Aziraphale/Crowley fic recs
In the further adventures of 'the Good Omens miniseries ate my entire brain', I cannot even remember the last time I was reading so much fic for one fandom and mostly one ship. Accordingly, here are 46 Aziraphale/Crowley Good Omens TV fandom fic recs, subdivided into the following categories:
Getting Together (11) / Missing Scene (3) / LGBT+ Themes (4) / Space Feelings (3) / Historical (12) / Plot/AU (6) / Ace-spectrum (4) / South Downs (2) / Crossover (1)
Many are more than one of the above. All on the AO3, so click through for warnings, rating and wordcount info. As with all recs, this is a list of stories that were particularly relevant to my interests rather than The Best Ones. Many of the authors below have written other great fic in the fandom also that you should check out. For the most part I've not been reading a huge amount of primarily sex-focused fic in this fandom.
I think that's all the caveats! Writing this up took forever, but I would also like to do some recs for other fanworks and for non-A/C focused stories.
In the words of one excellent AO3 tag: 'god they're so in love someone punch me in the face'.
GETTING TOGETHER
Good Omens (TV) - i'd like for you and i to go romancing - dollsome [Archive of Our Own]
In which people keep mistaking Crowley and Aziraphale for a couple, and Aziraphale starts to wonder if there might be something to it.
Completely adorable story where Aziraphale gets fixated on everyone seeming them as a couple all the time.
Good Omens (TV) - Love Hath Made Thee a Tame Snake - thehoyden [Archive of Our Own]
He was the bloody Serpent of Eden, and he wasn’t going to stand for this kind of flagrant trespassing.
Crowley starts hanging out in the bookshop as a snake and terrifying the customers. Aziraphale is delighted. With bonus Yelp reviews.
Good Omens - Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett - get religion quick (cause you're looking divine) - brinnanza [Archive of Our Own]
Crowley let out a theatrical sigh and released Aziraphale so he could pinch the bridge of his nose. “So theoretically,” he said, sounding very tired now, “if a very long lived creature, say, an immortal occult being, loved something or someone - I don’t know, say an immortal ethereal being - for a very, very long time, that love, to you, would be indistinguishable from background noise?”
An extremely good entry in the genre of, to paraphrase
toft, the question is not just 'do they like me' but 'is this person even capable of experiencing love in the same way that I do??'. What glorious pining.
Good Omens (TV) - it's a new craze - attheborder [Archive of Our Own]
Crowley and Aziraphale are very possibly the people least qualified, on the entire planet, to start up an advice podcast.
But what else is there to do when the world isn’t ending anytime soon, you’re technically on indefinite sabbatical from your lifelong careers, and you need a plausible excuse to spend more time with your best friend who you’re definitely not, absolutely not, maybe just a little, actually maybe overwhelmingly in love with?
I feel deeply catered to by this story! Somewhat inspired by the podcast My Brother, My Brother and Me but no knowledge of that required. Delightful script format with fannish chatlogs and other joys.
Good Omens - Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett - The Curious Attractiveness of Others - Giddygeek [Archive of Our Own]
“I’m rough,” Crowley argued. “A rough beast, and all that. Well,” he corrected himself, “an agent of the rough beast. Well, an associate. It’s all very complicated, as you bloody well know."
Wingfic, pining, Crowley being a complete disaster, good for the soul all round.
Good Omens - Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett - What you've always known - imperfectcircle [Archive of Our Own]
Aziraphale beamed at him. "I just thought, well, I never really do new things, do I? And there you are, doing new things all the time. It seemed rather jolly."
This is so silly and sweet and lovely. Aziraphale has a mid life crisis. Crowley panics and runs away to Newcastle.
Good Omens (TV) - The Better Part of Valour - obstinatrix [Archive of Our Own]
Said I, a few weeks ago: "I feel there’s also room for e.g. bedsharing fic where the apocalypse has Not Happened and they’ve fallen into queerplatonic (or so they think) bedsharing and Crowley thinks he’s alone in being driven slowly to distraction by it, so he says nothing. Then one night he wakes when it’s still dark, and at first he doesn’t know why, until he hears Aziraphale’s breathing a little raspier than usual, and feels the very slight trembling of the bed."
And lo, that is exactly what this is.
This probably has the highest porn to not porn ratio on this recs list! This just a tremendous amount of pining and also features both of them making vulva-based Efforts for the occasion, super hot.
Good Omens (TV) - In the (Second) Beginning - cherryfeather [Archive of Our Own]
Aziraphale realizes that Crowley's been saying something rather loudly for a week.
Crowley has a somewhat overdue meltdown after the end of the world.
Good Omens (TV) - the deft, sweet gesture of your hand - deadgreeks [Archive of Our Own]
Crowley arrives injured at Aziraphale's door. He takes care of him, reads him an awful lot of Mary Oliver, and knits elaborate metaphors for his insecurities (literally).
Post-series, Crowley gets roughed up by some demons and Aziraphale nurses him back to health while only a little being a complete anxious disaster.
Good Omens - Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett - A Street in a Strange World - Giddygeek [Archive of Our Own]
In the beginning, God gave the angel Aziraphale a flaming sword.
Where Aziraphale talks to God and I have a million feelings.
Good Omens (TV) - giving up on giving up slowly - taizi [Archive of Our Own]
Nanael is still puttering about the shop a month later. Aziraphale has grown fond of them, not in the least because they take to the books like a fish to water.
Aziraphale gets accidentally adopted by a smol (mere 800 year old) angel.
MISSING SCENE - THAT NIGHT AT CROWLEY'S FLAT
Good Omens - Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett - Be Thou My Vision - Percyjacksonfan3 [Archive of Our Own]
In episode Six there's a missing scene where Crowley and Aziraphale figure out the final prophecy and make a plan. This is my take on that missing night.
"Any other angel would have called the emotion love. Aziraphale was trying not to, not only because he was intimately familiar with the defensive changeability of Crowley’s temperament but because he was scared of the fragility of his own heart."
So much fraught pining! This whole genre of fic is just so good for me.
Good Omens - Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett - The Inevitable - Toft [Archive of Our Own]
Crowley is barely aware of moving before his face is buried in Aziraphale’s shoulder, arms and legs wrapped around him, his hands like claws holding Aziraphale’s stripy shirt in a death grip. After making a surprised noise, Aziraphale hushes him and pats his back, and Crowley hates it.
Extremely delightful entry in the 'oh no there's only one bed!' genre, complete with full body clinging.
Good Omens - Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett - The Movement of Molecules - juliet [Archive of Our Own]
“Aziraphale kept looking at Crowley’s hands, those hands that could never stay still. He kept thinking about touching: about touching Crowley’s fingers, and leaning against his shoulder, and about all those Crowley-atoms that made up his dear familiar corporation, and how here they were having saved the world and saved themselves and they’d known each other for six thousand years and they were still sitting at opposite ends of the sofa and he wanted, he wanted…
They never touched. Why didn’t they touch?”
Aziraphale has spent a long time not touching Crowley.
I love this in depth look at the actual process of the bodyswap.
LGBT+ THEMES
Good Omens - Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett - such surpassing brightness - Handful_of_Silence [Archive of Our Own]
The revelation that Aziraphale might have been in love with him for thousands of years is surprising. The fact that literal books have been written on the subject comes as even more of a shock.
AZIRAPHALE THE PATRON SAINT OF QUEERS I have so many feelings.
Good Omens (TV) - Long-Term - idiopathicsmile [Archive of Our Own]
Officiating weddings has got to be one of Dr. Blackwell’s favorite parts of ministry, and although she’s probably not supposed to have preferences, if she looks deep into her jaded lesbian heart with any degree of honesty, queer weddings are by far the best.
A+ outsider POV.
Good Omens - Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett - With a Pure Heart Fervently (See That Ye Love One Another) - emjee (MerryHeart) [Archive of Our Own]
“Anyway,” Crowley says, “I’m surprised you didn’t bring it up sooner. It’s literally a giant festival about love, figured it would be right up your alley.”
Or, no cops at Pride, just Crowley and his sword-wielding husband.
Aziraphale's sword starts showing up again at intervals, for bigot-intimidating purposes.
Good Omens - Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett - Eziraphael's Gifts: A History of Queer Faith and Longing, by Natasha Marie Johnson (Beacon Press, 2019). - actualbat [Archive of Our Own]
"If Eziraphael has come to be known--in today's language--as the 'guardian angel of sad queers,' then it makes sense for him to have shown up more regularly in the past once that became a recognizable historical category."
Natasha is really glad that she's given this talk enough times to be able to do it on autopilot, because those two funny-looking men in the back just made the most absurdly astonished faces.
(Or: Not all historians ignore gay subtext, and not all immortal celestial beings have their shit together. Also, voodoo.)
I love this outsider POV queer academia story a lot.
SPACE FEELINGS
Good Omens - Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett - Fly Me to the Moon - Vera (Vera_DragonMuse) [Archive of Our Own]
In which they get to Alpha Centauri after all.
Sci-fi future fic about humanity expanding beyond Earth, and Aziraphale and Crowley going with. I love this a lot.
Good Omens (TV) - A Sky Full of Stars - Kedreeva [Archive of Our Own]
Aziraphale takes Crowley as close to Heaven as they can get, these days.
This is just stunning.
Good Omens (TV) - If I Have, Then I Have For You - momebie (katilara) [Archive of Our Own]
(Or, the one in which, after everything, Aziraphale takes Crowley up on going to Alpha Centurai.)
Space! Feelings! Space feelings! It's all I want.
HISTORICAL
Good Omens (TV) - When in Rome - reserve [Archive of Our Own]
“Well.” Crowley stood and stretched, looking rather more serpentine than usual. “See you at the orgy then. I’ll look for you by the buffet.”
Aziraphale and Crowley bumping into each other at Roman orgies is an extremely good fandom trope that I enjoy very much.
Good Omens (TV) - let me feel your heartbeat (grow faster, faster) - thehoyden [Archive of Our Own]
Aziraphale saw him sometimes in all-staff meetings, sitting toward the front but off to the side, lounging against a wall. Even then, he’d had style—wings tipped in gold and face painted with gold flakes in the pattern of the first constellation he designed. He was amazing, and eye-catching, and it was no exaggeration to say that he did not know Aziraphale even existed.
In which Aziraphale has feelings for Crowley even before he Fell. In case, you know, 6000+ years of pining wasn't enough! :D
Good Omens (TV) - Every Atom Belonging to Me - triedunture [Archive of Our Own]
Crowley is rendered temporarily mortal after a run-in with a-- Well, it doesn't really matter. What matters is he needs to eat and sleep and do the things humans must do if only for one night. Aziraphale can help with the eating bit, at least.
A cozy, sweet evening with tea, drinks, food, poems, and warm blankets.
Excellent h/c with a grumpily vulnerable Crowley.
Good Omens (TV) - some of us are looking at the stars - kaydeefalls [Archive of Our Own]
Five humans who were worth making an Effort for, and someone else worth quite a bit more than that.
Vignettes throughout time including a lot of queer history and genderfluid Crowley.
Good Omens (TV) - i can't say the words, so i wrote you into my verse - mygalfriday (BrinneyFriday) [Archive of Our Own]
Aziraphale blinks as it slowly dawns on him exactly what he’s looking at. Crowley has a tattoo. Well, another one anyway. Unlike the small serpent curled just beneath his temple, this one takes up far more space.
Using your words is hard, so Crowley gets tattoos of his feelings throughout history instead.
Good Omens (TV) - You, Soft and Only - thehoyden [Archive of Our Own]
He hadn’t expected a sudden lapful of angel.
“Very sorry about this,” Aziraphale said, and kissed him.
Undercover as a couple throughout history, from distraction makeouts to fake married (so fake, totally fake, none feelings, all chill).
Good Omens (TV) - An Angel who did not so much Fall In Love as Settle Into It Gradually - TheLadyZephyr [Archive of Our Own]
The story of the little moments over the millennia that shape an angel’s regard for a demon, and the way he slowly, with great reluctance but inevitable surety, falls in love.
a lovely broad range of historical vignettes leading up to that night in Crowley's flat.
Good Omens - Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett - sing for the angel a psalm of shadows - Raven (singlecrow) [Archive of Our Own]
“Sahib,” Aziraphale says. “I am not named for Israfel. I am the one to whom Allah gave the name.”
Five times Aziraphale attempted to tempt a human being and failed, utterly and completely, in service of God’s plan.
singlecrow has made so many beautiful things for the fandom that are all wonderful. This one about Aziraphale a) being very bad at tempting for the Arrangement and b) being part of Islamic theology has particularly stayed with me.
Good Omens - Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett - Something to do with these sacred words - Solshine [Archive of Our Own]
Crowley confesses early, and Crowley confesses often. Aziraphale never knows quite what to say.
I really like this genre of fic - Crowley's completely open about his feelings but Aziraphale can't really handle it. Sweet disaster angel. <3
Good Omens - Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett - Too Wise To Woo Peaceably - purewanderlust [Archive of Our Own]
Crowley's favorite of Shakespeare's works is Much Ado About Nothing, and they've seen it together at least a dozen times.
It's a wonder, then, that it takes them over four hundred years to realize that they have vastly different interpretations of the text.
OR: Five times Crowley and Aziraphale see Much Ado About Nothing.
Shakespeare and feelings through the ages. Gorgeous.
Good Omens (TV) - What's Done In the Dark - momebie (katilara) [Archive of Our Own]
“You glow,” Crowley said. “You burn. You just sometimes also burn through me. It’s a reaction, I think. Because your holiness doesn’t belong in me.”
“Dearest,” Aziraphale said. “Heat cannot start a fire if there is nothing to burn.”
Almost literally a slow burn. This is a long and beautiful story about Crowley through the ages.
Good Omens (TV) - The Lightness of You - Rend_Herring [Archive of Our Own]
God should not have built them with such discrepancy, made them need for love, and long for wholeness, then left them to their own devices.
Crowley as a raw nerve of love through the ages, and it's awful until it isn't.
PLOT/AU
Good Omens (TV) - If We've Got Nothing (We've Got Us) - Kedreeva [Archive of Our Own]
Two months after the world didn't end, Aziraphale finds the first dark feather growing in his wings.
I love this premise and its expansion for the future of Heaven and Hell.
Good Omens - Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett - Everything Else Is A Substitute For Your Love - Aria [Archive of Our Own]
"You can't have been a demon," Aziraphale said. "No one used to be a demon. Why would you say that?"
Gorgeous story where as part of reshaping the world, Adam undoes Crowley's Fall, and Crowley gets a glimpse of an Aziraphale who never knew him.
Good Omens - Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett - Five Times Aziraphale Saves Crowley (And One Time He Fails) - Captain_Kieren [Archive of Our Own]
1. Holy Water
2. Exorcised
3. Thrown
4. Stabbed
5. Demon Hunter
+1. Betrayed
Does end happily despite title's implication!
Good Omens (TV) - Sisyphus I & II - spqr [Archive of Our Own]
Honestly, the interdepartmental Heaven & Hell Task Force For Dealing With Those Two Fucking Troublemakers should’ve considered how difficult it would be to disentangle 6,000 years of friendship. It was, on a cosmic scale, quite like trying to disentangle an Earth-sized ball of yarn which a truly enormous kitten had spent the last few millennia batting about with great enthusiasm.
{OR: as punishment for fraternization, Aziraphale and Crowley get turned into liberal arts students}
I wouldn't necessarily be into the idea of a full US college!AU but this is an absolute delight, complete with amnesia tropes and possibly the single most extra thing Crowley's done in any fic I've read to date.
Good Omens (TV) - The Strong Tower - BuggreAlleThis [Archive of Our Own]
After the failed executions, a vengeful angel takes it upon herself to neutralise the threat presented by Crowley and Aziraphale.
I'm completely obsessed with this. It goes heavy on the hurt and heavy on the comfort, the graphic violence warnings are not fucking around. This is also a beautifully theologically dense story with fantastic characterisation and the comfort of reading about major peril in the assurance it'll be all right in the end.
BuggreAlleThis's current WIP is a thriller that I am enjoying tremendously as well.
Good Omens (TV) - human nature - attheborder [Archive of Our Own]
Crowley must turn Aziraphale human in order to hide him from Heaven.
(Inspired by/fusion with Doctor Who’s Human Nature/Family of Blood arc)
Wonderful concept wonderfully executed.
ASEXUAL-SPECTRUM
Good Omens - Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett - nothing but the wild rain - Raven (singlecrow) [Archive of Our Own]
"The internet, Aziraphale!" Crowley says. "This is what the internet is for. This is, quite literally, what the internet is for."
I love this so much I podficced it. Aziraphale and Crowley can't really get their heads around human-style sex, but they figure something out.
Good Omens (TV) - A Brunch Long Foretold - maskedfangirl [Archive of Our Own]
“What about sex?” Crowley said. “Does sex sound interesting to you? Flapping these meat suits together until we lose control of them?”
Aziraphale and Crowley try to talk about their feelings. It's a work in progress.
Good Omens (TV) - Birds of a Feather - Kedreeva [Archive of Our Own]
A collection of unrelated platonic wing!fic involving Aziraphale and Crowley.
kedreeva writes a lot of wonderful stories about wings/other bird behaviours and an A/C relationship that is very loving and nonsexual I love it.
Good Omens (TV) - By Definition - idiopathicsmile [Archive of Our Own]
“Sorry, was that too much? I can never tell; it all feels equally transgressive to me. I’d like to cuddle after, too.”
Fantastic take on one way a asexual/allosexual sexual relationship can work.
SOUTH DOWNS
Good Omens (TV) - Anywhere You Want to Go - Aria [Archive of Our Own]
Aziraphale knew Crowley liked him. He'd known it with a horrible clarity since around 1100, which was at least a thousand years after the first time he'd thought of kissing Crowley, and some eight hundred and odd before it occurred to him that the specific quality of Crowley's regard could be very dangerous for both of them, if they actually admitted their feelings aloud.
It was also two weeks since any of that had mattered at all anymore.
As Ari's tag says, 'This Isn't A Slowburn But It Sure Is Riding On The Coattails Of One'. Aziraphale and Crowley go to a cottage in the South Downs and Aziraphale finally catches up.
Good Omens (TV) - Something We Were Withholding Made Us Weak - triedunture [Archive of Our Own]
"Yes, exactly. Retire." Aziraphale reaches for the last remaining tartlet brimming with summer berries. "Somewhere along the south coast, perhaps."
Or: Crowley and Aziraphale learn to move in tandem.
Retirement, and feelings, are hard.
CROSSOVER
Leverage/Good Omens - The Soho Bookshop Job - Poetry [Archive of Our Own]
Crowley asks Leverage to stop the shady corporation trying to buy out Aziraphale's bookshop. He gets rather more than he bargained for.
With no slight meant to the author, this fic does suggest I should care about Nate's inner life in a way that I will always refuse to do, but everything else is fantastic. A present-day job, and flashbacks for each of the Leverage crew having some kind of supernatural encounter in the past.
Getting Together (11) / Missing Scene (3) / LGBT+ Themes (4) / Space Feelings (3) / Historical (12) / Plot/AU (6) / Ace-spectrum (4) / South Downs (2) / Crossover (1)

Anyway, going down the recs, I'm like 'Read it, read it, on to-read-list, New!, read it, read it...'
The cream clearly rises to the top. :)
Although I have spotted a gap in your reading, since it would appear you have no 'Nanny Crowley' fics... I'll arrange them so they follow Warlock's age:
Baby:
older now, and the light is dim. (Warning: Emotionally devastating.)
Toddler/young child:
Little Warlock is always asking questions. Nanny is the only one who always answers (Tumblr ficlet.)
Brokering A Good Deal (Warlock gets smart.)
Nanny was a Hypocrite. (Short Tumblr comic. Warlock sees through them.)
Age eleven:
Family by Association . (After the apocalypse Warlock heads home to England to find his nanny. Just lovely.)
Age twenty two:
A Nanny? In MY Summoning Circle? (Summary: Warlock "Lockie" Dowling summons a demon. THIS ONE IS CANON I DON'T CARE, THIS IS WHAT WARLOCK GREW UP TO BE LIKE. IT IS GODDAMN GENIUS.)
I think that's all the ones I've read. :)
