Merlin 1x13

HOLY SHIT MERLIN IS BADASS AND SOMEWHAT TERRIFYING.

... I APPROVE. :D

Although, I will be very very upset if that really is the last we see of Nimueh - surely she's in the too pretty to die category? Too awesome and interesting to die, certainly.

Okay, Merlin's goodbye scenes with Arthur and his mum nearly made me cry, wtf. Well played, Colin Morgan, well played. And oh god, that scene with Arthur. I mean, every single one of Merlin's lines was pretty much "I love you to a ridiculous extent", wasn't it? Gah. *heartclutch* Written IN THE STARS. I don't even feel like I'm actively shipping them at this point, just enjoying the canon and whatnot. :D

Having said that... I got such a kick out of the Arthur and Gwen scenes, especially him calling her Guinevere. My screw it I'll just ship everyone philosophy kicks in once again! (OT4, y/y?)

One final and terribly important shipping note: Gwen and Morgana are girlfriends FOREVER AND EVER THE END. ♥ ♥ ♥

Morgana. Right. I am a big fan of prophetic Morgana, but um, not so much with the histrionic dragged away by guards shtick? What was that? Especially straight after last week. o.O I am confused as to why she didn't actually get anything to do, just appear randomly and pronounce doom.

I really, really want to write an episode coda -- you know how I love those -- but won't have time for a while, so you should all get on that for me.

And once more for good measure: HOLY SHIT MERLIN. He killed Nimueh with a bolt of lightning and blasted back dragon fire and skewered that awful CGI'd monster and omfg.

DID YOU SEE THE MORGANA/GWEN FACE STROKING?!?!
AND MERLIN: "DON'T BE A PRAT" (aka: i LOVE you, so am sacrificing myself)
OH. AND. "HE'S MY FRIEND" (aka: he's my lover)

This show makes my little shippy heart SING! :)

I'M SORRY I'M LEAVING!

Merlin's goodbye speech FTW! Absolutely my favourite part of the whole series.

It's like there's a big pink elephant in the room with "TELL HIM YOU LOVE HIM!!!" written all over it.

WHY AM I READING THIS WHEN I HAVEN'T SEEN THIS SHOW BUT PEOPLE KEEP TELLING ME TO ALSO I SUFFER FROM INABILITY NOT TO USE CAPSLOCK HALP

I totally thought of you with the Gwen/Morgana face stroking. THIS SHOW FEEDS ALL SHIPS. And yet I sort of melted at Arthur's Guinevere, oh man, the say he says her name! alskjf.

AND THEN MERLIN WAS SORT OF AWESOME AND PRETTY MUCH OBVIOUS ABOUT BEING IN LOVE WITH ARTHUR FOREVER AND EVER AMEN.

Eeee! Flail! :D

Although, I will be very very upset if that really is the last we see of Nimueh - surely she's in the too pretty to die category? Too awesome and interesting to die, certainly.

I agree completely – too awesome and far too pretty. Plus although I get the impression that she’s supposed to be pretty dead at this point, it’s a show with magic – so I reckon somebody will summon her back together.

Okay, Merlin's goodbye scenes with Arthur and his mum nearly made me cry, wtf. Well played, Colin Morgan, well played.

I cried for a ridiculous amount of time this episode and felt very silly about this whole thing. The scene that really got me though is when Gaius tells Merlin Arthur’s alright because from Merlin’s perspective that pretty much signs his death sentence but his face splits into this huge grin…

Having said that... I got such a kick out of the Arthur and Gwen scenes, especially him calling her Guinevere.

I die a little inside every time Arthur says Guinevere – the good way. This show provides so much ridiculous joy.

My screw it I'll just ship everyone philosophy kicks in once again! (OT4, y/y?)

Definitely Y. I’ve had to accept that at the moment I ship Merlin/Arthur, Merlin/Morgana, Arthur/Gwen, Gwen/Morgana, Morgana/Nimue, Merlin/Nimue, Merlin/Morgana/Nimue, Morgana/Uther, Uther/Nimue, Gwen/Lancelot, Arthur/Lancelot, Merlin/Lancelot and probably a dozen other ships I’ve forgotten. I’d even be tempted by some well written Uther/Arthur right now and incest usually squicks me to hell and back. And above all else it’s the OT4some. Clearly I really want this all to end in a massive orgy.

Although weirdly I’m not really feeling Arthur/Morgana.

Morgana. Right. I am a big fan of prophetic Morgana, but um, not so much with the histrionic dragged away by guards shtick? What was that? Especially straight after last week. o.O I am confused as to why she didn't actually get anything to do, just appear randomly and pronounce doom.

I completely agree with you on this – I found Morgana very odd in this episode – not at all what I’d been seeing for the last few weeks. The disappearance of kickass Morgana, subtle Morgana and manipulative Morgana was very strange.

Actually that was one of the major things that inspired all the fic plotting. Not sure if it’ll ever be written or posted as it’s pretty much a rewrite of the second half of the episode – which is odd because overall I really did love the episode, I think I was just working out how I’d take it from great to awesome for me. But as it still hits all the major plot points it would seem a little bit pointless from a readerly perspective, I guess.

P.S. Icon shortage sorted and I read the fic you recommended earlier and it was wonderful so thanks. Now off to read yours.

Hi hi! I have missed your comments! :D

:D And I have missed commenting - but I think life is going to settle down a bit soon - November and December have just been all kinds of crazy.

OH MY HEART. So in love! I cannot even. This episode is the one that really sold me on the idea that there's *already* something there, rather than just oodles of potential.

Watching the old episodes again (I caved and bought the first box set - my bad)- for me Merlin at least has been fairly blatantly in something with Arthur since the second episode and Arthur is all kinds of caring about him (in his sarcastic, grumpy way) since almost then as well - and definitely from the Mark of Nimueh/Poisoned Chalice episodes - I just don't think either of them has noticed yet. Silly boys. God knows what the show is going to do with all this UST though as prime time Saturday family viewing doesn't seem a likely place to explore Merlin and Arthur's gay gay love for each other (that's what fanfiction is for clearly).

Bwahaha - hey, this show is ridiculous, it could happen! And mmm, yes, I would really love to read something when Merlin and Morgana and Nimue all hook up and go magical darkside, that would be total win.

Yep it's definitely the evil magical stuff that is making this appealing to me (and not at all about all the pretty it brings) - also I just realised it is a little weird that the main magic users we see are all pale and dark-haired - weirder when you add in Mordred and Eve Myles character... at least Edwin was blond.

And I agree - I loved the episode but it didn't have everything in it that I'd hoped. I think if I take it and the previous episode as some kind of finale two-parter that will work better, otherwise it just feels like things got dropped for the sake of a happy ending. And I'm happy Gaius didn't die, I am! But it felt a strange place to end. Hence, apparently, my need to write fic at three in the morning. *facepalm*

Yep, I loved so many bits of the episode but it's not my favourite because it didn't quite feel whole and for me it didn't quite feel honest either - it didn't feel true for Morgana and some of the Merlin stuff felt off to me too (one of the reasons I loved your fic - as it dealt with the insane changes Merlin was going through, which I felt the show didn't have time to). For me my favourites have been the team together style episodes - hence The Moment of Truth being the number one for me right now and this was a much more Gaius/Merlin affair - and as much as I adore the two of them and adore them together I missed the others (weird really, as they did all have reasonable screen time - especially when you compare it to Torchwood which is supposed to be a team programme and occasionally has characters getting all of 2 minutes on screen).

But of course I'm not complain too much as anything that leads to you writing gorgeous fic at 3am in the morning is a wonderful thing.

I am going to endeavour to actually reply properly - in the proper place and everything. :D

I think one of my favourite things about the shows is not just that I love all the characters - but that they all clearly love each other so ridiculously much. I think they'd all pretty much lay down their lives for each other, particularly the main four - so when the show goes all teaminess ahoy I am a happy, happy little thing.

Actually the lack of teaminess was one of my big issues with the finale - they all seemed so powerless and ineffective (except Merlin of course - and dude, I rewatched the episode yesterday and Colin Morgan's acting completely blew me away and, you know, may have led to crying again - especially when he's telling Gaius all the things he's taught him).

Anyway back to the point - the lack of teamy good action may be why I have ended up embroiled in mini-epic re-write fic (4000 words so far). Oh dear. That and that I missed active, manipulative Morgana particularly.

Speaking of manipulative Morgana - I was watching the extras on the Merlin DVD (yes I caved and bought it) and there's a section where Katie McGrath is talking about Morgana (I think they showed it on TV ages ago) and she is saying how Morgana is the first lady of Camelot and feels absolutely secure in that position so is willing to use it and manipulate people to acheive what she wants - except Gwen, because she would never do that to her. EVER. (paraphrased)

I love them so much.

Also while I've been home and enjoying my much fastier internet connection I finally managed to watch The Book of Love and it is beautiful and gorgeous - you are a star.

Now I just have to decide what one episode of Merlin to download before I go back to Stratford and slow internet-ness. I've got 1-6 and I've already downloaded The Moment of Truth. I'm thinking maybe The Beginning of the End would be good - it's long enough ago that I don't remember it exactly but I do remember it being good and somewhat teamy. And it contains slash-dragon and fair oodles of Merlin/Morgana (one of my not-so-secret favourite ships).

Hmmm...

I cried all the way through the Gwen and Arthur scene, because she kept talking about the king he would be and all I could think of was the role she would play in his downfall. And, to be honest, this is the only take on Guinevere I've ever liked, which made it worse (though how awesome is it that Arthur is the only one to call her by her full name - it hits me every time).

And, yes, Gwen/Morgana absolutely and utterly.
