Brighter Than Sunflowers
edited by
such_heights
fandom: Doctor Who
characters: Amy, the Doctor, Vincent
music: Brighter Than Sunflowers - Jo Robbins
content notes: themes of depression and suicide as depicted in 'Vincent and the Doctor'
summary: The hope and the hurt in your heart.
notes: Episodic for 5x10, but footage from up to 6x06. Thanks to
kaydeefalls for the beta!
download: 30MB .avi direct download | subtitle .srt.
additional notes: I've wanted to make a vid for this episode for a long time, and when Jo posted this song inspired by it, it was the perfect opportunity. Jo is a brilliant musician, amongst other things, and hangs out on the internet at
faeriemaiden and
plenilune. If you liked this song, please consider supporting a fannish artist and buy the track - also, you can check out other music she's recorded at that bandcamp link.

lyrics:
lay your head, lay your head against the ground
slow your breathing and listen for the sound
all the earth is singing to you
all the stars are coming true
lay your head, lay your head over my heart
and I will try, I will try to do my part
I am singing you to sleep
I am giving you something to keep
close, close, close, close
and the hope and the hurt in your heart
brighter than sunflowers
lay your hand, lay your hand in mine
don’t you cry, time is only time
keep the windows open to the day
things the dark can never take
things the dark can never take
and the hope and the hurt in your heart
and the bright, bright star of all that you are
and the hope and the hurt in your heart
brighter than sunflowers
brighter than sunflowers
bright, bright star

Anyway, let me start over. "Vincent and the Doctor" is my favorite DW episode and I love what you did with the visuals of it, and I LOVE how it transitions to being about Amy and her arc as much as him. Beautiful.

(Sorry, in Italy right now, can't help myself!)
This has a different pacing than your other vids that I've seen, I think partly because of the music and partly because of the subject matter, and it's spot-on. Well done!
