vidding end of year meme
It is that time of year again! Let's start off with some vid chatter, last seen at
obsessive24's journal.
January
Of Monsters And Heroes And Men (Gladiator)
February
Pull Shapes (Doctor Who)
March
Made Up Love Song #43 (Firefly)
May
Is It Really So Strange? (Merlin)
June
Call Me Uprising (Doctor Who)
July
Lullaby For A Stormy Night (Doctor Who)
August
Take Me Home (multifandom)
September
Backseat (Merlin)
October
Fresh Feeling (Merlin)
December
Trouble (Legend of the Seeker)
Temple of Love (Battlestar Galactica)
My favorite video this year (of my own):
Call Me Uprising. I love love love vids using mashups and remixes etc, and Blondie and Muse are two great tastes that taste great together! Plus, rewatching that vid reminds me of all the fun of watching S5 as it was airing and not knowing what was going to happen. Also Amy Pond and her face. <3
My least favourite video this year:
I had fun with the vidlet format this year, but I feel I could have done more with Fresh Feeling than I did. Gwen needs more vids! Maybe next year.
Most successful video:
I was bowled over by the response to Lullaby For A Stormy Night, I was not expecting that at all! The fact that Vienna Teng + Amelia Pond is relevant to that many people's interests really warms my heart. :D
Video most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
Temple of Love didn't get much of a response, but then I posted at a busy time of year for a lot of fandom. My recipient liked it, which is the only thing that really matters! I'm still pleased with some of the things I managed to pull off in that which were new to me, even if no one else watched it. *g* (I learned some stuff about overlays, it was exciting!)
Most fun video:
Take Me Home, absolutely. Lots of my favourite ladies being awesome and slashy together! :D I even enjoyed the clipping for that one, which is a rarity for me. I also really enjoyed making Call Me Uprising and Trouble.
Video with single sexiest moment:
The section starting at 1.30 in Take Me Home, with Willow/Tara, Kaylee/Inara and Gwen/Morgana and candles, writing on the body, sponge bathing and magical shenanigans etc. Um, yes. Indeed.
Biggest vid fail:
I SUCK AT TITLES, YOU GUYS. I always make them at the last minute and they are frequently sort of awful. Ugh, I can never really be bothered and pick horrible fonts that don't go together but whatever, it's fine. I like the titles for Pull Shapes and Take Me Home, though.
Hardest video to make:
Temple of Love was pretty challenging because OMG SO MUCH SOURCE. I'm not all that familiar with every single BSG episode so it was a case of a lot of skimming through and hoping something shiny would crop up. It was a good learning experience, though, and helped me focus on the kinetic and aesthetic qualities of the vid rather than getting too tied up in the original context of the shots, which is a problem I often have with sources I know like the back of my hand, like Merlin or Doctor Who.
Most unintentionally telling video:
Backseat is pretty much 'Feelings About Merlin: I Have Them'.
Things I learned:
+ Subtitles! They are easy and pretty quick and also useful for people, so it's been great to be able to incorporate that into my vidposts.
+ I learned a couple of new tricks in Final Cut, but mostly I know I continue to vastly underuse the program's potential.
+ I think I got a little better at motion and flow, and how to use those things to create more emotional narratives.
+ I also started grabbling with .vob and .mkv files for the first time. DIE IN A FIRE, MKVS, UGH. At least I actually have the Who S5 DVDs now so I can get rid of the mkvs for that series.
For 2011:
I would like to work on a couple of the more serious/difficult projects I've had on the backburner for ages in amidst getting distracted by squee and pretty things, which is what spawns most vids that I make. Hopefully I will make some vids to send off to cons. I'd like to add Sarah Connor Chronicles, Fringe and Avatar TLA to my repertoire as well.
