Torchwood 2x04: Meat

I enjoyed this one a lot!

In summary, Ianto Jones, how are you so awesome? Because he really, really was in this one, from the smirky little grin in answer to Tosh saying they were all sad and single to his crazy stealth stun gun skills. ♥

Rhys was also great, and I hope this is a sign of more screentime for him in the future. I loved watching him come into the Hub for the first time and getting all excited about other planets, it was so nice to have a bit of optimism about alien life for once! Also, I liked Gwen a lot this time around, even though her dramatics make me a bit crazy, I enjoyed how much they emphasised that Rhys is amazingly important to her, not just as a person but as a symbol of the fact that she still has a life, and hasn't been turned into a clinical Torch!bot or anything. That being said, I thought they were all a bit harsh on themselves with the idea that just because they don't have any meaningful relationships with outsiders they are somehow lesser people - guys, you're quite busy trying to save the world, it's all right!

And oh, Jack. He had a few rather special moments this episode, didn't he? With the alien's inability to die and constant suffering obviously prompting a bit of his own immortality angst, and a huge amount of possessive behaviour over Gwen, pull yourself together, eesh! And also, Ianto is right there, being awesome, like I said.

Overall, a thumbs up from me, and next week's looks really, really super cool. AND THEN. The BBC, in their infinite wisdom, are showing Reset after, and what does that mean?

IT'S MARTHA JONES TIME.

Ianto's stealth beer drinking made me giggle so much! Yep, he's sad and single, really. *clears throat meaningfully*

I may have emitted some sort of noise only heard by dogs when he became gunman extraordinaire. How is he so awesome? How?

But, oh! Poor Tosh when Owen was being so unutterably dense. I wanted to give her a big squishy hug and a nice mug of tea.

The amount of RHYS!! that I felt in this episode cannot be quantified. I love him. Just, bless. He is his own special brand of awesome. With ice-cream on his chin! (He also kind of makes me think of Rodney, and I do not know why. But I do think an SGA/Torchwood crossover would be made of win. I mean Rodney can snark about the computers and annoy Tosh, John and Ianto can bond over their men, and Jack can meaningfully hit on everyone.)

Uh-huh. And also, there was the prolonged eyesex with Jack, which I also found entertaining.

I don't know! There should be studies! He's amazing!

Awwww, I know, my poor sweetheart. They had a nice moment at the end, though. Owen had better not go being mean to her any more, or I'll be having words.

Omg, the ice-cream on his chin. So cute! So refreshing normal and optimistic and loving, he's a breath of fresh air every time he's on screen. And I sort of know what you mean - they don't look entirely dissimilar, do they? And indeed, there would be huge amounts of win involved and I would very much like to read that! Because Jack would flirt with Teyla and Ronon would get growly and it would be awesome if Zelenka were there, because I think he might be rather fond of Myfanwe, and all in all I say yes!

I just loved him standing around being all cool and "yeah, we're having sex. It's cool." And I nearly died laughing when Rhys turned to Jack and was all "you're not gay by any chance are you?" The cat thought I'd gone bonkers.

I'd study for an Ianto Degree. I might even get a first.

I just love him. The way he's all nice and ordinary and sweet and over-protective, and how he just goes "cool, aliens. Right, how can I help?" There is no better man than Rhys.

Someone needs to write that! I did read one cross-over, but it was using the glove for nefarious purposes rather than snark and sexing.

Ianto is like- so awesome, we need to think of a new word for awesome. I love him to tiny, little pieces and then some. I'm so excited about Adam, I can't even put it to words- I'm a spoilerwhore and read all about it, so I know what's going to happen to Ianto and OMG ANGST!

But the thing that's kind of spoiling this season for me is the whole Jack/Gwen-thing they seem to be shoving under our noses every given moment. I don't get where it's coming from, all of a sudden- and I don't get how Gwen can be "BUT OMG ILRHYS" and then goes on to mentally undress Jack. And poor, poor Ianto, having to witness the UST between his lover and his friend. Also, how fantastic does that boy look in a white shirt?

And Rhys is like- Rhys needs more episodes. He's so cute and so Welsh. I loved the fight they had- so much Welshness!

So, yeah...

I thought I read somewhere that Martha's coming in during the last five minutes of Adam, so you might not have to wait 'till Reset for her :)

He transcends adjectives with his awesomeness! And a;sldkjas, from the trailer alone it looks like he's got some serious stuff next week, eeep! D: D:

Ehhhh, I don't know, it seems to be a bit weird every time - like, this time, I thought they were playing up Jack sort of pining after Gwen and it not being terribly requited, aside from the obvious Jack factor. Which bothers me a bit, but then that's quite like Jack, to have different kinds of affection for different people at the same time, so. I do feel bad for Ianto, though!

It was the most Welsh thing ever, so so great! And yes, moar Rhys, all the time, plz.

Yes! That felt very DW-first-time-companion-ish, didn't it? Very nice indeed. Not that I mind watching a show full of crochety and bitter old pros, of course, but it was nice to have that innocence, too!

And also, Ianto is right there, being awesome, like I said.

As a hopeless shipper, I couldn't help but be thrilled at how frequently these two were just *right there*, in that sort of comfortable close proximity. Of course, I am mental, and you could probably say that about ANY two characters on any given show, but that's what makes a shippers world turn 'round, no? :P And Ianto is redefining awesome.

I cannot WAIT until Wednesday!!

Indeed it did, it was lovely! And innocence is just it, which is why I think Rhys is actually quite an important character to have around.

Hee, I know what you mean - except that we're not mental because our ship is CANON, which gives me happy wriggles every time I contemplate that fact. :D That was always what drew me to Jack/Ianto in the first place, though, the way that Ianto's always hovering in the background and anticipating Jack's requests before he even makes them, and similarly Ianto is probably the first person Jack would ask about certain things, like his "do I show off?" line in this episode etc. Oh, I love their dynamic so much! ♥

Omg I loved the fight that Gwen and Rhys had at the house. He said everything I wanted to say to Gwen. It was just fabulous and I am so glad they got the chance to get it out!

Ianto was the over all awesome win. Saving himself after being the damsel in distress with the gun to him and all thing was rockin. Not to mention they "pray you survive" line and the stun to the head. Damn bad ass boy! *loves all over Ianto*

I was pissed with Jack for the possessive over Gwen at the end with Ianto right behind him. (Wait till you see my Torch-sticks tonight) I just wanted to scream "MAKE UP YOUR FUCKING MIND JACKBITCH!" Seriously, poor Ianto and shut the fuck up Jack. Gah!

But really, so glad to have lots of Rhys! And I felt so bad for the whale-alien. He was so cute but had to die! *sniff*

Indeed! I'm so glad that Rhys knows now, makes their relationship that bit more balanced.

Yes yes yes! Learn your lesson, petty criminals, Ianto Jones will end you with his little finger. :D

Ooh yay, Torch-sticks should make it all better, because honest to God. I love Jack, and being so frustrated with him right now is not a fun experience. :(

I know! Jack was the reason we all decided to watch Torchwood because he was so cool on Who and now he had his own show. I don't want to be mad at him who is supposedly the star of the show! (maybe not in my head since Ianto is my hero but whatev) He needs to stop being a dumb ass!
