HP prequel fic, what?

Man, the internet totally blew the surprise, JKR's writing me birthday fic! Yeah yeah, it's first seen the day before technically, but it's online on the 11th, so there you go! And it's about James and Sirius and everything. I am very amused and greatly looking forward to it; how badly can 800 words joss all our fanon anyway? ... wait don't answer that. (No, but seriously, I'm living in optimistic mode whereby I don't think this is really going to throw us any major curveballs.)

Inspired by the occasion, magnetic_pole has decreed that there should be 800_words: Use 800 words exactly, no more, no less, to tell us what happened in the years before Harry's birth. Stake your claim before unexpected new canon hits us! I'd love to contribute something, but um. In the process of being examined right now. We shall see. But fellow Marauder writers, go forth and flashfic away!

Beedle wasn't, but this is, and then there's the option later on to buy the collected authorial contributions from JK and other people.

honestly, 800 words is not much of a prequel. i'm frankly kind of surprised, given the incredible verbosity of the rest of the series- but i'm also kind of grateful, since i'd rather have my canon blanks nice and blank at this point, thanks. *g*

I love that JKR's doing this, I love that Neil Gaiman (to my recollection) is doing this, and I especially love that this'll be available in book form!

Yep! I couldn't remember where I'd seen info about Neil Gaiman's involvement, so I thought I was imagining it when all the JKR stuff really started popping up, but no! Proof!

I'm a little nervous that I won't come up with anything too interesting, but I love writing the Marauders, so it'll be fun even if it's rubbish. I haven't written any HP fic in a while, too, so that's exciting.

Ha. Jo can't stay away from the Marauders-era, because they're that cool. It would be better if more characters were included but it's only 800 words, practically a drabble, so I think it'll be something short and fun, while revealing something rather shocking that we didn't know.

I hope that shock value wouldn't be "Sirius is gay for James!" because Sirius is gay for Remus and James is straight :D

And oh I don't know, if that was canon that would be a bit awesome (I sort of ship them on the side) but somehow I really doubt it. There's only one gay in JK's universe, apparently, heh.
