG-13 ; 600 words

How it is May, what? Excuse me while I rock quietly in a corner, muttering to myself about Big Bang and VVC. *whimper*

---

Lots of exciting fannish things continue apace! Your input is requested in many areas:

[personal profile] oxoniensis is polling about when to hold the next Porn Battle
The good souls of Remix have some questions about possible changes to qualifying stories and inclusion of RPF. (Also, though I warn you this will suck you into a timedrain of constant refreshing, [livejournal.com profile] remixredux09 has the BEST HEADER EVER, omg. Hot people with guns! <3)
[livejournal.com profile] femslash09 wants votes on which fandoms to include as listed fandoms in this year's round 1

---

1 I am glad to see lots of fandoms making good showings there. (Merlin! Leverage! Pushing Daisies!) but especially so to see Skins. This leads me to believe there may be some decent stories out there. Emily/Naomi recs, anyone? I am inherently lazy, and if no one points me in any other direction I'll just end up watching [livejournal.com profile] obsessive24's Soil, Soil over and over. Oh, that's right, I do that anyway. :D Drive-by rec - it is some seriously gorgeous editing and also ADORABLE, and led me to check out the rest of Skins S3, having not bothered previously. I feel like I could say something or other about how startlingly well they wrote Emily and Naomi's storylines, considering the epic soap opera that is Skins, but mostly I just want to draw big hearts around them. Much like the show itself does!
Someone Else's Shoes
"This has happened before?" Gwen asked. Tosh really didn't know why she sounded surprised.
Torchwood ; Tosh, Gwen (background canon pairings) ; PG-13 ; 3500 words ; bodyswap!fic

The Shorter Hours
Merlin shrugged agreeably, self-preservation winning out over the truth of the matter.
Merlin ; Merlin, Arthur (gen-to-preslash) ; PG-13 ; 6000 words ; spoilers for 1x13

no more yielding
The first burst of snow fell on Camelot all day.
Merlin ; Morgana/Gwen, Merlin/Arthur ; PG-13 ; 950 words

VID: Glorious [multi-fandom]

Now, it's definitely a terrible idea for me to sign up for [livejournal.com profile] bigbangblackout, even though it is a challenge All About Sirius and it looks very well-run and I did check, and I could use an existing 'verse, and so I could, theoretically, use this as an opportunity to get into gear and finally write what is probably the last long HP story I've got in me. Theoretically. Like I said, though, terrible idea. More generally, though, I am watching the comm gleefully, it's well worth checking out!
Forging Fate (The Worlds Collide)
Asriel has never believed in destiny.
His Dark Materials ; Lord Asriel (Asriel/Marisa) ; PG-13 ; 1400 words ; written for Yuletide.

Remember Me As A Time Of Day
In an open field, under a morning sky, two women sleep.
Merlin ; Morgana/Gwen ; PG-13 ; 1400 words ; amnesia!fic

Desperate Times, Desperate Measures
"We tried everything, Jack," Gwen said mournfully. "I'm sorry."
Torchwood ; Jack, Gwen, Ianto ; G ; 700 words ; gen and silliness ; written for [livejournal.com profile] redismycolour

Kisslets
Doctor Who & Torchwood ; various pairings ; 4400 words ; PG-13

the one where the team are snails
John missed things like opposable thumbs and the ability to put some of his crap down occasionally, but having a shell was pretty cool, especially after Teyla-snail had helped him decorate.
Stargate Atlantis ; Team ; G ; 600 words

A Manner Of Speaking
Jack talks pretty much continuously in bed.
Torchwood ; Jack/Ianto ; R ; 600 words

Rise and Fall
Gwen checks and pours over every joint in Morgana's armour, pressing her hands over the metal plates.
Merlin ; Morgana/Gwen ; PG-13 ; 500 words

VID: Oh What A World
Doctor Who; the Doctor

Word Count - 11,600 words written, 8200 words first posted this month.

In which Remus has research fatigue, Sirius gets into a fight, and sleep is a long-overdue luxury.
Remus/Sirius ; PG ; 900 words

Torchwood

Other friends make out drunkenly at parties, they apparently kiss when at death's maw most dire. It's a long time since anyone's accused either of them of being functional, after all.
McKay/Sheppard ; PG-13 ; 2800 words ; spoilers through 5x14

***

And yes, that does pretty much tell you everything you need to know about how my NaNo went. *sigh* At least the story exists now, and has words and so on. Just... not all that many.
Posted In October:

Give Me That Unbridled Sky
Torchwood ; Jack/Ianto, the Doctor ; PG ; 3000 words ; for [livejournal.com profile] cherryfeather
"So when you said we were going somewhere a little different tonight, you meant--" / "Anywhere in time and space."

In An Interstellar Burst
Doctor Who ; Donna, Rose/Martha ; PG-13 ; 3000 words ; 'Journey's End' AU
Donna's got a teleport, Rose has an aversion to beaches, and maybe Martha's not quite as done with all of this as she thought. Next stop: everywhere.

Just Save The First Edition For Me
Good Omens ; Aziraphale/Crowley ; PG ; 900 words ; for [livejournal.com profile] melandry
In which Aziraphale accidentally sells a book, and finds himself dangerously near to parting with another.

Prompt Ficbits [Whoverse, Firefly, SGA, HDM, HP]
(sorry I didn't get to more of these in the end, by the by!)

VID: Butterflies and Hurricanes
Torchwood ; Gwen

And now, NaNo calls. Oh my.
Posted In September:

Late Bloom
Harry Potter ; Remus/Sirius ; PG-13 ; 10,000 words ; AU
Sirius, the dutiful eldest son of the mighty Black family, has almost entirely lost his own hopes and dreams. An unexpected meeting with a long-forgotten friend might just change everything.

I Heard A Whisper (The Way I Might Have Been)
Torchwood (& Doctor Who) ; Jack/Ianto ; PG-13 ; 10,000 words ; spoilers through 'Journey's End'
The whole world's in danger, if Ianto's to believe the bloke who's showed up claiming to be his time-travelling parallel universe boyfriend. It's the start of a funny old week.

The Alien-Fighters' Social Club
Torchwood/Stargate: Atlantis ; Team Torchwood & Team Sheppard ; PG-13 ; 2500 words
Sheppard and his team were to stay based with Torchwood Three until such a time as the Daedalus was in orbit. A chance to improve inter-organisational relations, apparently.

The Light In My Eyes Is Strange
Doctor Who ; Rose, Jack ; PG ; 1000 words ; 'Journey's End' missing scene
Rose knows the answer and it makes it hard to ask. "What have I done to you?"

Tristan, a Jack vid

---

I didn't get as many things finished off this month as I would have liked, which leaves me with a lot to attempt to rattle off before I am engulfed by NaNo. Top of the list are the sequel to 'Late Bloom' and the Ianto inna TARDIS (working title) story for [livejournal.com profile] cherryfeather.

---

And now, some recs. Because I always get excited when I find interesting or unusual Torchwood fic. (One of these days, when I've decided I definitely have the time, I want to look into starting up a sort of Torchwood version of [livejournal.com profile] quibbler_report.)

Call Me On Your Wedding Day, We'll Grow Flowers In The Morgue, by [livejournal.com profile] paperclipbitch
Torchwood, PG-13, Owen/Katie, Ianto/Lisa, Katie/Lisa
“We’re aftershocks.”

This is so perfectly Torchwood - odd, morbid, a little unsettling, and just very tragic. In which Owen and Ianto are left behind, and Jack is distant, and Katie and Lisa are just... elsewhere.

The Five Greatest Deaths of Jack Harkness' Life (Sort Of), by [livejournal.com profile] shadowsaine
Torchwood, PG-13, Jack/Ianto, Jack/others
Jack has done this dozens of times, every one different, every one the same. Except this time.

In which Jack tells stories. It's Jack/Ianto as a framing device, but really this is about Jack, his life and his many, many deaths, from the absurd to the heroic. It's also desperately sad by the end, you have been warned.

Flowers For His Mother, by [livejournal.com profile] happi_feet
Torchwood, G, Jack
"A stranger rolls into a small town on the Boeshane peninsula, and while his clothing and accent are strange he knows things most offworlders don't know, like how to perform the intricate tea ritual and all the old songs..."

In which Jack goes home. The writing of this is beautiful.

The Sins Of Adam, part one and part two, by [livejournal.com profile] neadods
Doctor Who, PG-13, Nine, Jack, Rose
So - what would the Doctor make of having Captain Jack running around his TARDIS, especially so soon after what happened with Adam in The Long Game?

The Doctor is perfect in this -- Nine! I miss you! -- and it's exactly the kind of thing glossed over by canon but perfect for fanfic. It's clever and funny and says an awful lot about the developing dynamic of the original OT3. [livejournal.com profile] neadods has got me pretty much convinced this must have happened.
Harry Potter:

Sailed On Shooting Stars
Weddings don't change anything that really matters.
Remus/Sirius, PG, 900 words.

The Basic Art Of Communication
Wherein chaos is unleashed, Lily Evans proves corruptible, and Sirius is trying to say something important, probably.
Remus/Sirius, PG-13, 3500 words. For [livejournal.com profile] rs_games.

Four Gen Ficbits
featuring Marlene McKinnon, Remus and Minerva, Neville and Slughorn, Harry and James.

Doctor Who:

Your History Written In Stars And Time
Donna's forgotten. The universe hasn't.
Donna, PG, 1500 words, spoilers for 'Journey's End'.

Going Home
Come home, come home, home to my warm embrace.
Ensemble finale cast, canon pairings, PG, 1400 words, a 'Journey's End' coda.

Harry Potter:
The Tyranny of Petty Things (The Unconquered Skies Remix)

Jack/Ianto, PG, 1300 words.

Lovely, I am by and large pleased with those! And now, I wait for Remix, ooh.
All right, new thing I'm trying, we'll see if it sticks.

Posted in January:
(some of these were written as early as November, but such is the nature of exchanges I suppose.)

Harry Potter:

All Ye Faithful
HP, Neville, others
PG-13, 5700 words
Neville can't bear to leave Hogwarts in the holidays, but a happy Christmas may be hard to find.
-- I'm pleased I wrote this. One of the nice things about exchanges is how they often push me to try something new, and this was certainly that. Also, Neville. ♥

Rainstorms
HP, Padma/Luna
PG-13, 3500 words
The first time Padma noticed Luna Lovegood, really noticed her, she was standing outside in the pouring rain.
-- I remain very fond of this one. If possible, I do believe it made me like Luna even more.

These Bright Lights Calling
HP, Remus/Sirius
PG-13, 1500 words
Seven times Remus thought he was invincible.
-- I've written these two so many times now that it's sometimes a bit tricky to find anything new worth saying. But I got there in the end - when in doubt, write vignettes, apparently! This let me remind myself about lots of little things I love about the Marauders.

Other Fandoms:

Make Believe
Skins, Cassie
PG, 1500 words
Queen Cassie would like to present herself to her royal court
-- Ah, Yuletide. This reminds me, actually, I'm really rather excited for Skins starting back up again!

Four Midsummers
His Dark Materials, Will
PG, 1500 words
Four of Will's Midsummer days.
-- A small sample of things I would still love to write about this lot, and yet manage to fail to get around to. One day, one day!

The Night Shift
Firefly, Kaylee, Wash, Zoe
PG, 1000 words
The stars shine bright when you can't sleep.
-- I love the language of this universe so, so much, and intend on further practice in manipulating it for my own devices. And the friendship between Kaylee and Wash is one of my favourite little things about the programme.

World Enough and Time
Torchwood, Jack/Ianto, team
PG-13, 900 words
Jack has never been more grateful for the here and now.
-- Or, basically, some of my personal canon for the Year That Never Was. With added Ianto, just because. :)

---

Coming up: I have my three (!) stories from [livejournal.com profile] hp_quotathon to post; also, I have an idea floating around from the latest episode of Torchwood that I haven't really had time to work out the specifics of yet, but I'm hoping that will pop up soon.
