VVC Queer Vidshow: call for suggestions!

So, the VVC organisers have had a moment of madness and given me a vidshow to run. I am going to need your help!

The vidshow is We're Here, We're Queer, and it's pretty much what it says on the tin: vids that are focused on canonically LGBT/queer/trans* characters. Opened up to gen, het, slash, poly, angst, drama, comedy, in fandoms big and small, hopefully there will be a bit of everything!

Friends, lend me your recs in any and all fandoms - Saving Face, Transamerica, Skins, Queer as Folk, Torchwood, The L Word, Grey's Anatomy, Buffy, Ugly Betty, RPF fandoms, anywhere there are queer people! Extra bonus points for people who can point me towards vids focused on queer non-white characters and on genderqueer/trans* characters.

Please feel encouraged to nominate your own vids, and also, should you happen to feel inspired by the theme and think you could make a vid by June 1st, having a premiere or two would be pretty awesome. Official-ish forms will be up on the VVC website shortly, but in the meantime, rec me things! :D

Also, I would seriously love to hear any and all advice on VJing and vidshows at cons from both VJers and audiences, given that I have never attended one much less organised one before!

I so used to have a list but sadly it is lost in some notebook somewhere so this is off the top of my head. For Ugly Betty, obsessive24 has a perfect vid for this for Marc, Steady As She Goes. Possibly there's a vid out there on youtube or a comm for Alexis if you're looking for vids featuring trans characters. kiki_miserychic has a House vid about Remy called Skinny Love that's great. For Queer as Folk, possibly f1renze's Given To Fly or sisabet's Epic could work for Justin or bea_anonymous has a good ensemble piece, We All Want to be Loved (or something like it) or possibly f1renze's Affirmation. For Adam Lambert, there's astolat's Beautiful Dirty Rich although there's a bunch of great ones on youtube I'm sure. Oh and f1renze has a great Angels in America vid, Prayer for the Dying. butterfly has two vids that would be great, Oh My God and The Tower that are both from movies. laurashapiro made Queen Bitch which would also work perfectly.

And I'm totally forgetting a bunch but that'll take me some more looking around. And man, looking around at fandoms that feature queer characters, there are so many that need vids.

I have no idea about vid for these two fandoms but:

Stargate: Universe - Camille Wray is played by Ming-Na and her character is canonically lesbian. They had at least one episode that focused on her relationship with her partner (and it was a positive one).

I am wary of them, so don't have specific recs, but you might check out vids about Admiral Cain from BSG; she's got a huge fandom all her own. And Gaeta, too - there's a great vid about Gaeta's pining for Baltar and his queerness generally, but I didn't seem to save it and can't remember who did it. I AM NOT HELPFUL. I'll look for this, see if I can find it. BSG vids might have a darker tone than what you're looking for (especially given what happens to, y'know, all the queer characters) but maybe that's a good thing, too.

Can I rec your Imagine Me & You vid? :)

Okay, having just gone through my list of vids I have saved on this computer, I am extremely depressed about how many shows there are where people MIGHT AS WELL BE gay, but, of course, aren't. ARGH. Actually, what you really need is this vid that a friend of mine has been making - maybe I'll email her and see how she's coming with it, because it would be perfect for you.

There's a couple of Cain & Gina vids I'm considering, but I am a bit undecided on that front! If I can find that Gaeta vid I may go for that instead for my BSG quota. In general, actually, it is much easier to find vids that are angsty and depressing than vids that are happy and joyful. Sigh!

Also, I wish that someone else would make an Imagine Me & You vid so that I could play it! *attempts to send subliminal messages to the hive mind*

This is such a great idea!

Calling the Moon is a phenomenal Willow/Tara vid that traces their relationship in its entirety.

There's a significant following and a lot of vids on YouTube for the film I Can't Think Straight, both of whose leads are non-white (Leyla is British-Indian, and Tala is Arab, though they are both played by actresses of South Asian descent).

And there's a lot of L Word vids focusing on Bette Porter, but I don't have recs just yet. Hmm...

I was so excited to see that you're doing this vid show! Yay!

Things I would like to see but have no recs for include something about Willow and Tara from BtVS, something about Original Cindy from Dark Angel (lesbian of colour!) and something about the gay guys (names currently fail me) from Six Feet Under (character of colour!).

I went through my vids folder, and the only thing I have that no one's mentioned yet is rhiannonhero's Dancing Lessons, which is a vid about the gay couple from the German soap opera Verbotene Liebe. Not the greatest vid ever made in terms of narrative structure and such, but worth checking out simply because it's so bubblingly joyful, and gay characters on tv don't generally get to just be happy and silly and in love. It puts a huge smile on my face, anyway, and I've never watched the show.

I'm making a vid about the bisexual character Lisbeth Salander from the recent Swedish Millenium trilogy movies which is probably headed for VVC in some form, but it's less focused on her sexuality and more focused on her fighting back against abusive men, and I'm thinking it may be a better fit for the "I Blame the Patriarchy" vid show, if they want it there. But if you would like it, you can absolutely have it.

I don't watch very many vids, but since you asked, I fell into YouTube looking for vids of two of my favourite couples right now.

So first, there's Vivian/Aster from this web series, Anyone But Me, which I've vaguely mentioned before in a couple places, I think, but I keep meaning to rec it officially to the entire world -- but I really want to make a huge post about it, and when I remember that, I don't have the time, so... yeah. Anyway. Of the ones I've seen, I'm completely in love with Alright. I also love Falling (Is Like This), I Love You, Don't Let Me Go, Innocence, and What About Us.

Second, while their story wasn't... tied together as much as I would've liked, Gretchen/Claire of Heroes are definitely one of my favourite tv couples of this year, so here's some vids about them that I like: Use Somebody, Can't Stand It, ES Posthumus, Long Shot, Secret, I Will Possess Your Heart, and I'd Come for You.
