2014
This was a great year for me.
This year I started a new job that - happily! - is much more demanding than my previous one. I work with a group of people I like very much, and for the first time ever have colleagues who I would also consider friends. It's sometimes ridiculous and frustrating and harder work than it needs to be, because that's life in the charity sector for you, but we're doing something good and I feel useful.
A lot of my bandwidth went into work this year. Which I don't regret at all for the most part, but did limit my ability to do more of the things that I'd wanted to do in the reading and creating departments. I never read as much as I'd like, and lately I never same to write as much as I'd like either. Maybe 2015 is the year I figure out how to get back in the habit?? You never know. Meanwhile, I am content, and particularly delighted that I finally finished and posted the bloody Ponds novella I've been working on for longer than is at all necessary. I am so stupidly grateful for every hit, kudos and comment on that story, it means a lot.
Fannishly, my new discoveries this year included Brooklyn Nine Nine, October Daye, Ancillary Sword/Justice and How To Get Away With Murder. My existing fandoms put out quality stuff - I loved Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy, Orange is the New Black s2 was amazing, and Parks and Rec continues to be made of sunshine and happiness. I thought Doctor Who s8 was excellent, although I continue to be a little sad that it doesn't quite ignite the same create-all-the-fanworks impulse in me at the moment. Inevitable with this show, I'm sure it'll come back around. In the meantime I shall reblog lots of tumblr gifsets of Clara's perfect face. Then there was the Korra finale and everyone exploded with glee and it was amazing. I listened to Taylor Swift's 1989 a lot and loved seeing Belle and Pride at the cinema.
I turned 25 this summer, and celebrated on Hampstead Heath, which was lovely until all of us with hayfever started slowly dying of pollen. I also marked the occasion with my first tattoo, a <3 on my left arm. I still love it, and it feels like it's been there much longer than six months.
happydork came and joined Awesome Housemate K and
purplefringe in Purple Heights Manor, which is wonderful and means that most of my favourite people were in the same place this year and my travel expenses plummeted accordingly (so long, Oxford Tube!). I did go on two trips with
happydork this year - Dublin in February for a weekend, and Spain in September for a week of late sunshine. Both involved doing very little and were therefore delightful. Then last month we adopted Cosmo the cat, and he's adorable and soft and I love him.
Con season is now developing a sense of habit - Vidukon in early summer, Nine Worlds in August. This year also threw in a day of Worldcon, which was huge and overwhelming and I'm glad I did it. I feel a bit ridiculous becoming a person who people actively approach to come talk at their stuff about vidding, but I love doing it so I'll roll with it.
Of course, Nine Worlds this year will always be a special one for me, as that's when I proposed to
happydork. That's proving to be a pretty good decision on my part. I don't think that getting engaged fundamentally changed our relationship in many ways, because we were talking about the long term from early on, but the response from friends and family has been wonderful and a little overwhelming. It's prompted me to make more of an effort with my extended family, and plan for a future that has become more real and defined.
My health has been middling, as it always is these days really. But I tick along, and next week I start with a new therapist who I hope might be able to help, particularly with the whole problem where chronic mental illness makes it difficult to deal with chronic physical illness as well as you could. Mostly I'm in good shape, though, and glad to be able to do most of the things that I want to do.
2015 should hopefully be a big year. As well as the wedding, we're also hoping to get our own place - which pains me, because I love this flat, but our collective stuff is beginning to burst the seams a little. Time for new adventures.
Happy New Year, everyone. <3

Pretty much the first impression I had of you from the first Nine Worlds was "is really impressively good at talking about vidding", so this doesn't surprise me at all.
