Via heathershaped on tumblr, an amazing video where two women perform the scene between Kirk and Pike at the start of the film. It's a fascinating idea on a gender meta level, and also really cool to see how the actors adapt the nuances of the original performances. Incredibly slick and smart all round!

That's fascinating. And it's so interesting to see how common the impulse is to turn male characters into women - because it's often the only way to get these sorts of female characters, and we want to see them!

Fascinating how differently the new!Kirk type reads when you cast a woman there, in that scene in particular; that particular kind of talking to, that validation of potential, is intriguing.
