Month of Awesome Women: River Song (Doctor Who)
"Records indicate you will show mercy! You are an associate of the Doctor's!"
"I'm River Song. Check your records again."
River Song
It's sometimes hard to believe that River has actually only been in six episodes of Doctor Who. But she is the kind of awesome that leaves a huge impression! Next series will also make her the longest-standing continuously appearing character on New Who that isn't actually the Doctor, which is cool. (All other companions have had a season off etc even if they do recur.)
I love River because she is such a rich and complicated character, and it is deeply rewarding to be a fan of hers. Each time she appears on the show we get different shades of her, but the writing and Alex Kingston's fantastic performance pull it all together and keep it fascinatingly consistent.
Like many of the women of Doctor Who, she excels at accomplishments like saving the universe, putting the Doctor in his place and being more amazing than is strictly reasonable. Her specific talents include expert time travel and flying of the TARDIS, sharpshooting, exuding a sense of sexy enigma, and being a bigger badass than everyone.
I can never decide whether I want to be her or marry her more, but EITHER WAY SHE'S AMAZING AND I LOVE HER. And I cannot wait to see where her story's going next.

Oh how fabulously and succinctly put!
River is hands down the most JOYFUL character I've ever had the privilege of fangirling. Of course it may all Fail Tomorrow, but honestly, she's just consistently amazing and has never let me down, not once. She's MADE OF MAGIC.
