Festivid: Of Monsters and Heroes and Men (Gladiator)
festivid reveals are live you guys! omg. I got like, one guess right, another few spectacularly wrong, and some where I can't believe I didn't get it.
So, the Gladiator one was mine!

bisclaveret. The song came from
giandujakiss, who also provided awesome beta along with
isagel and
avendya. Huge thanks to all three for making it a much better vid!

Seriously,
giandujakiss, I owe her one. She threw this song out into the wild at just the right time, and it was exactly what I didn't know I was looking for.
I hadn't seen the film in years, which made this quite the departure from my normal vids where I know the source inside out. However, it was a delight to rediscover this film - it's beautifully shot, for one, which meant a lot of the vid more or less edited itself. I also found it incredibly heartwrenching to make - the end sequence pretty much consisted of me making some clips, going away to cry for a bit, putting them on the timeline, crying some more, repeat. IT'S REALLY SAD OKAY. ;_;
For what it's worth, I think there were a couple of indicators that might have marked this vid as mine if you'd been looking for them. For one, lots of hand shots! For another, I think the vid is reasonably unsubtle in its Maximus/Juba ways (though, obviously, the author/vidder is dead, read however you like). Look, I was helpless, there is FOREHEAD TOUCHING and SMILES OF CAMARADERIE and omg why isn't there any in the Yuletide archives. Make it happen, people!
The whole
festivids experience was a ludicrous amount of fun, with the squee and speculation and chats and general joy. I'll be back next year for sure! Thanks to everyone who vidded, beta'd, cheerled, recced, admined and commented (I think I just made a bunch of new words!), you guys are awesome.
