rec me vids about robots!

So I'm hopefully going to be putting a vidshow together for Vidukon about ROBOTS. Is anyone able to rec me some vids on that subject? I am pretty covered for Battlestar Galactica, Sarah Connor Chronicles, and vids by charmax. I would love it if anyone knew of downloadable vids for older sources like Blade Runner, Star Trek TNG or Voyager, or the original Stars Wars films. Also bonus points for non-Western sources and AMVs.

Robots, androids, cyborgs and all other mechanical individuals are welcome!

There's an episode of Voyager season 2 called Prototype which is all about robots - I don't know of any vids for it except the trailer, which is on Youtube, but you can download it (and all the other eps!) here. There's also a scene from the Original Series with Kirk talking a robot to death - but again, that's not really a vid, just a scene posted on YouTube. :)

Turns out the first AMV posted on this curated show list is about robots! Also chagrined suggested some possible anime fandoms of the mech variety (there's more info on mecha fandoms on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mecha). You could probably look up the highly recced AMVs on animemusicvideos.org or check the ones that have won awards from those fandoms. I looked at the rec lists I have bookmarked and Starlady had this Neon Genesis Evangelion rec on this list (haven't watched it yet).

There's "Bionic," by Melanie Doane, which is all about ladies with superpowers and mechanical advantages. Maybe also Data's Dream, by GF, would work? Data is the frame-narrator in that one. Other interesting options that might be tangential to what you're doing, or might not be: "Half the Man," by Isagel (in its way, about assistive technology and how awesome it is) and "Around the Bend," by danegan, the ladies + cars/motorcycles/spaceships one from VVC this year. People/techology OTP!

Those are all multifandom vids. For single fandom stuff, there are a few good Sarah Connor Chronicles ones: Human Behavior by lithiumdoll and Does Cameron Dream of Electric Sheep by kiki_miserychic are both Cameron-centric and exploring her way of seeing; probably there are 8000 other T:SCC vids you could choose from, but I got tired of vids for that fandom and stopped watching. But you should look around on veni_vidi_vids or something, I bet there's lots (in addition to Unnatural Selection by Charmax, which you already know about).

Similarly there are a ton of BSG vids to choose from - I personally love heyiya's "love is the plan the plan is death" aka "Sons and Daughters" . . . it's an amazing re-imagining of the Cylon POV. Other than that, there are probably half a dozen by beccatoria and half a dozen by kiki_miserychic and half a dozen by obsessive24 that would all fit your criteria and be awesome.

When is the con? I ask because I happen to be making something right now that might fit the bill (it's gonna be very short and silly, less than a minute) and I'd happily give it to you to premiere, if I am able to have it done in time.

The con is happening in April, and the website tells me they want premieres submitted by February 27th. If you feel like that would be doable I would love to have your vid, whee!

I love that Merlin/Blade Runner fusion that [Unknown site tag] already recced. You might also get a kick out of wyomingnot's trailer for a Matrix/SG-1 story by troyswann: Operator. I think its very seamlessness makes an amusing point about all the visual cues and clichés art departments use in this genre.

I'd definitely rec GitSP (http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members/members_videoinfo.php?v=150657) by JCD, which is also up on youtube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYr8o9vnLN8 - it's possibly the most technically proficient vid I've ever seen, while also making meta points baout how the central character (a cyborg) changes.

This one's a bit left-field, but how about Slow Machines (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1knM87nLp_M)? I'm not quite sure if it counts as a vid or not.

The vidder describes this one as being simply an action vid, but the Transformers movie source isn't exactly heavy with plot itself: Amaranth (http://kj-svala.livejournal.com/145545.html?mode=reply).
