Doctor Who 6x05
Ooh! Ooh! What is happening?!
So, mostly setting the plot and guest character stuff aside for the moment because I am reserving judgement until next week - I like base under siege plots and 'omg the clones are alive!' plots, but am hoping the resolution will be more interesting than usual - let us talk characters and arc stuff.
+ Everyone felt off this week, yes? Which I hope is deliberate - Rory and the Doctor, particularly, both seem to have Shenanigans going on of various kinds. The first scene with the darts in the TARDIS was ADORABLE OMG, but after that everyone seemed off-kilter.
+ Clearly the Doctor knows more about what's going on than he's letting on and is somewhat distracted from Amy and Rory by whatever that is.
+ RORY, DARLING, WHAT ARE YOU DOING. You are not usually one to run recklessly into danger, as you yourself say at the beginning of the episode! But as has been pointed out to me, well, he's going to be particularly invested in this situation. Rory, after all, knows exactly what it's like to be a plastic copy of yourself. So I hope that this is all deliberate and that's where they're going with his arc in this story, because that is very cool and sad. And in general I thought this was a really interesting episode for Rory, how he's not a natural one for heroism and adventure but is so strongly motivated by people needing him. <3
+ Needed Moar Amy. I am happy for Rory to get some story of his own, but all three of them should get cool storylines every week, and also I want a pony!
+ TWO DOCTORS OMG. Is the ganger!Doctor going to stick around and be the one who dies in 6x01? What does the Doctor know that he isn't letting on? What is WITH Amy's Schroedinger baby and the cyborg door lady? Etc etc.
+ Is it next Saturday yet?

Agree that they felt 'off' -- the whole thing felt rather like a replay of Hungry Earth/Cold Blood, in fact -- but then that hour-unconscious gap allows for a lot of shenanigans to be going on in terns of who's really who (or indeed Who). Also agree that the Doctor seems to know how gangers developed subsequently and that it's not something he likes much.
I did wish though that they'd at least referred in passing to the fact that Rory more than anyone knows what the Gangers are going through. When the script doesn't it's worrying, in case they've actually overlooked it! (Like Voyager with the holodeck-playing-real-Maquis two-parter.)
I guessed as soon as it became clear what gangers were that this might be the missing factor in 6x01, but now ganger!Doctor has actually showed up I rather doubt that, since it's a bit too obvious too early. Unless ganger!Doctor is going to be the one who continues, of course.

I had forgotten about the hour gap, that's a good point! Hmmmm. And I have to assume that they'll reference the Rory thing next week otherwise I agree, that's just an oversight.

That's what I felt it was? But I feel like it's weird that he didn't say that to Amy or the Doctor at some point. So maybe it's a line for the next episode.
I also feel like this season is exploring Rory a lot more (thank god) and he needs to fix/protect things in a Nursey type way. Which I really enjoy.
I do hate two-parters though. I hope next weeks proves why it was necessary to split these two.

Well, I guess I'll have a lot of Who to watch next week!
(I have a Policy on two-parters that aren't series finales, nowadays .. . )

I agree that they all felt a bit off in this episode. I thought it might just be the situation, but maybe it's the writing.

Anyway, yes to so much you've said. I completely overlooked Rory's history as a duplicate would make him sympathetic to ganger Jennifer. I suspected that Rory and Amy were gangers - did you see Rory throw himself at Cleeves and damage the weapon she was using? When they arrived Rory didn't want to continue in to potentially dangerous situation, he wanted to return to the TARDIS. At the end Rory was running into danger to help non-ganger Jennifer. Hold on, am I confused?
Rory and Amy did a fair bit of silent communication through expressions and whispering to each other in the background which just made me happy. <3 married <3
