Dear Festividder
Apologies for the delay!
If you find some detail helpful, here are some of my tastes, taken from last year's letter because I have not really changed.
Some kinds of vids that I like include: vids that explore the world of the source, swishy dancey action vids, emotional character-driven vids, vids about awesome women whether focused on one individual or a group of them, vids about people who love each other, vids exploring big thematic ideas and imagery, vids about comedy hijinx.
All of the sources I've requested are very dear to my heart in different ways, and seeing one of them come to life in your vid is going to be awesome, I'm so excited. Musically, I haven't met a genre you can't make an awesome vid out of.
Some other bits and pieces that I like - parallels, characters growing into their own awesomeness, hugs, montages, pretty fight sequences, pretty dance sequences, big emotions, sentimentality, meta analysis.
Fandoms: Arrival, The Good Place, The Martian, Moana, Moonlight, Star Trek: Discovery.
Arrival
What a beautiful film! I would love to see your take on this, although I would ask that the vid not be too focused on Hannah's death because I find that super upsetting. Something about Louise as a linguist and her journey to understanding the aliens would be super cool.
The Good Place
I love this show a lot! Chidi is perhaps my very favourite character but I adore all of them, and I'd be thrilled with a character study of any of them. I enjoy Eleanor/Chidi and Eleanor/Tahani. A wacky fun vid would be wonderful, as would something more sincere about how they're growing and changing as people (or not-people!).
The Martian
This film makes me feel a bit better about the state of humanity - I watched in on a plane and cried a lot at the international effort to save Mark Watney. I also love Mark himself and the rest of the crew. Everything about this film makes me happy so you can't go wrong.
Moana
This is such a lovely film. I would love a vid about Moana herself and her journey, she's so wonderful.
Moonlight
I am so excited to see what vidders can do with this film. I don't need a vid that shies away from the harder elements of the story but I would prefer something that ends happily/hopefully.
Star Trek: Discovery
DISCO DISCO DISCO. I love it so. I will be caught up with all the episodes. My faves are Burnham, Tilly, Stamets and Georgiou, and I love Burnham's relationships with all of them and also Stamets/Culber makes me happy in my heart. Saru is also delightful, but I don't particularly care about Lorca.
I love the way this show is about people in a fairly dark time trying to find their way towards a better future. I also love their faces. I especially love Michael Burnham very, very much. She's the best.
