+ Thank you hugely to everyone who bid on my offers at
help_haiti, especially to auction winners
melandry,
lindenharp and
wendymr, who are donating an incredible and somewhat mind-boggling $445 between them. (I feel under no pressure whatsoever ... *g*)

halfamoon is starting up again on the first of February! Yaaay! It's a two-week multi-fandom celebration of female characters and it's awesome - it's the comm I made Glorious for last year. Sadly, I am already over-committed and will not be participating myself except in squee. ♥ female characters ftw! ♥
+ In celebration of the above,
heathershaped was MEAN and asked her flist to name their top five female characters of all time. I inflict this punishment upon you all also! I flailed and ultimately went with five off the top of my head - I'm sorry, Kara and Teyla and Guinevere and Toshiko and Donna and Uhura and everyone else! :(
MARTHA JONES

You know what? I am good.
JADZIA DAX

Dax: I had no idea.
Sisko: What?
Dax: He's so much more handsome in person. Those eyes!
Sisko: Kirk had quite the reputation as a ladies' man.
Dax: Not him. Spock.
KAYLEE FRYE

Figures - first time in the Core, and what do I get to do? Dig through trash. Why couldn't he send me shopping at the Tri-plex, or... Ooh! Synchronizers!
LAURA ROSLIN

I'm not suggesting anything, Doctor. If I want to throw a baby out an airlock, I'll do it.
SARAH CONNOR

The future's not set. There's no fate but what we make for ourselves.

I'm too lazy for picspam, which would be a requisite of doing the post myself, but high-ranking five (yeah, I can't choose 'top' either):
-B'Elanna Torres (sorry Janeway)
-Tosh! ToshToshToshToshTosh
-DANA SCULLY OMG
-Margaret Houlihan. Because I said so.

My breastsShit, wait, you said fictional. Um, Elizabeth Burke!Yeah, there's definitely more, including some from anime, and books, but these were the big ones in my brain. More of what I've been watching recently.

I approve your choices! Oh, B'Elanna - I don't think I could choose between her, Janeway and Seven, though, they are all dear to my heart.

I didn't get into Seven too much -- too much fanservice plus frank emotionalism, she tended to hit my embarrassment squick something awful. And Janeway was pretty damn awesome, but I like B'Elanna's personality and overall arc better, she had less self-imposed limitations.

B'Elanna's arc was pretty awesome, and embarrassingly enough I was a hopelessly fangirly B'Elanna/Tom shipper, haha. I grew up on DS9 and Voyager, so I didn't really engage critical faculties at the time. I am so easy for robot chicks, however, and looking back, I'm pretty sure Seven had quite the impact at a formative age. *g*

I did not know this about you either! Plus, the most badass line in the whole show! Oh Laura, I miss you.

I'm leaving you Martha because I can only carry two at a time.

But I'm glad they led to this spam. *g*
