awesome women recs post

In the spirit of [livejournal.com profile] womenlovefest, I thought I'd host a little festival of recs. Some of the women we love have loads of stuff made for them, but not everyone knows where that is, and for other characters the goods are unfortunately few and far between.

How it works: you comment with an awesome lady you'd like some fanwork recs for, with details as appropriate. Other people comment with links. Squee for all!

Examples:

+ Amy Pond, fic or art set between the main action of the Eleventh Hour and the end of the episode. Gen preferred, though background Amy/Rory is fine.
+ Laura Roslin, icons and journal headers. No spoilers past s2, please.
+ Toph Bei Fong, any medium, any ship, with bonus points for femslash.

Put the character name in the subject of your comment. If someone's already commented with the character you had in mind, feel free to add your request beneath theirs in the thread.

I'll be in and out today, but will try and leave some recs for all the characters that I can! Feel free to include characters from fandoms I don't know, too, and hopefully other people can help you out.

I realize you say that Ruby's "characterization in it was quite good and she definitely plays a major role," but that could mean anything. I've had stories recced to me with similar statements, but read them and discovered it was, for example, Jo mooning over how awesome Dean is and how special his relationship with Sam is and how she's kind of wistfully jealous of it, or Elizabeth Weir from SGA giving a speech and then standing off to the side for the rest of the fic to let the men do the real work.

I know you tried to come up with a good fic to rec for this, and I appreciate that you tried to do that. But what I really want, when I'm going and looking for recs about women, is to find fics recced that are primarily about those women, not about men with the women as secondary characters.

Well, you can either read the story and find out... or you can not. It seems pretty unnecessary to get in a twist about it, either way. That's the best Ruby rec I've got; I think it's a pretty good one. I was very careful to note that it wasn't entirely within the theme of the fest; as you have demonstrated, no one's going to click that link thinking it's specifically Ruby-focused. My thinking, though clearly wrong in your book, was that more recs were better - especially considering that this rec is one of two total.

In short: I provided you the opportunity to make an informed decision. You decided to yell at me for it? Clear off.
