Here is a big spreadsheet of prompts on Google Drive, alternatively, here's the prompts post.

Go forth and create! When you've made something, post a link to it in this post.

-- Fills do not have to be in response to a specific prompt.
-- All kinds of fanworks welcome and can be posted on any site, just link back here.
-- There is no deadline - fills are welcome at any time.
-- If you post fanworks on the AO3, there is an AO3 collection.

Hello! Got some time over the next few hours to sift through a gdocs spreadsheet and tidy it up? I'm putting the prompts list together now but will be out for a bit and would be grateful if anyone would like to go through and spellcheck/standardise prompts.

Leave a comment if you'd like to help and I'll send you the link once it's ready.

Thanks! <3
Time Loops. Truth Serum. Tentacles. Fandom loves its tropes! But female characters don't always get enough of a look in for the wacky fun of bodyswap and high school AUs, and that's where this fest comes in.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to create a female character-centric fanwork that uses at least one fannish trope.

NEW THIS YEAR: after some consideration I've decided to open this up to gen and het f/m relationships as well as relationships between women, provided that the fanwork focuses on the female character, or is a roughly 50/50 split between characters. E.g., an Elementary fic in which Joan and Sherlock switch bodies, told from both POVs = okay, but fanart showing Sherlock stuck in a time loop while Joan looks on wouldn't qualify. I trust your judgement! We'll see how it goes this year.

Also this new year: this has always been allowed, but this year I would like to actively welcome tumblr-style graphics and gifs. Fanworks don't have to be posted to DW, just linked here.

Timeline:

Now: open for prompts
Friday May 3rd: prompts collated, open for fills

Fanworks do not have to be in response to a specific prompt or one of the tropes listed below, these are just to get you started. The term 'female character' should be understood to include all characters that canonically identify as or present as women or girls some or all of the time.

tropes )

Prompt formatting: Please submit your prompts in one comment, in the format Fandom, characters/ships, prompt. Please only use commas to divide those categories, ie not in a list of characters.

Examples:

Any fandom, any queer character, undercover straight
Avengers, Pepper and Natasha and Maria, road trip
Community, Annie/Troy/Abed, everyone thinks they're dating
Doctor Who, River/Eleven, bodyswap
Elementary, Joan, wingfic
Elementary, Joan, telepathy
Legend of the Seeker, Cara/Kahlan, they find a baby

prompt away!

eta: I'm now collating prompts, so please don't edit your comments. If you add more prompts I will try and add them to the list but there may be a delay.
... coming soon to a Dreamwidth near you!

So it occurs to me it's once again time to ramp up for the Female Character Trope Fest, in which we delight in the fannish catnip of tropes like high school AUs and bodyswap and sex pollen, centred around women and relationships between women.

How would people like it to run this year? Prompt post and fanworks post like in the past? Kink meme style? General flash fanwork challenge with less emphasis on individual prompts? Let me know!

+ Thank you very much to everyone for your lovely comments at [personal profile] ephemere's love meme, which looks to still be going strong! <333

+ There are now six trope fest fills - a Luther/Torchwood crossover, two Homestuck fics, and one each in Avengers, Misfits and Harry Potter.

+ I haven't had a much of a chance to dive into the rarewomen stories yet, but I love the story I received! Oh, Sarah Connor, my heart beats for you.

Stories We Tell Ourselves (3084 words) by faviconBeatrice_Otter
Fandom: Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
Rating: General Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Sarah Connor, Catherine Weaver, John Henry
Summary: Weaver returns post-born to run, with an offer for Sarah.

I also really enjoyed this story recently (set in the DW 6x13 'verse):

Between Two Points (3910 words) by faviconxenoamorist
Fandom: Doctor Who (2005)
Rating: Explicit
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Amy Pond/Rory Williams
Characters: Amy Pond, Rory Williams
Summary: She’s always been particularly fond of Captain Williams, although she can never articulate why. She just knows that he feels familiar and right.
The female character trope fest is now open for fills! Here is a giant list of prompts in fandoms from A Song of Ice and Fire to Yuu Yuu Hakusho. Rules and guidelines here.

To recap:

+ If you've been meaning to leave trope fest prompts, now is the time! I'll put up a post with all the prompts in the morning and the fest will be open for fills. There are currently over 600 hundred prompts in well over 100 fandoms. \o/

Some other fun things happening at the moment:

+ [community profile] kink_bingo is hosting a kinkmeme promptfest.

+ [personal profile] torachan is hosting the Transfic Mini fest.

+ [community profile] companions is hosting a drabble tag for Doctor Who companions.
There are a bunch of awesome promts coming in at the trope fest, yay!

I got bored and made some banners, if anyone would like to use them: six under the cut )
It's three weeks for Dreamwidth time again, which has crept up somewhat. That means it's time to run the Trope Fest again, yay!

As this came up a few times last time, from TV Tropes (warning: horrifically addicting website), this is what a trope is:

Tropes are devices and conventions that a writer can reasonably rely on as being present in the audience members' minds and expectations. On the whole, tropes are not clichés. The word clichéd means "stereotyped and trite." In other words, dull and uninteresting. We are not looking for dull and uninteresting entries. We are here to recognize tropes and play with them, not to make fun of them.

Here are the rules, slightly modified from last year:

1. This a fest that hopes to encourage more fanworks about relationships between female characters, both gen and femslash. The term 'female character' should be understood to include all characters that canonically identify as or present as women or girls some or all of the time. I trust your judgement!

2. All fanworks are allowed. This includes but is not limited to art, vids, fic, podfic, graphics, crafts, filks, rec lists, meta and picspam. Fanworks can be posted as comments or posted to your own journal/webspace and left as a link. Fanworks can be made as a response to a specific prompt or simply featuring any of the tropes listed below, and you’re welcome to create things for your own prompts.

3. Please include the following information in some format when posting:

Title:
Fandom:
Characters/Ships:
Rating:
Trope:
Content Notes: (choose not to provide/none apply/contains non-con/dub-con/underage sex/graphic violence/other)

4. Timeline:

Friday 27th April (now): Post opens for prompts.
Wednesday 2nd May: Post goes up for fills.

5. Prompting: please format your prompts as 'fandom, characters/ship, prompt'. Examples:

'Any fandom, any queer female character, undercover straight'
'Community, Annie/Britta, strip poker'
'The Good Wife/White Collar, Kalinda and Diana (gen or slash), stuck in a lift'
'Legend of Korra, Korra and Lin, bodyswap'

You can leave as many prompts as you want per comment, and feel free to edit, though once I start collating prompts on Tuesday I can't guarantee your edits will make the list. Please also be considerate when prompting for currently airing canon and avoid major spoilers.

6. If you have any problems, questions or concerns at any stage during festivities, feel free to send me a PM or email me at such.heights at gmail. If you aren’t subscribed to my journal and want to keep up to date with the fest, you can subscribe to the tag 'female character trope fest'.

BIG LIST OF TROPES )

Prompt away!
The fest is now open for fanwork responses! You can post any fanwork that features a relationship of some kind between two or more female characters and plays with a popular genre/fandom trope of some kind. You can respond to a specific prompt, including your own, or write something in accordance with your own interests. You do not have to claim a prompt, and multiple people can respond to the same prompt.

All fanworks are allowed. This includes but is not limited to art, vids, fic, podfic, graphics, crafts, filks, rec lists, meta and picspam. Fanworks can be posted as comments or posted to your own journal/webspace and left as a link. I encourage you to consider using this fest as a way to participate in [community profile] three_weeks_for_dw, a celebration starting today that marks Dreamwidth's two-year anniversary and encourages users to create unique, DW-only content. However, if you would prefer to include an AO3/LJ/other link, that is also totally fine.

eta: There is now an AO3 collection for this fest.

Please include the following information when posting, as a minimum:

The masterlist of prompts is here -- totalling at a little under 800. \o/ Huge thanks to [personal profile] thady, [personal profile] pocky_slash, [livejournal.com profile] sunnyrea, [personal profile] fhionnuisce, [personal profile] zephre, [personal profile] frigg, [personal profile] thedivinegoat, [personal profile] nonisland and [personal profile] rabid_bookwyrm for collating, organising and coding it all.

More information about the fest here, including big list of tropes!

If you have a question or concern, feel free to email me (such.heights at gmail), send me a PM, or comment under the Q&A thread at the top of the comments of this post.

Masterlist )
So! We had twenty-three fanworks in the first three weeks or so of the challenge, which is completely awesome.

If you have an AO3 account and would like to/already have posted your story over there, I've created an AO3 collection.

Both the AO3 collection and the masterlist post on my journal will stay open/updated indefinitely, because look at all the awesome prompts there are! My own original idea for this challenge has ... grown, somewhat, so I'm going to see if I can rattle off something smaller this week.

Thanks to everyone who contributed and created! <3
+ This year's [community profile] kink_bingo round is drawing to a close. If you got a card last year, have yet to post anything to the comm, and would like to get a card for the next round, you need to make a post there by the end of the 15th. More details at the comm.

+ [community profile] femslash11 is gearing up! Here is a poll where you can express interest in the fandoms you'd like to see represented as listed fandoms. I'm pleased that Avatar TLA is doing so well! Yay!

+ I have just updated the female character trope fest masterlist - there are presently 21 fanworks in 17 fandoms. \o/ If you would like to add to that total and are a deadline-orientated type, I will just mention that Three Weeks for Dreamwidth festivities end on Sunday, so if you've got something sitting around, do feel free to clean it up and post. However, that post will be open indefinitely for your fanworks, so you can respond to any of the prompts or tropes at any time.

+ DOCTOR AND THE PONDS TIME TOMORROW, AS WRITTEN BY NEIL GAIMAN. a;sldkjas; MY SHOW LOVES ME.

+ There is an anonymous love meme going around, yay, and I have a thread here. <3
+ Fills are starting to come in at the trope fest! There are stories for SGA, Doctor Who, Leverage, Black Swan and Hawaii Five-0 so far. Lots more to come, I hope! I assume we've been off to a relatively slow start because everyone is working on EPIC MASTERPIECES, right? *g*

+ There are so many things going on! [personal profile] livrelibre has a good list of links here.

+ So I am now thinking about what I would like to do for this Dreamwidth party! Aside from making some things for the trope fest, as soon as I can decide between all the amazing prompts.

There are lots of things I could potentially do! There's a femslash mini meta thing going on at [community profile] fem_thoughts which is super cool, but none of the prompts there have spoken to me yet. So I could write some fannish meta or maybe make some picspams or themed rec lists or something. Or if you have any non-fannish topics or questions I could do that, idk if anyone has burning questions about anything I know anything about or have experience of, but I am open to your suggestions!
This is the masterlist of prompts for the female character trope fest. More information here.

Prompts )
I'll be away until Monday with limited internet access, so a few quick hits before I go:

+ [livejournal.com profile] beccatoria made When I Was A Boy, which is a lovely Doctor Who vid about Amy and Rory and gender roles and fairytales. <3

+ OH HEY, THAT SHOW WHAT I LIKE IS BACK ON IN TWO DAYS. I MIGHT BE A BIT EXCITED. Doctors and Ponds! Time and space! All my favourite things. a;sdkljs \o/

+ Female character trope fest continues to go super well! Some updates on that front: a magical team of elves is currently coding and updating a big prompt masterlist. Majority opinion wanted a new post for prompt fills. Therefore, on Monday when I get some time online - mid-morning to early afternoon UK time, I expect - I will close the prompts post, put up a new post with a link to all the prompts, and the fanwork extravaganza may begin. Thanks to everyone who's left prompts, linked it around and otherwise expressed their enthusiasm/support - this has gone from a cheap ploy to make people write some fic for me to something much cooler, and I'm excited that so many of you are excited.

+ And now back to packing and writing my Remix pinch-hit.
Two days in, and we have what I think can technically be termed a ton of prompts. Which is awesome!

Given we're now onto 17 pages of comments, a question - would you prefer to keep fills in the same post next week, kinkmeme style, or have a new post, porn battle style?

This poll is closed.

+ The response to the female character trope fest has been fabulous so far, thank you all very much! We are onto ten pages of prompts in under 24 hours, good grief. [personal profile] fly_to_dawn is my hero for coding up the first nine of those pages. Depending on how things are shaping up by Thursday or Friday, may need to slightly rethink structure in order to minimise unwieldiness.

‘Legend of the Seeker, Cara/Kahlan, they both have their reasons for keeping their distance, until their survival depends on their huddling together for warmth.’

6. If you have any problems, questions or concerns at any stage during festivities, feel free to send me a PM or email me at such.heights at gmail. If you aren’t subscribed to my journal and want to keep up to date with the fest, you can subscribe to the tag ‘female character trope fest’.
