Doctor Who 7x06
And the Blanketfort of Squee returns! (For those new around here - I think that critical engagement with a big show like Doctor Who is very important and I'm glad people do it, but I mostly don't. If you would also like to squee, here's a good place for you!)
+ I thought it was magical and lovely and managed to capture the Doctor's melancholy without making me annoyed with him. Seeing him fall in love with Clara was totally gorgeous, oh Doctor, I just want you to be happy again. <333 And his self-awareness, the way he recognised exactly what was happening and just embraced it, gave her the key right off the bat and everything, was just gorgeous.
+ New TARDIS! So pretty! Can't wait to see more of it! I also loved the revamped credits and theme music and everything. I was initially a bit nervous about having to adjust to a whole new era at once, but actually I think this makes it easier. It really feels like a whole new chapter in the story, and I think that's good. (Not least of which because it makes the Ponds a chapter of their very own, which, quite right.)
+ VASTRA AND JENNY OMG. ACD'S INSPIRATION FOR HOLMES. MARRIED ADORABLENESS. BADASSERY. BEST ALL ROUND. And set up as proper recurring characters eeeee I can't waaaait pls be a lead up to having your own show PLEASE. And, really, queer women on Christmas Day in family show, what a wonderful thing!
+ CLARA! Who is also Oswin! And also some other people?! Wtf is going on?! Heeee oh I'm excited, I'm looking forward to watching the Doctor chase after someone else's mystery for a change. Clara Who just as much as Doctor Who, awesome.
+ Just putting it out there: Clara is Romana. Well, someone had to say it.
+ No but really, my early bet is on some kind of sci-fi reincarnation business, possibly connected to the Great Intelligence that got dropped in here. My hope is that she'll become one integrated person eventually, because that scene going into the TARDIS on a cloud was too ridiculously beautiful not to be something she gets to remember. (OH MY GOD IT WAS SO BEAUTIFUL AHHH ALWAYS MY FAVOURITE SCENE.)
+ So Clara Oswin Oswald is very very clever, and plays with different identities - she's human and Dalek, a middle class governess and a working class barmaid. Maybe it's some version of her that's pulling all the strings here, that would be awesome. Also, reckon we get to meet Nina? What is 'going through a phase' was more like 'going through a life'? Does we mean we're also going to meet a Rory? And, actually, is she going to do a Rory herself and die a lot? Good lord.
+ VASTRA AND JENNY, THOUGH.
+ ... can we have the rest of the episodes now?

Clara's multiple identities and two accents were awesome. I want her back. Preferably with the amazing Victorian hat.
also, randomly, TWO uses of "Winter is Coming". DW loves Game of Thrones?
I like the new Tardis. It's quite shiny and a different aesthetic for a new chapter.

Clara/Doctor/River: I also ship it.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-25 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)Damn, you've beat me to the Clara is Romana. BUT! Did you notice her birthdate? 23 NOVEMBER! Drumroll, please. Yeah, I got nothing. But it is a bit strange, isn't it.
Yes, is it April now, is it, is it? :DDDDDD

Just in again to say that this is possibly my favourite Christmas specials of the last few years. The Christmas Invasion and The Runaway Bride have got competition at last!

Ohhhh, Clara's rather marvellous, isn't she? Seems to have recurring lives, so perhaps picks up intelligence and skills across all of them? Not sure if she's aware of her own greatness, or knowing the Doctor, or will come to realise it.
I liked Strax and his threatening-humans default setting. It was great. :)

I am so intrigued for the story behind Clara! I really hope you're right about the "going through a phase" thing, because it would just be so CLEVER.

Jenny & Vastra! Clara/Alice/Oswin/Whoever you are!
And I got nearly my whole family to watch it...I think Dad is intrigued enough, and impressed with Moffat's writing (he loves Sherlock) to start watching regularly...I sure hope so!
In all...HOORAY!
Only complaint: no announcement of when the next episode will air!

Also, it is hilarious that "do a Rory" now has a recognizable meaning. Poor Rory and his always dying/almost dying. :P

I am only a little bit worried that Moffat will screw up Oswin by having her always die and it will be romanticized in some way that denies her agency forever somehow. BUT NO WE WILL NOT LET THAT HAPPEN right??

I haven't finished watching it yet, but I needed somewhere to squee about that.
Live squeeing: "you really should delete your history."
And Clara's double life. And the Sontaran's battle minded approach to things.

Strax was an absolute delight, as well.
There was approximately nothing about it that wasn't amazing, and asdslghsdakg I am looking so forward to the back end of the season. *flail*

Also agreeing with everything you said.
I'm so intrigued about Clara/Oswin and her lives ! I wonder how much she remembers from one life to another. I'm assuming she's the same person everytime. But well, now I don't know how to call her... Is there a fandom consensus yet ?
All the love for Vastra and Jenny <3

Yes, this -- so much.
And I loved Clara going up to the TARDIS on a cloud (even if that means that every time I think or see the phrase I get a Les Misérables song in my head -- "there is a TARDIS on a cloud, I like to go there in my sleep...") -- what a gorgeous visual metaphor for how it feels to enter the Doctor's world. For us as viewers, and for her as a companion.

I can't wait for more.
