[personal profile] purplefringe made a vid about the Doctor Who Christmas specials, not quite in time for Christmas but in time for a burst of mid-January light. It gives me all the feelings in the whole world.

Halfway Out Of The Dark
Don't forget, I love, I love, I love you

It's like being wrapped up in a warm blanket for a few minutes, and I know I really needed that today.
Wow, I have barely updated since I started my new job. Turns out it's quite hard to get back into the swing of 9-5 after being out of work for two months, who knew.

I have managed to watch some of the great vids being posted recently though, so here have some recs.

MCU:
Zero by [personal profile] sweetestdrain (Natasha)
This is a brilliant look at Natasha over all the films so far, covering her central role in the story and how she's the one who assembled the Avengers.

1941 by [personal profile] rhoboat (Peggy)
Great song choice, great editing, great series overview. Peggy! \o/

I Lived by [personal profile] flummery (Steve/Peggy)
*ugly crying* their love is so tragic. sob. But really this is actually wonderfully optimistic in tone, because both of them are living the heck out of their lives even though they're apart. The bittersweet tinge is a punch in the gut though.

Korra, Sense8, Doctor Who, Mad Max: Fury Road

Landsailor by [personal profile] skygiants (Legend of Korra, Jinora)
A really beautiful overview of Jinora's arc and all the themes therein.

Breathe Me by [personal profile] butterfly (Sense8, ensemble)
Ahhhh my heart. I love this cluster so muuch, beloved darlings.

Survivor by [personal profile] odessie (Doctor Who, multi era)
This is the BEST. It is what my heart is made of. Companions having wonderful post-Doctor lives and being friends and being amazing. It's beautifully structured, every time a new character was introduced I shrieked a little bit.

Na Na Na by [personal profile] violace (Mad Max: Fury Road)
THIS IS SO AWESOME. Inspired song choice and a fantastic whirlwind ride through this film. I have watched it many times and I love it.

---

Today we got sent the draft script for our ceremony from the registrar, and it's my hen night this weekend, and our flat is covered in RSVP cards and robots and the constituent parts of centrepieces, all of which leads me to conclude that time has gone past inordinately quickly and I am in fact marrying [personal profile] happydork in two and a bit weeks.

Which is tremendously exciting, and also a little bit surreal. But then I sneak a peek at our wedding rings, or remember awesome little things we have planned for the day, and actually it's all totally great.

Also, this is late notice, but we haven't actually started putting together the decorations yet, and if you would like to contribute, you can decorate one of these awesome robots and send it to us, digitally or physically. If we have it on Friday 11th it'll go up in the hall, and if we have it this weekend it might also be included in something else we're planning. <3
Wheeeee, another vid in the Aims vidding project has gone up!

[personal profile] purplefringe has made Never Look Away (Doctor Who, Eleven & Clara)

It's so perfect and beautiful. I think [personal profile] purplefringe has really outdone herself on this one - there's so much packed into every moment, lots of layers of narrative and symbolism and also their precious faces. It gives me MANY FEELINGS and it's really really pretty too.

I'm so so pleased with all of the Aims - they're all brilliant, and have a lovely range of sources, themes, and interpretations of the songs, plus a lot of focus on women. Just two more to go now! We're hoping to be able to show all of them as a Vidukon vid show which would be pretty awesome.

Speaking of - Vidukon! Is a thing, happening in Cardiff at the end of June, and if you like watching and talking about vids and can get yourself there you should definitely come. Create an account on the website to register, and even if you don't want to register just yet you can join in discussion about possible panel topics etc.

We'll also be accepting premieres whether you're attending the con or not (deadline: April 27th).

In additional con news, I'm going to doing some vidding content on the fanworks track at Nine Worlds this year, and am also chatting to some of the people at Worldcon about doing something similar with them as they're trying to get fanworks involved. So if you're doing the London con circuit this summer, come and watch some vids with me!
+ Yesterday I had the great pleasure of going to the wedding of [personal profile] carawj and [personal profile] cosmic_llin. It was completely wonderful - the brides were radiant, everyone had a fantastic time, and I'm so thrilled for both of them. <3

+ In the hope that this will somehow kick my writing ability back into gear (I used to be able to do this I swear! I don't know what happened! *sob*) I have signed up for [community profile] fan_byproducts, a Welcome to Night Vale fic + art exchange. I believe sign ups close today, so get on that if you would like to join in!

+ I really, really enjoy Welcome to Night Vale, by the by. And Jasika Nicole's guest turn on the most recent episode was everything I've ever wanted. *_*

+ There are so many wonderful things being posted up at [community profile] eleventyfest. I haven't had a chance to sit down properly with them all yet, but I am a very happy mod. In particular, I got a story especially for me and I LOVE IT:

Ordinary Human Days (4035 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Doctor Who, Doctor Who (2005), Doctor Who & Related Fandoms
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Eleventh Doctor/Amy Pond/Rory Williams, Eleventh Doctor/River Song
Characters: Eleventh Doctor, Amy Pond, Rory Williams, River Song
Additional Tags: Recreational Drug Use
Summary:

This time with Amy and Rory was going to be different.

POOOOOONDS! Set during The Power of Three, this is suitably ridiculous and delightful OT3 wonderfulness with bonus River, and oh gosh it is everything I want for these idiots. <3
We have started posting over at [community profile] eleventyfest! Follow along for two weeks of Doctor Who Eleven-era fanworks. We have started with:

VID: You're No God (Eleven/River) and FIC: Of Time And Space (Amy/Rory, Eleven/River, Eleven/Amy).

\o/ Running fests is the best way to get a bunch of people to make stuff relevant to your interests.

+

Also, hi internet! August was busy but I'm back now! I only just realised how little I posted over the last month, but with the nights drawing in I suspect I'll be back to old habits soon.
It's my birthday! Thank you to everyone for your birthday wishes. Also I got presents!

VID: People Get Ready by [personal profile] kaydeefalls (Doctor Who, Amy/Rory, Eleven, River)

Reader, I cried. It's so beautiful and such a wonderful take on the Ponds' whole arc and I can't be coherent about it yet. I just love it a lot.

FIC: Could Have Danced All Night by [personal profile] lovelythings (Doctor Who, Amy/Rory, Eleven/River)

Pond family outing, yayyyy! With banter and dressup and loveliness. <3333

PICSPAM: An Abundance of Morstans by [personal profile] happydork (Elementary)

Lots of different fancastings for different people who could play a Mary Morstan equivalent for Joan. I CHOOSE ALL OPTIONS OMG.

♥♥♥

(PS [personal profile] purplefringe made me an Elementary vid but it's not online yet. I WILL LET YOU KNOW WHEN IT IS BECAUSE IT'S BEAUTIFUL.)
Whee I love this time of year.

+ [community profile] fandom_stocking is live. I have presents!. There are stories and icons and art and picspams and good wishes, thank you all so much! <3

+ [community profile] 3_ships is also live! There are many stories in many fandoms.

And my story is WONDERFUL. \o/!

(I've got) Potential (Doctor Who RPF, Matt/Karen/Arthur)

SO GOOD. It's a long and completely delightful read, full of feelings and banter and a total lack of personal space and everything else I love about them. It makes great use of all kinds of details from all over the place, Confidential and interviews and Arthur's ridiculous twitter account. The character voices are really excellent, and it's by turns hilarious, sweet, and really hot.

I LOVE MY STORY. *squishes it*
Post a rec for at least three fanworks that you did not create.

Here are some things I've enjoyed recently!

Fic:

Five times the Paternoster gang had to call the Doctor (Doctor Who, Jenny/Vastra, Strax, Eleven, spoilers for 7x06) by [livejournal.com profile] gnimaerd
Five incidents which required the Doctor’s intervention; in which the Doctor is somebody’s best man and sort of a nanny, Jenny discovers Harry Potter and Strax does not like when his mothers comrades are fighting.

Completely adorable, with some lovely guest appearances.

cup of kindness (Avengers, Bruce/Tony/Pepper) by [personal profile] thingswithwings

It's NYE, and superhero adorableness ensues. I love the supporting cast of characters here, and it's all extremely heartwarming, with lots of lovely character moments including Tony stressing out by actually caring about whether people have a good time or not. *_*

#TeamJanet (Avengers, Darcy/Janet) by [personal profile] aria

... it's NYE, and superhero adorableness ensues again! :D :D :D I confess to knowing next to nothing about Janet van Dyne, but reading this story reallyyyy makes me want to fix that, because she seems wonderful. Darcy's POV here is hilarious and very sweet.

Vids:

One Mississippi (Doctor Who, ensemble) by [personal profile] kaydeefalls

I love DW vids that span the entirety of the New Who era, and this does a particularly wonderful job of pulling all kinds of visual and emotional parallels between the different parts of this one great story.

Red Football (Merlin, Gwen, Morgana, others) by [personal profile] sophinisba

In which the women of Merlin fight back against their narratives. Very satisfying!

such_heights: amy and rory looking at a pile of post (who: amy [tardis looking down])
I haven't recced anything since *June* what is going on. A selection of Doctor Who things I've enjoyed lately:

VID: The Future by [livejournal.com profile] bradcpu (Daleks, Oswin)
I'm useless but not for long.

In what is an incredibly slick and thoughtful vid, perhaps the biggest achievement of this vid, to me, is that it makes 'Daleks in Manhattan/Evolution of the Daleks' look like good episodes. Outstanding.

Familiar Grounds by [personal profile] pocketmouse (Amy/Eleven/Rory)
Someone has been giving the people on Geros IV a leg up into the Iron Age. The answer seems simple at first, but quickly turns complicated, between raiding tribes, a greedy interstellar regime, and the Doctor's plans never quite going according to ...plan.

[personal profile] pocketmouse's plotty OT3 fics always delight me, and this one is gorgeous - full of fun tropes like huddling for warmth and accidental marriage, and lots of lovely character interaction.

Phase by [livejournal.com profile] parachute_silks
"The first boy I fancied was called Rory. Actually, she was called Nina. I was going through a Phase."

If, like me, the above line grated in the episode, then you'll appreciate this fic, which takes the concept and runs with it in an awesome queer sci-fi backstory way.

A Disordered World by [archiveofourown.org profile] strix_alba (Doctor Who/Sherlock, Molly & Martha)
Nearly a year after the invasion, Molly wakes up, not to the shrieking of the Toclafane, but to a rap on the front door.

I don't read much Sherlock fic, but Molly in the Year That Never Was? Sign me up! It's a great concept and the story completely delivers - Molly's characterisation is wonderful, and I loved seeing Martha through her eyes. And the story may be gen, but I definitely ship it.

And the last one is an excellent story by [personal profile] lizbee that is spoilery for the finale so I'll put it behind a cut.

+ Thank you very much to everyone for your lovely comments at [personal profile] ephemere's love meme, which looks to still be going strong! <333

+ There are now six trope fest fills - a Luther/Torchwood crossover, two Homestuck fics, and one each in Avengers, Misfits and Harry Potter.

+ I haven't had a much of a chance to dive into the rarewomen stories yet, but I love the story I received! Oh, Sarah Connor, my heart beats for you.

Stories We Tell Ourselves (3084 words) by faviconBeatrice_Otter
Fandom: Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
Rating: General Audiences

Characters: Sarah Connor, Catherine Weaver, John Henry
Summary: Weaver returns post-born to run, with an offer for Sarah.

I also really enjoyed this story recently (set in the DW 6x13 'verse):

Between Two Points (3910 words) by faviconxenoamorist
Fandom: Doctor Who (2005)
Rating: Explicit
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Amy Pond/Rory Williams
Characters: Amy Pond, Rory Williams
Summary: She’s always been particularly fond of Captain Williams, although she can never articulate why. She just knows that he feels familiar and right.
eeee I love this one SO MUCH.

Read My Mind by [personal profile] purplefringe (Doctor Who, Amy/Rory)
'cause I don't shine if you don't shine

If you like the Ponds, I think you'll really love this. It's fantastically well put together with great sense of motion, musicality, clever lyric matches and lots of awesome parallels and montages like 'strange weaponry!' and 'flaily hands!'. I also love it because although it's from Rory's POV, which it absolutely delivers on, it's very much about both of them and the way that work together so well as a team and save each other all the time and are adorable but also really kickass, both separately and together.

I have watched it approx. eleventy million times since I saw the first draft, and I shall watch the finished version a lot more, I am sure. <3333
Some Doctor Who recs:

Vid: What I Like About You by [livejournal.com profile] humansrsuperior (Doctor Who RPF, Matt, Karen & Arthur)
MADE. OF. SQUEE. omg stupid faces and bouncy behind the scenes fun and eeeee.

Fic:

when I come to terms with this by [personal profile] wishfulaces (Amy/Rory, River, Eleven)
It’s a sort of fairy tale, if you squint right.

This breaks my heart a little then puts it back together in the best way.

Time and Company by anonymous at [community profile] 3_ships (Amy/Eleven/Rory)
A simple night out is never simple.

*_* This story brings me great joy.

that ring, sitting under the bench in the hall by [livejournal.com profile] bendingwind (Amy/Rory)
Rory proposes to Amy three times.

This is SUPER CUTE and probably pretty much how it went.

The Many-Worlds of Amelia Pond by [livejournal.com profile] snowdarkred (Amy gen)
There’s only so much about Amelia Pond that can be explained by a tear in time and space.

Thoughtful, lovely character study about how Amy's life doesn't make any sense and that's okay. <3

Playing Gods by [livejournal.com profile] miscellanny (Doctor Who/Good Omens crossover, Eleven & The Them)
He smiled one of his very best smiles at the girl - Pepper, that was it. He found himself liking her in spite of her scowl; there was something vaguely Pondish in the way she folded her arms.

This is a really lovely scene set after 6x12 with excellent merging of the two canons.

Art: little versions of the girl who waited, the boy who waited, and their raggedy doctor. by [tumblr.com profile] lisavillella

THIS COULD NOT BE ANY CUTER. AHHHH.

part two: picspam of joy, forthcoming.
ahhhh, I love stuff like this so much. 48 years, 11 incarnations, one time traveller. The audio edit is amazing, and the vidder has pulled together so much footage and made it feel really cohesive and wonderful.

\SHOW/

+ My Pottermore email arrived at last, though given how overloaded the servers are, I have not been able to do much in there yet. My username is StarKnight142 - feel free to add me, but do let me know who you are so I can nickname accordingly. They sorted me into Hufflepuff - I figured it was going to be that or Ravenclaw, and I am very okay with this.

+ The BBC have cancelled Doctor Who Confidential for budget reasons. :( Guardian article, official announcement on the BBC (a little spoilery for the next episode). This Saturday's will be the last.

+ Inspector Spacetime: a case study in how fandom is The Best. I haven't actually watched last week's Community yet, but apparently it included a throwaway gag featuring a spoof of Doctor Who called Inspector Spacetime. Fandom has run with it like you would not believe. TV Tropes has a tropes page as well as a fanon section and list of episodes. My particular favourite is 'The Earth Goes "OM NOM NOM"' and 'The Om Nom Nomed Strike Back'.

Also:

The Inspector and his Associates having to cram themselves inside the DARSIT was intended to capitalize on the fad of Phonebooth Stuffing, which had just arrived the UK in 1959. Now the ridiculousness is lampshaded with the characters' catch phrase "I thought it would be bigger on the inside!"

+ There's an Inspection Spacetime Confessions tumblr too. Obviously.

+ Go read all of [personal profile] pocketmouse's recent Doctor Who fic for [community profile] kink_bingo because it's great. Here's a handy list. All Amy/Rory or Amy/Rory/Eleven, all brilliant. Three Turtledoves is possibly my favourite, partially because it's long and glorious.

eeeee I just read my [community profile] femslash11 story by [personal profile] lilacsigil and IT'S SO AWESOME OMG. I am beyond delighted she picked these pairings to write and did them so well! *_*

Don't Know Where, Don't Know When (4287 words) by faviconlilacsigil
Fandom: Harry Potter - J. K. Rowling, Doctor Who (2005)
Rating: Mature
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Minerva McGonagall/River Song, Martha Jones/Nymphadora Tonks

You Told The Drunks I Knew Karate by [personal profile] settiai (Doctor Who, Amy/Rory)

Ponds! Rory! This is silly and witty and makes wonderful use of all of Rory's flailiness but it is also a lovely, lovely look at how Rory loves Amy more than anything ever and it makes me smile a lot. <3333
Ahahaha, [livejournal.com profile] lunchy_munchy, [livejournal.com profile] fishpatrol, [livejournal.com profile] paraka and [livejournal.com profile] cantarina1 have done an awesome multi-voice podfic for my Rose&Martha&Donna Journey's End AU In An Interstellar Burst as part of a femslash podfic project.
