Torchwood 2x10: From Out Of The Rain

I liked the overall feel of this, the idea of the aliens was nice and the main two were suitably creepy and interesting. Hurray for old cinemas and travelling shows and bits of Cardiff history, and I love the idea that Jack was in the circus for a while. But I felt like the premise could have packed much more punch then it actually did - even saving the kid at the end left me a little cold. Ianto's investment in the case was almost completely unexplained, and um, where was the Jack/Ianto? Don't get me wrong, I do love the way that's all very understated a lot of the time, but this was a little extreme, by which I mean non-existent, very odd considering a lot of the episode was just the two of them.

Actually, this one really had a season one feel to it - I know that's been said about a few episodes this time round, but the alien concept was much more along the lines of Ghost Machine or Small Worlds rather than the more action-y stuff we've been used to, and the lack of character development is also a fit, heh.

So, as the next three episodes are all Chris Chibnall ones, do we think that means we're moving into a finale story arch from next week? Please don't spoil me if you actually know any plot details, but I'm curious as to whether it's a double or triple parter of some kind. Also, yay Chibnall, I am looking forward to those.

I have now watched it three times - and I no longer completely hate it. I still think the characterisation is majorly off and the ending is terrible.

But I'm liking more things about it. The set ups still interesting and some of the tone is lovely. They just needed to really get a grip on it and I just think that it was badly explained and over-complicated. I might actually write a post sometime today to try and work out how they could make it better. We'll see.
