It's my birthday! Thank you to everyone for your birthday wishes. Also I got presents!

VID: People Get Ready by [personal profile] kaydeefalls (Doctor Who, Amy/Rory, Eleven, River)

Reader, I cried. It's so beautiful and such a wonderful take on the Ponds' whole arc and I can't be coherent about it yet. I just love it a lot.

FIC: Could Have Danced All Night by [personal profile] lovelythings (Doctor Who, Amy/Rory, Eleven/River)

Pond family outing, yayyyy! With banter and dressup and loveliness. <3333

PICSPAM: An Abundance of Morstans by [personal profile] happydork (Elementary)

Lots of different fancastings for different people who could play a Mary Morstan equivalent for Joan. I CHOOSE ALL OPTIONS OMG.

♥♥♥

(PS [personal profile] purplefringe made me an Elementary vid but it's not online yet. I WILL LET YOU KNOW WHEN IT IS BECAUSE IT'S BEAUTIFUL.)
It is my birthday! I am being taken out to have tea and cake shortly, and tonight I am seeing Dylan Moran do stand-up. Life is good!

And I thought I would throw open the comments of this post for a bit of a party/mixer, if you are so inclined. Because I have awesome friends on the internet who ought to talk to each other. I am going to start a few threads momentarily as suggestions, feel free to add your own.

\o/
Thank you so much to everyone who's been sending birthday wishes my way via LJ and DW and Twitter and whatnot! I am having a lovely day, and later there will be cake and yummy Italian food.

Also, um, last night I was presented with a document marked 'Sekrit Project' containing messages from an awful lot of you. [personal profile] avendya got my live reactions, which involved a lot of keysmashing and also feelings (eta: now recorded for posterity), but I will attempt to be more coherent here.

Thank you, everyone who's taken the time to write a message in the last few days in response to [personal profile] avendya's missive. Some made me laugh, some made me cry, some made me do both in a somewhat undignified fashion, and all of them made me smile and smile. I do believe my heart has grown three sizes! And of course, special thanks to [personal profile] avendya for going above and beyond in order to organise this thing, and generally being amazing.

I am especially touched by the notes that came from self-described 'lurkers'. I hope no one ever feels obligated to comment on here, because I don't believe that a subscription is some kind of promise to comment or even read. I also believe that there are many valid ways of participating in a conversation, including watching, listening, reading and thinking, and I know that's the preferred mode of engagement for a lot of people. Also, lots of us just have busy lives! So it means a lot to me that you took the time to write me something and wish me well.

I feel very loved from many places today - from friends and family far away, from those I'm spending the day with, and from all of you. I am both humbled and grateful to be made to feel so welcome in such an expansive and amazing community. I'd like to thank you all for the joy, humour, support, compassion, creativity, thoughtfulness and fun that you share with me, every day.

---

* title on account of how I can't stop watching [personal profile] kaydeefalls' latest vid, Stray Italian Greyhound, a gorgeous Amy Pond character study. Kaydee, can you please continue to vid all my favourite female characters for ever and ever, thx!
I'm a couple of days late, but I wanted to wish a really happy birthday to the ever-lovely [livejournal.com profile] sambethe, I hope you had a fantastic day! If you'd like to drop me a prompt, I'd love to write something for you. ♥

---

Related, in a way, because I'm excited about getting caught up enough to talk to you all about this: I have been watching lots of Battlestar Galactica. I feel like it's taken me a long time to really get into it, but I got 100% sold towards the end of season two and now I am racing through series three whenever I have time.

sporadic spoilers through the whole series )

Talk BSG to me, guys! I think I've actually spoiled myself for most major plot points to date, but let's not put that to the test, shall we? I've watched through 3x16. Also, what I'd really love are vid recs if you had any to share [again, spoiler notes would be appreciated!] - I've been watching [livejournal.com profile] hollywoodgrrl's stuff and [livejournal.com profile] dualbunny's Kara vids, but I sense there would be an awful lot of good work out there!

♥ Happy, happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] keziath and [livejournal.com profile] amathela! I hope you both have wonderful days. ♥

I am not whinging about my life. That is what I am not doing. But I have thrown myself into the love meme, here, which probably tells you everything you need to know anyway. *runs off to find the rest of you to love on*
-- Happy, happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] snegurochka_lee for yesterday, [livejournal.com profile] elvenkitty for today and [livejournal.com profile] nk_aeode for tomorrow! ♥ ♥ ♥ I hope you all celebrate wonderfully.

-- I forgot to mention before, I'm reccing on [livejournal.com profile] calufrax all this week, a great community that highlights Whoniverse stories hosted on Teaspooon.

-- I'm working on too many things with not enough time, what else is new, and I do wish I could just sit down and take something right the way through the end as opposed to continually tacking small bits onto about half a dozen projects.

-- Said flitting around probably explains why more SGA fic decided to write itself last night:

The Twilight & The Peace
Stargate: Atlantis ; John/Rodney ; 1100 words ; a snippet of the far future for [livejournal.com profile] mcsmooch
"You're a sentimental old fool, you do know that?"
This weekend saw the birthdays of two very dear and old friends, gathered during my first fledgling days of fandom. [livejournal.com profile] nekare and [livejournal.com profile] magnetic_pole, happy birthday belatedly for Saturday! ♥ Below is a wee snippet as a token of my affection.

Let's Call This Whole Day Off
Harry Potter ; Remus/Sirius ; PG ; 900 words
In which Remus has research fatigue, Sirius gets into a fight, and sleep is a long-overdue luxury.

The last of their supply of candles were burning down as Remus reached for yet another yellowing file. )
01. There are some very awesome people celebrating birthdays just now. Happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] ignipes and [livejournal.com profile] topaz_eyes for today, and to [livejournal.com profile] lls_mutant and [livejournal.com profile] serpentpixie for tomorrow! You are all in the manner of bringing many delights to my flist. ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

02. Suspect I need to redo my Yuletide sign-up. Currently I appear to have offered Who RPF. Um. >.> We'll see if that makes the cut or not. (Help help someone talk me out of it?) Also, have currently offered Shakespeare, which is Terrifying. I am excited about my requests, though! I am hoping I get someone who actually wants to write any of the pairings I am angling for, as they all are hard to come by, yet ftw.

03. Yay for [livejournal.com profile] rs_small_gifts assigments. Someone is drawing me art! I am going to write a story for [livejournal.com profile] glass_icarus that has been tucked away in my brain since I saw her request! All is delightful.

04. Because good Lord but the holidays really are approaching once again, aren't they? I passed a Santa's Grotto today. o.O

05. I'm going to go work on that novel I'm supposedly writing now, for serious.
Just Save The First Edition For Me
Good Omens ; Aziraphale/Crowley ; PG ; 900 words
In which Aziraphale accidentally sells a book, and finds himself dangerously near to parting with another.

for the occasion of [livejournal.com profile] melandry's birthday!

There were customers in his shop. )

14. Jared/Jensen (Supernatural RPS)
15. CJ/Toby (The West Wing)

questions! answers are only spoilery for Doctor Who, I think )
Warm and very belated birthday wishes to the folks I've missed recently: happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] oddsbobs, [livejournal.com profile] ponkie, [livejournal.com profile] ladylai, [livejournal.com profile] fauxkaren, [livejournal.com profile] mindabbles, [livejournal.com profile] la_onza, [livejournal.com profile] out_there, [livejournal.com profile] _emeraldgreen and [livejournal.com profile] snorkackcatcher! I hope all of you had wonderful days. ♥ ♥ ♥

Rec! My story at [livejournal.com profile] dw_cross has been posted, and it is fantastic.

No Such Gorram Thing, by anonymous at [livejournal.com profile] dw_cross, PG-13, Doctor Who/Firefly.

In which the crew of Serenity variously encounter a strange man with a blue box. Funny, ingenious, and sometimes not a little gut-wrenching, this is a perfect meshing of two canons with bang-on insights into the characters from both shows.

---

The masterlist for Round Two of the [livejournal.com profile] rs_games is up! Authors stay anonymous until the 21st, and I know I have some catch-up reading to do before then. I really want to talk about my story, actually. *sits on hands*

HBP delayed until summer '09, oh noes! I'm not really invested in the films per se, but they're a lot of fun through the visor of fandom, and something to get HP fandom buzzing a little post-series. Mind you, having it in the summer is no bad thing in my book - plenty of time for multiple viewings and inappropriate amusement. (Ah, the OotP film, in the Summer of Potter, watching it on the IMAX screen with [livejournal.com profile] bruadar and laughing way too much at Aberforth and the goats, good times.)

Speaking of HP, I just found a whole bunch of ficbits written for [livejournal.com profile] hogwarts_elite contests, some of which are probably worth posting. I should get on that.

---

I'm very excited about the Torchwood radio play, now confirmed for broadcast on September 10th as Radio 4's Afternoon Play (hahahaha what will the Radio 4 crowd make of it?). Written by Joseph Lidster, previously seen writing 'A Day In The Death', and perhaps more importantly, a writer for Big Finish, I am hopeful this will be good! The link also provides information on how to listen to it if you're outside the UK.

The title of the miniseries they're doing next year has also been announced: 'Children of Earth', whatever that might mean. So there really is going to be a five-part honest to goodness plot, what show am I watching again? *g* I'm really interested to see what it's like with the new format, yet simultaneously sadfacing about British telly's continued aversion to lengthy shows. *sigh* It's a long time to 2010!

And lastly, I am so pleased the Who vid lovefest that I posted yesterday seems to be spreading the warm fuzzies out a little. This was the aim! I love my show and its immense amount of hugging.

Birthday!

[note: post contains spoilery images for the Doctor Who season finale.]

Today it is [livejournal.com profile] shaggydogstail's birthday, and I thought there should be celebratory picspam! )
I've Got A Diary, You Have All The Time In The World
Torchwood; Jack/Ianto, Gwen
PG-13, 2000 words
Summary: Jack's never really understood the point of celebratory days.
Notes: Set speculatively after Doctor Who S4, so casting spoilers for the finale. Undoubtedly makes a botch job of [livejournal.com profile] lefaym's excellent Torchwood timeline. Written in celebration of [livejournal.com profile] onehundredmoons' own anniversary - happy birthday!

'So, let me get this straight, you cleared the diary today so we could play with alien toys?' )
Baby Names
Harry Potter
James, Lily, Sirius
PG, 600 words
Summary: Coming up with names proves more challenging than previously imagined.
Notes: Inspired by JKR's recent prequel. Written for [livejournal.com profile] trowicia - happy birthday, darling! ♥

'Names! Baby names! A name to do proud to our imminent offspring.' )

♥ Happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] elsane, and [livejournal.com profile] madzilla for tomorrow! ♥

Hope both of you wonderful people have excellent days.

Also, I realise now I have yet to answer the questions some of you posed in this meme here.

Crossovers with absolutely zero exposition ahoy! )
Should Probably Talk About It
PG, 2500 words
Torchwood; Ianto, Tosh, background canon pairings
Summary: There's not really much of a support network in the event of the death of your alien girlfriend. Tosh and Ianto make do.
Notes: About a month ago, [livejournal.com profile] secondsilk had a birthday, and asked for these two. Apologies once again that this is so late! This story is something of a tag to Greeks Bearing Gifts. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] onehundredmoons for her help.

If these were the kind of lengths she had to go to in order to acquire better social skills, Tosh really couldn't help thinking that must make her a lost cause. )
Within The Lapping Waves
PG, 500 words
His Dark Materials; Mary, Mary/Alfredo
Summary: "So that was how I stopped being a nun."
Notes: Ages ago, I snapped up a prompt of [livejournal.com profile] glass_icarus' to write something about Mary Malone. Here is a snippet, for the occasion of her birthday - happy birthday, sweetie, and have a good one! Summary from The Amber Spyglass, text within from Matthew Arnold's 'Dover Beach'.

The sea is calm tonight. )
In The Room (Where People Come And Go)
Lily; ensemble
PG, 2000 words
Summary: New maternity brings guests.
Notes: For [livejournal.com profile] sambethe on her birthday, in appreciation of the fact that she manages to be all things - an excellent writer, ever-helpful beta, and a great friend. Have a good one! Also written to the [livejournal.com profile] 7spells prompt; in the room where women come and go.

'Yes, darling, you've said that already.' )

* o.O Holy multiplying comments, Batman! Torchwood fandom is evidently buzzing at the moment. Cool! And hello there to the new people joining the fun, too. *waves*

* There will be Doctor fic, either tonight or sometime tomorrow.

* Good Lord iPlayer loathes me and does not stream very smoothly at the moment (and no d/l support for Macs, grumble grumble). Watching 'Adam' like that last week was a nightmare, especially as it cut out completely in the last ten minutes! So shall probably save Torchwood watching for tomorrow when I can make it sort itself out better.

* Also, yay for new Supernatural tomorrow, which looks like it is going to be amazing, which will probably once again result in my being completely useless for most of the weekend as a result of combined yay!show! flail.

* But most importantly, because I am thick and completely did not get around to posting this yesterday:

♥ Happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] secondsilk! ♥

You write the most wonderful, intelligent stories and are always an excellent source of interesting conversation. I'm very glad indeed to know you. Hope you had a good one! There was going to be fic for you, but I got horribly indecisive about what to write, so if you'd like to decide for me, please do so. :)
These Bright Lights Calling
Remus/Sirius
PG-13, 1500 words
Summary: Seven times Remus thought he was invincible.
Notes: For [livejournal.com profile] remeciel, who had a birthday over a month ago. A thousand apologies that this is so late, my dear!

The world was surely theirs for the taking. )
