Progress? What Progress? and some drabbles
Progress? What Progress? Or, where I mock the status of the things I'm currently working on.
dw_cross story:
Doctor: Oh how I like my TARDIS, la la la.
Crossover Fandom Characters: La la la, we are oblivious to all things Who.
Me: I am fairly sure this is not what they call crossing over.
TARDIS: Due in 10 days, get your act together!!
Me: *headdesk*
the what if Remus wasn't a werewolf? story
alt!Remus: I am as fit as a fiddle!
Me: For now. There will be angst, and betrayal, and woe to come.
alt!Remus: ... excuse me?
Me: But of course! It will show all sorts of Meaningful Things about how canon!Remus is the way he is!
alt!Remus: I do not like the sound of this!
Me: I don't care. Now come on, time for your first year at Hogwarts, hop to!
alt!Remus: *sulks* I'm going nowhere. You can't make me.
Me: *headdesk*
the Ginny/Luna story
Luna: D'you know what, I'm rather tired of fic writers constantly making me into an Artiste - what if I don't want to be a writer?
Me: Oh go on, do it for me?
Luna: Hmph. Maybe.
Me: Thank you! Now then, see pretty, red-headed girl over there? Name of Ginny?
Luna: What?
Me: Go on, she's nice, isn't she?
Luna: Sssh. I am busy being an Artiste. I do not care for your red-headed girls.
Me: *headdesk*
the one where it's all a bit Shakespearian
Sirius: Hey, do you know what would be really fun?
Me: Sirius, I've got quite enough to be writing at the moment, go away.
Sirius: *sulks*
Me: *sigh* All right fine, what is it?
Sirius: Well. How about if I was betrothed to Lily, but she eloped with James, and her best friend Remus (who was completely in love with me, obviously) told me and we all romped off into the wood for capers, and Peter can be a fairy or something?
Me: Um - have you been reading your Shakespeare anthology again?
Sirius: Why yes! Remus is so proud.
Remus: I am not! Why do I have to be Helena, anyway? You're much more likely to trail around after me anyway, you soppy git.
Sirius: But I'm so much more eligible for the fair Miss Evans to be married off to!
Remus: Oi!
Me: Sort it out amongst yourselves, would you? And I have not got time just now to deal with you all.
Peter: *pouts* I want to be a fairy!
Me: *headdesk*
Individual characters are also harassing me at the moment, witness:
Lily: Hey, you! You owe me fic!
Me: *hides*
Lily: Now come on, I can see right through that lampshade. But pretty
7spells prompts + pretty me, there is no bad here, right?
Me: But... time! Time I do not have! Anyway, you're going to get all changed in a month anyway, I know it.
Lily: *sulks*
Martha: Hi there.
Me: Ooh, hello!
Martha: My programme's eating your brain at the moment, yes?
Me: Yes!
Martha: And you think I'm awesome, yes?
Me: Oh yes!
Martha: So write me fic, now!
Me: *whimpers* Um, err...
Martha: *glares*
Me: All right, all right - ooh, how about I make my
femgenficathon story all about you, will that do?
Martha: *preens*
Mary Malone: He--
Me: Oh don't you start. I know, I know, I'm meant to be writing a story about you too.
Mary: It's ok, I'm in no rush! Catch me saying hello in future, God.
Me: Oh. Um. Sorry?
Mary: S'ok. I'll just be over here.
Me: Thank you! Someone with a sense of patience.
My poor, poor brain. Ugh. Still, soon there will be lots of time to deal with all of the above, hurray!
And now, for completeness, four drabbles I wrote for
faeriemaiden's birthday a few days ago:
---
Autumn
Regulus always mourns the death of summer, but Sirius never understands why. Autumn means the roar of a steam engine, and chocolate frogs, and conspiracies tucked away in rattling carriages. Autumn means new syllabus that will perhaps grab Sirius' attention for a little longer this time. There's Hogsmeade and butterbeer, the chance to exchange this repressive house that is no longer a home for living, almost breathing stone. Explosions and headlong days await, as he exchanges his inadequate blood relatives for a family of Remus, Peter, and James.
Yes, autumn is good. He packs his scarf into his trunk, beaming.
---
Fairy Tales
"Shall I read you a story?" Ted asks, swinging his little girl onto his knee. She claps her hands together excitedly, eyes enormously round and blue today. "Okay, let's see what we've got – oh, wow, look at this, it's Aunty Susan's book of fairy stories!"
"Fairies?" Nymphadora pulls a face. "Fairies are boring, they don't do anything!"
"Oh no, these are special fairies, fairies that can do magic!"
"Like me?"
"Yes, that's right, darling." Ted opens the book, resting a page on her knee, where the pictures his sister so loved as a child lie waiting. She frowns at their stillness, and he quickly taps the edge of the book with his wand. They dance enticingly across the page, and she leans forward, swept away. Ted doesn't think he need bother with the words.
---
Cathedrals
Remus stands at the back, watching the service progress with wonder. The intricate rituals, the reverence with which the congregation receive bread and wine. It is something he has never been able to fathom. Lily used to come here sometimes, he knows, and so he is an onlooker today, in her memory.
The vaulted ceilings arch away almost out of sight, and sunlight pours in leaving rose-tinged patterns on the floor. Hymns are raised in exultation of something Remus barely understands, but unbidden his lips move too, in some half-forgotten melody, and when the church-goers bow their heads, he prays.
---
Daydreams
They lie on their backs, all four of them, gazing at their castles in the sky.
"Keeper for the Tornados 'til I'm twenty five," James declares, "then onto become Minister for Magic."
"Quidditch commentator," decides Peter.
Remus pauses for a moment. "Rock star," he concludes.
Sirius grins. "Pah, I don't need a career. The Doctor's coming for me any day now."
There's a chorus of groans that Sirius barely registers.
"Just you wait – there'll be that whooshing sound, and bam! I'll be gone." He sits up slightly. "If you're lucky, I'll bring you back an alien's head each."
The others exchange glances, but Sirius lies back again, trying to find the cloud that looks most like a phone box, humming what sounds suspiciously like the theme tune to himself.
---
eta: And, err, LJ hates me? Now edited so that three of those don't all end with the same last line, because, you know, that makes no sense and I'm not quite sure how that happened anyway. Grr.

Me: But... time! Time I do not have! Anyway, you're going to get all changed in a month anyway, I know it.
Too true!
Enjoyed the drabbles. Surprising, liked the last one enormously, though I don't know a thing about Dr Who. I think the "rock star" bit won me over. *smile* Well done! Maggie
no subject
And thank you! I'm quite taken with the idea of Remus the rock star myself.
no subject
Your drabbles are beautiful. Each one--the images are perfect. Sirius as the Doctor's companion--heee!
no subject
Thank you very much! And yes, I'm very smitten with that idea at the moment, hee hee.
no subject
Also, know the feeling about progress. My writing list is several miles long, and I'm trying to avoid writing HP fic until next month. So much for catching up on writing over the summer.

no subject
Ugh, yes exactly. Damn you, Deathly Hallows, getting in the way of my fic-writing.
no subject
I want to see how JKR ends the series, but I don't want my fic Jossed, damn it.
no subject
And yes, exactly. Can't she just write bits of it to our specifications? Because I think that would work out all round.
no subject
no subject
no subject
Also -- that first drabble. Oh, poor Reg; Sirius really doesn't get it, does he? ♥
no subject
Hee, trust you to pick out the Regulus bit in that - no, he doesn't get it, not really.
no subject
no subject
no subject
also I want to write Ten/Martha fic damn damn damn.
no subject
D'you know what, I'm going to be kind, and not comment on that. Because you know what my response would be. =D
no subject
I think I know exactly what your response would be. I HATE EVERYONE AND AM GOING TO GO AND LIVE IN A CAVE.
SO THAT MAYBE I CAN ATTEND A HERMITS UNITED MEETING.
no subject
Anyway.
YES THEY ARE. No appreciation for your efforts!
Glee! =D =D Oh my God that was the most wonderful thing in the history of wonderful things.
no subject
second: SIRIUS & THE DOCTOR OMG. WIN!! and rock star!Remus is just about the most awesome thing ever. XD actually, i really like all of those drabbles. i felt bad for poor Reg in the first one because it must suck to have such an oblivious brother.
third: ♥
no subject
YES! YES YES. And thank you!
&hearts =D We must stop running into each other like this!
no subject
i would pretty much not object AT ALL if you ever decided to expand upon that Sirius & The Doctor drabble. :D
hee! it's becoming something of a habit, isn't it? :3
no subject
Ohhh, it is on the cards. Along with a stupid amount of other things, but most certainly present.
Yes indeed! :-*
no subject
omg YAY! i'll try to be patient in my waiting for it since i know how it goes to have 3858976945 fic ideas bouncing about at once.
♥!
no subject
no subject
(And hello there, almost-birthday girl!)
no subject
Hello to you! ;D ♥
no subject
That first one is gorgeous: happy and bittersweet and autumny.
I sympathise re all the fics you're trying to write - but I love the way they're all in character when they speak to you!
no subject
And thank you!
Oh dear, my mind is a rather odd place a lot of the time. But, you know, in a fun way, occasionally.
no subject
Everything else, too.
Cathedral was particularly moving.
no subject
And thank you very much!
no subject
Loved the drabbles as well. Wee Tonks is was adorable; echo the 'rock star' love; and for some reason I found Peter's future goals a little heart breaking.
no subject
Thank you! And yes, poor Peter, really. =(
no subject
also, Mary Malone! &hearts &hearts i've been checking on the prompt claims from time to time in hopes of guilt-tripping myself into writing SOMETHING, and i realized, hey, you've got my prompt! so squee for that, at least... :D
no subject
Oh I didn't realise that was yours! Should have guessed, though. =D Mmm, when I do finally get the time I'm really looking forward to having a go at that.
