+ First of all, wtf wtf with Amy's Schrödinger baby and the TIME LORD CHILD and the CYBORG ASTRONAUT SUIT, whaaaaat. I am so excited for the rest of the season!

+ PONDS! Delightful, delightful Ponds, where Rory is still a bit insecure but Amy totally loves him and also they have spinny hugs and save each other. LOVE.

+ ELEVEN AND RIVER ARE MARRIED IN SPACE OMGGGG. THAT KIIIIISSSS. *flails* (Why does the canon het on this show work so well for me? I don't know, I just go with it!) The Doctor not knowing what to do with his hands! His surprised but pleased face! Eeee! (We are not speaking of River's last line and the implications thereof because is it TOO SAD and I will not allow it!)

+ RIVER FUCKING SONG. How is she real?! *_* Jumping off a building and landing in the TARDIS swimming pool! Being a badass with a gun! Everything else she did! <33333

+ Rory and Eleven's conversation about Rory's time as a Roman! Yes! Confirmation of my pet theory about Rory's experience of those memories, like a door he can open or close. And aw, I continue to be super happy to see him developing relationships of his own with the rest of the team and being a Proper Companion. *squishes him*

+ AMYYYYYY. HER FAAAACE. RUNNING THROUGH THE DESERT. HER DETECTIVE SKILLS. THAT HOT BLACK OUTFIT SHE WAS WEARING. AND EVERYTHING ELSE SHE DID.

(I appreciate that him wanting to get married is a pretty anachronistic picture of gay rights in the US in the Sixties, BUT I DON'T CARE.) We can clearly see that River has her time manipulator thingie in this ep, HOW can it not be after TPO/TBB? Ugh. I choose to believe that River thinks she's going backwards but they aren't, thus she is going to be DELIGHTFULLY SURPRISED in her future.

ANYWAYS, ALL OF THIS. I am pleased with Canton being queer! Not so pleased that it was all, "Oh, well, we can't be THAT liberal," but I am happy just to have the conversation, I guess.

YES, I AGREE! For once, River does not know everything, and awesomeness lies in store for her. (... I may have to write that story this week.)

Yeah, Nixon's response being played for laughs wasn't ideal, but I find it hard to care because it's just the kind of character I'd like to see more of in my sci-fi - awesome hero first, queer second. <3

YES YOU SHOULD WRITE THAT. In fact I feel like we should make it a requirement. Between now and the next River ep there should be EIGHT BILLION of those fics.

And yeah, I fall on both sides on the queer thing. Especially considering it was during an era where homosexual meant Red Menace, Nixon's general acceptance is good, and I'm thrilled it was there. I guess I'm kind of annoyed, now that I feel it out, that when we get queerness it is in the historical era that lets it be dismissed? But hopefully it will be a bigger theme this series and then I will put my objections away. :D

So now I'm even more confused about River's timeline, in a "brain hurts Moffat you are evil genius" way. I think y'all are right that it comes after TPO/TBB (because of lack of surprise at the universe exploding comment and presence of the vortex manipulator, which I missed, so good catch tellitslant!), but if she was expecting the Doc to kiss her goodbye, that would imply that he'd done it the last time she saw him...which he didn't in TBB...so maybe we are missing a chunk? But it seemed to me that the River at the wedding in TBB knew about this kiss as being the one that changes everything, or maybe she's referring to something else that changes everything? And now my brain is about to burst again trying to keep everything straight.

Was an excellent episode. All of the things that you said, especially about The Ponds. Awww!

My husband has pointed out that, intentionally or not, it's a metaphor for Alzheimer's. Slipping away but she doesn't know how much he remembers. Owww.

My sister and I briefly discussed it earlier today, but I'm slowly getting increasingly irritated at the implication that their timelines are going perfectly opposed to each other. Especially since the Doctor can't freaking drive the TARDIS. They're time travelers! They jump around! There is no reason to think that just because that was the first time for him it's also the last time for her. The little things drive me up the wall, seriously. You should have seen my complaints about the weeping angels two-parter.

Heh, I still am not quite happy with that gay marriage thing. It's going to play and my parents are going to laugh, because gay marriage in America is ridiculous. And I'm going to want to curl up into a ball and die. And Moffatt did that, because he ignored the fact that you still can't get married here.

So yeah. Still feeling bitter and pissed at the entire thing.

River was amazing. She is basically Han Solo, but cooler and with more awesome hair (and I love Harrison Ford's hair).

I had the first urge for fic in ages about how Rory and Amy must have first met, because I am really liking them this season (even if that little "it's totally Rory, but it'll sound like it's the Doctor" thing was awkward and heavy handed at parts), but then I realized I'd have to research stuff and it died in a fit of laziness, but it does mean that this episode was especially inspiring towards them.

Ahhhhhhh I was going to link you to a fic of my sister's from Rory's POV about them as kids and growing up and how their relationship developed from her being the weird kid that didn't have any friends who was constantly trying to re-play her encounter with the Doctor and try to figure out what happened, and then I realised... she (as far as I know) didn't finish it, and therefore didn't post it. So sad! It was totally adorable. It was called Very Slow, In The Right Order.

The Silence are still fucking scary. I think they're the scariest monsters I've seen on Who- they're scarier than the Weeping Angels, even, at least to me. Also, partway through the episode I became convinced that the child in the spacesuit was River as a kid and that she was Amy's kid. Then I realized why that wouldn't work.

YAY with the "Yes, HE is". Agreed that it's anachronistic but still awesome. The way Mark Sheppard delivered the line was great. It's too bad he's such a dick IRL. (you weren't with us when we saw him at D*Con, were you?)

But my favorite part of the episode by far was Eleven's flailing hands when River was kissing him. SO FUCKING CUTE I CAN'T STAND IT.

Seriously, omg I almost started crying with the River line after the kiss. Seriously, killed me, KILLED. I cannot believe i how much I love the two of them together. Oh god.

Oh, and I yelled at the screen 'YOU CALLED IT AMY!' with the Canton 'one of us' moment. Died of joy.

And oh Rory, Bless. So glad and also sad that he remembers the 2,000 years. It's so good to have one's fanon feelings affirmed by canon.

EVERYTHING IS RIVER SONG AND NOTHING HURTS!

SERIOUSLY I DON'T EVEN CARE ABOUT THE FAILTACULAR IMPLICATIONS OF PERFECT REVERSE LINEARITY BECAUSE THEY SNOGGED. THIS IS VERY WEIRD FOR ME AND MUST BE LIKE WATCHING TELLY LIKE A NORMAL PERSON BUT WITH THE OBSESSIVE FACTOR CRANKED UP TO ELEVENTY.

Srsly though, the plot itself was spectacularly creepy and clever and much better than last week (even though I liked last week and all) and the reverse linearity thing literally cannot be true if they have ever had shared experiences like Jim the Fish and Easter Island, which River is clearly not shocked to learn about. My personal retcon is that "firsts" and "lasts" have special, bittersweet significance in this relationship because they're never sure if it's in perfect inversion and so that is River's fear. SO THERE.

The Ponds are currently my favourite couple in the universe! That's only a *slight* exaggeration (and it's absolutely true if I further define it as "my favourite straight couple on a current TV show"). So much love for Rory holding the device and knowing -- absolutely knowing -- that Amy can hear him and Amy knows he'll come for her.

And for Rory being all concerned about who Amy loves! (I thought she was talking about Rory, and then there's the "fell out of the sky" thing and I was all OH NOES! Amy can't love the Doctor -- she has Rory and Eleven clearly has River -- it'll be all wrong. But, no, it was Rory's "stupid face" and it was all right!)

That was adorable! I loved that there was a moment when he tried folding his hands behind his back, and then realised that didn't work and went back to mild flailing. So cute.
