... and it's another white guy.

Still! Relative unknown! And haha, he's twenty-six, is the OG ON FIRE? I am not at all prepared to jump to conclusions and say that Doctor Who's going to turn into Coupling in Space now or anything, though I'm sure some people are. Only time will tell - and seriously, as a fandom we've all had to eat our words numerous times. I was SO SCEPTICAL about Billie Piper, eye-rolly about Catherine Tate pre-Runaway Bride, etc.

Also, I did see Matt Smith on stage in The History Boys and have memories of him being ace. I would like to rewatch Ruby in the Smoke now, I can hardly remember him in that!

Eleven! Woo! I have learned to embrace change almost unconditionally in this fandom, I think it's the way forward.

And now I retreat to my fortress, because the internet is somewhat terrifying!

I'm not sure what to do with a Doctor-actor who's younger than me, except think that he must've impressed somebody quite a lot somewhere along the line.

Also, it's fun to imagine what Donna would (WILL, FOR I AM HOPEFUL) say when she meets him again.

[identity profile] kalichan.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I have come to this fandom in order to learn how to embrace change. It is hard, but awesome. Yay!

[identity profile] lefaym.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know anything about this guy, but I'm certainly willing to give him a chance. Disappointed that they're not breaking with the "white dude" tradition though-- there are so many talented actors who are not white and/or male who would do such a great job.

[identity profile] lefaym.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, while I'm curious too, I want to savour these last few episodes with David Tennant as much as possible. *clings*

[identity profile] ressie-noldo.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I remain cautiously optimistic, despite oh no white guy, since, y'know, the thing that Who has its best track record on is casting.

BUT HE'S LIKE A SMALL CHILD. WHAT IS WITH THAT.

[identity profile] ressie-noldo.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Dear BBC: can I be the Doctor next? Yrs, me.

[identity profile] wanderlight.livejournal.com 2009-01-04 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
He looks like he belongs in a British rock band, omg.
But did you see the cute little finger-wiggle he did at the end of this video (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/7808697.stm)!

[identity profile] ressie-noldo.livejournal.com 2009-01-04 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
Omg no I didn't. I need to stop fancying Doctors.

[identity profile] cherryfeather.livejournal.com 2009-01-04 06:27 am (UTC)(link)
But they're just sooo fanciable.

(I think it's the ride, personally. I am playing totally to girl stereotype. Love the sportscar of time travel.)

[identity profile] ladygrey-lj.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it could have been a whole lot worse. I'm quite happy with him, even. I think he'll be lighthearted and funny, not very unlike Ten. I just hope they'll keep the romance to a minimum...

[identity profile] serpentpixie.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I just saw the interview with him, and he kind of grew on me - he's childlike as opposed to childish, I think. Anyhow, I'm reserving judgement until I've seen him.
I was more amused by Elisabeth Sladen's hair/outfit in the interviews with her :D

[identity profile] nekare.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I went a bit 'aww' at him and then saw his age and, okay, I WAS mildly freaked out. But! If anyone can pull it off is Moffat, right? HOPEFULLY?

[identity profile] kaydeefalls.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Who'd he play in History Boys?

I'm watching "Ruby in the Smoke" now - been meaning to download it for a while, since I love the books and, obviously, love Billie Piper - and you know what, I think I'm really gonna like this guy.

[identity profile] serpentpixie.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
ALSO, apparently he played for Leicester City as a kid, ANNND he studied Drama & Creative Writing at uni. He's pretty cool ;)

[identity profile] serpentpixie.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh. My. God. That's a terrifying thought right there :D Brilliant, of course, but terrifying :D

I wish my OG account weren't dead because I'm now awfully tempted to sneak a peek over there to see the wank reactions. I am mostly indifferent to the news and will settle for the "wait and see" strategy.

Sorry, you don't know me and neither does the OP (here from [livejournal.com profile] who_daily), but I had to say it:

Your icon. I think I'm in love with it. Is it gankable? If so, whom do I credit?

[identity profile] munditia.livejournal.com 2009-01-04 11:10 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, this icon is shareable. It was based on the Doctor Who wank bingo by [livejournal.com profile] nostalgia_lj and animated by [livejournal.com profile] smo@JF, so you should credit these two.

Thank you! :)

CURSE YOU BBC, THE VIDEO INTERVIEW IS NOT PLAYING ON THESE AMERICAN SHORES.

I am seriously okay with this. He looks fine, and anyway, the Moff knows what he's doing. Looks comfortable in front of the TARDIS, too. This could be a good thing!

(CANNOT. WAIT. FOR. JACK'S. REACTION.)

[identity profile] ressie-noldo.livejournal.com 2009-01-04 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm, I can watch said video interview just fine. Of course, northern California might not really be America.

[identity profile] cherryfeather.livejournal.com 2009-01-04 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
The one on bbc.co.uk/doctorwho isn't playing because of regional stuff. Didn't try the one on the BBC News site. -goes back to try again-

[identity profile] fairlilith.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)

Hurray for Eleven!

fkjdfjkdj you saw him in The History Boys???

I just died of jealousy. Please keep my ashes in a mini Tardis.

Yay! I guess! I'm no part of the fandom, but my flist and my Twitter are insane right now, so that's fun.

[identity profile] saint-claws.livejournal.com 2009-01-04 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
I'm hoping he's not being made young for the sake of pairing him up with future companions. I'm not totally unimpressed by him, and I've been very wrong before. So I am still hoping that we will be pleasently surprised.

[identity profile] cinnamon-sakaki.livejournal.com 2009-01-04 10:17 am (UTC)(link)
Haha he went to my university! If only I'd gone a few years earlier... He looks fun, I hope he's different enough to Ten though - it'd be impossible, and lame, to try to duplicate him.

I must admit that I am pre-anti this 11 because of the age thing. I wanted them to go older with this next Doctor. And they didn't. That's really all I have against him except his hair making him look like a fop so I am trying to reserve judgment. But really, 26? That's nearly as young as me! Hmm.... we'll see

[identity profile] sambethe.livejournal.com 2009-01-04 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
He strikes me as a adorable. I'm actually terribly curious to see what they do with him.

[identity profile] citharadraconis.livejournal.com 2009-01-06 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
The age thing actually makes me more confident in some ways that he'll be good, because Moff even said in the Confidential he'd been looking specifically for an older Doctor and did a total 180 after he saw Matt's audition. It takes some serious talent to change the director's whole vision of the Doctor, I think. Hopefully he'll be a bit calmer and "older"-acting than Ten was, which would make a great contrast with his youth. (And please, please no epic companion romance. I'd actually like to see two Companions this go-round, at least one male. I'll be interested to see the way the dynamics work out with Baby-Doc.)

Also I don't think he's quite handsome; he looks funny! But in a good way. Alien-ish. I do think the Doctor should be more odd-looking than handsome. Hope he cuts the hair, though, or he'll be too Ten-ish/goth-band-looking for me. And perhaps some eyebrows. And a steampunk outfit with top hat, please? I'd like to see him in old-fashioned clothing. [/shallow]

[identity profile] citharadraconis.livejournal.com 2009-01-06 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
Er, where by director I mean exec. producer. Yes. -_-
