it was the best (a call for happy things)
The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don't always soften the bad things, but vice-versa, the bad things don't necessarily spoil the good things and make them unimportant.

Okay, no, enough. I refuse to continue feeling so sad that the Ponds' time on Doctor Who has come to an end without also looking back and remembering what made their era so great.
I just went through the fanart tag on my DW tumblr, which is full of adorable things by talented people. This evening, I think I shall indulge in a few of my favourite vids, like Read My Mind, What I Like About You, You Told The Drunks I Knew Karate, Stray Italian Greyhound and Stuck To You. Maybe I'll reread some favourite stories.
Fandom means that no story ever has to end, that's the beauty of it. And this one's not over yet, not for me.
So, if you're missing Amy and Rory's era too, come on in. Tell me about something you love, in the fandom or the canon. Something that makes you smile.
And if you like, tell me about what they're doing now.
For my part, I like to think about Rory quietly changing the nursing world, and Amy writing amazing science fiction novels about girls who do impossible things, and the two of them fostering a bunch of kids and raising money for orphanages.
I like to think about River coming round for tea, because of course she'll find a way. And maybe sometimes she brings a set of very confused grandparents with her. And maybe, once or twice, a older, wiser Doctor, who may know that you can't always rewrite time, but you can work around it a little.
I like to think about all the friends they'll have, old and new - the Doctor's friends are scattered all through time, after all. Maybe Amy will mentor a young Sarah Jane. Maybe they'll run into Canton Delaware again. And for those of an Avengers crossover persuasion, I really like to imagine them hanging out with Peggy and Steve. I think they'd have a lot to talk about.
If you just need a hug, I have plenty of those to give out as well. ♥ ♥ ♥

I'll be a story in your head. But that's okay, we're all stories in the end. Just make it a good one, eh? Because it was, you know. It was the best.

Amy writing science fiction, OMG YES.
I have read so many lovely things lately, and ever. I keep most of them in either my LJ memories or my Teaspoon favorites or my AO3 bookmarks if you'd like to peek. (I have the same name on the AO3, and on the Teaspoon I am Lady Mercury.) And last night I ran across this post-finale fic which was absolutely everything I had wanted for Amy and Rory, and you should go read it right now, if you have time. :D
*hugs*
And Amy and Rory really do feel like a story to me now, all the best kinds of stories that I loved as a kid and as a teenager, the kinds I fell inside. That are sort of far away now, but also timeless, and always waiting for me if I ever want to go back.

For Melody, Peggy, Bucky, and Steve, our knights in shining armor, and to Phil, who still believes in heroes.
Foreword
It is a truth universally acknowledged that any Time Lord wandering the universe is in need of a good companion: otherwise he goes all Mister Grumpyface, and that's no fun for anyone.
Oh, come on. You didn't think you'd heard the last of the Ponds, did you?
You may have turned the page on us, but our story is far from over. And this is one book, Raggedy Man, where you absolutely have to read the last page.

But if they are back that far in time, I think they help found UNIT. And one day, maybe they're retired, maybe they're just busy, they hear some rumors about the newest scientific advisor. And they look at each other, and they're old and grey like the Doctor never wanted to see, and so they go, knowing he won't ever recognize him. And he's older too, but younger, and Amy wants to hug him but knows how psychic aliens work, so instead she settles for hugging Rory and keeping a weather eye on the advisor's assistant, and supplying them all with plenty of explosives.
Rory warns her about the daffodils, though.

And I want all the stories in the world about their UNIT adventures and crossovers with various Classic Who companions, yes.

That hit me where I live. Seriously.
As for recs, Lullaby for a Stormy Night will always define the Amy era to me.

Yes please to Amy mentoring a wee Sarah Jane. And the Ponds double-dating with Steve and Peggy is positively delightful! Of course River visits them. And looks after the Doctor in between...I worry about him!

He really will be okay. His hearts will mend, he'll take a lot of comfort in the fact they're living happily ever after, and he's going to meet someone new and wonderful soon.

Hilariously, I started writing this fic about an hour after watching the episode on Saturday night.

And/or, Jack is back in the TARDIS one day years later. He starts reminiscing about an affair with a lovely Scottish redhead and her husband back in 1930s New York. The Doctor goes "WHAT" and snaps a lever on the console clean off and refuses to ever tell him why. (But the TARDIS gives Jack the Ponds' old room that night because she always was fond of the pretty boys. He gets a few ideas about bunk beds.)
