oh, KIDS

So, er, as is traditional in times of academic crisis, I pick up a new and usually trashy TV show. On this occasion it has been The Vampire Diaries.

And, well.

I went from 'this is sooo not my thing but there are awesome girls so I will keep watching', to 'OMG OMG' *flaps* within the space of approximately two days. I don't even know.

I have just reached the end of 1x17, and oh, OH. OH, EVERYONE.

So, this is the part where a bunch of you say I told you so, I guess? *hands*

I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY IT'S SO GOOD. BUT IT'S SO GOOD. ALSO, ELENA GILBERT IS MORE AMAZING THAN EVERYONE, APART FROM BONNIE AND CAROLINE.

Oh god, yeah, I hear you there! I'm watching v. fast at the moment and sort of ignoring all the gender/class/race stuff that's making me uncomfortable, because yeah. BUT ALSO, SO ADDICTIVE.

That was pretty much my introduction too. I watched it for the pretty, and was kind of meh about it until like. . . sixth episode or so, and then suddenly I WAS SO INVESTED.

Caroline is the bestest thing EVER.

Two of my bestest friends are currently forcing me to sit through the early episodes with them (we have only seen three so far), but I'm glad to hear it's getting better. However, from what I've heard about the show so far, I'm also dreading the inevitable woobification of Damon Salvatore.

Oh god, I so don't need another show. But since I decided to stop watching True Blood, maybe I can rationalize that way! Important question: should I just skip the first couple episodes and get to the good stuff?

Hmm - it depends on your tolerance for teen drama cheese! I found the first few hilarious and oddly charming, despite not actually being much good, plus they establish plot things etc. Or you can just as well save time and read up on wikipedia or similar, depending on your preferences.

Aw yeah, I already read up a little on wikipedia before I watched the pilot. It's fun! And it doesn't hurt that the cast is easy on the eyes. :-D
