Korra
The Korra showrunners have both posted about the finale now and it's amazing and beautiful.
Michael Dante DiMartino's post and Bryan Konietzko's post.

There is a thing that I have wished for a long time, in terms of on-screen queer relationships. And that's a story where you have two characters who are their own people first, neither introduced as the other's love interest, maybe neither initially introduced as queer even, who gradually end up being in a relationship as organically as het couples are written in these things.
I wasn't expecting Korra to be the one to do the thing, but I am so so pleased. What a perfect and beautiful ending.

Obviously they were working under some constraints, and obviously those constraints are bullshit, but within the framework they had, I'm so impressed by 1) their willingness to challenge them, 2) their ability to so clearly communicate what they meant within that limiting framework - their ability to create a moment that didn't feel it was denying anything, even under restrictions that were almost certainly about the moment being deniable, and 3) that they came out and made clear, undeniable statements about their intent. I'm semi-regularly of the opinion that text > authorial intent. But not in circumstances like these. (Plus, ffs, the whole point is that the text is also extremely clear).
I also really agree with you that it's a watershed moment when a same-sex romance develops and gets serious attention and canonicity just because "they happened to have chemistry," the way het couples get to on shows all the time. That's a huge thing. I can think of one or two other instances that probably count but not as the big romantic finale. Not the main character. Not on kids TV.
The comics that follow Avatar: the Last Airbender aren't written by Bryke but they are approved by them and they're really good. I'm really, really, really hoping we get something similar for Korra...
Anyway, it's fucking wonderful, right? I'm so happy they did it, and I'm so happy you love it.
