Sometimes, Morgana thinks she loves Gwen best in the morning, asleep in Morgana's bed after she's spent the night, her curls strewn about her face and looking careless and content. Morgana wants to frame the moment, keep Gwen here, keep her safe, and in the dawn light that plays softly over Gwen's skin, it feels possible.
But maybe she loves Gwen best on the days when she's alight with happiness, flowers in her hair and a melody on her breath as she tends to Morgana's chambers with a dozen light touches Morgana has learned to appreciate more than she has words to say. Instead, she offers her inadequate thanks by dropping kisses to Gwen's hand, her cheek, her lips.
No, that's not right either. Strange those it might seem, Morgana thinks she just might love Gwen best the moment before she enters a room. Gwen is dependable, steady as the seasons, something certain in an uncertain world. Morgana knows she can count on Gwen to be there, even in her nightmares, at the end of all things, and for that, Morgana loves her best of all.
