This was far too much fun
From that Top 5 meme yesterday:
Five favorite pictures that you've taken
I only ever really take photos while I'm travelling, so!

Venice

Zante, Greece

Paris

Rome, just after the Pope died

Cape Point, South Africa
Top 5 comfort foods
-- toast
-- peanut butter sandwiches
-- vanilla ice cream & maple syrup
-- pasta
-- cheesecake
Top five guilty pleasures
-- cake mix straight out of the bowl
-- staying up until the sun rises
-- badly-written blockbusters with lots of special effects and tacky one-liners and Our Heroes blowing shit up
-- browsing 'real life' magazines when left idly around the flat
-- digging out the godawful music I used to listen to (why hello there, Avril Lavigne's first album)
Five favorite pieces of art
Err, I really don't do art, actually. This is a failing on my part and one I should redress. Sorry, Allie!
Five favorite nostalgic items that you own.
-- letters sent to me by my class in England after I'd moved away - a glorious snapshot of popular culture of 1998, as filtered through the minds of the very young
-- my trusty Winnie-the-Pooh teddy bear, battered and worn almost beyond recognition.
-- a blanket made up of cut up bits of t-shirts from old summer camps etc
-- an old creative writing notebook, full of a strange milieu of stories all written under my beloved Year Four teacher, who got me interested in writing in a way I wouldn't be again for years
-- a box of tacky jewellery, a remnant from the days of princesses and dressing up
Five things that you love to wear.
-- the obligatory Little Black Dress
-- jumpers over shirts
-- slippers
-- ridiculously long socks
-- hats of all shapes and sizes
Five things that represent your lifestyle.
-- my chirpy rainbow-striped teapot, always at the ready
-- my university bag, complete with badges along the strap and stuffed full with lecture notes, print-outs, folders, an umbrella, and my writing notebook for when I get odd momemnts
-- my noticeboard: current pin-ups include my deadlines for the semester (ugh), old gig tickets, and a montage of quotes written out on index cards, featuring Socrates to T.S. Eliot to I ♥ Huckabees
-- my purse, old and falling apart and stuffed with loose change and bus tickets and supermarket receipts
-- my all purpose notepad, which occasionally gets some gems on the same page - 'buy food!!!' next to a list of articles for my next seminar, next to a plot outline for an alien sex pollen fic (err, yes - iamsoashamed).
Five things that you could live without.
-- my flatmates. Haha. Hah. Um.
-- sleep - I mean, it's nice as a bit of a treat, but hours and hours every night is a tad inconvenient
-- pointless bureaucracy, which is currently out to get me in the form of a module that seems to consist entirely out of filling in forms, I swear
-- clothes shopping. For me, a lengthy, exasperating and often expensive process that I would love to never have to do.
-- The Internet. Oh wait. That is a total lie, I am forced to admit. I would not do very well at all.
Top five moments in your life
Ack, this is actually really hard! All I can really come up with are terribly trite things like passing exams, so I'm going to be flaking this one too I'm afraid.

Thanks to Time and Space for the screencaps, as ever.
5. The Doctor Dances
Everybody lives, Rose! Just this once! Everybody lives!
4. The Parting of the Ways
Rose: I looked into the TARDIS... and the TARDIS looked into me. I am the Bad Wolf. I create myself. I take the words; I scatter them in time and space, a message to lead myself here.
The Doctor: Rose, you've got to stop this! You've got to stop this now! You've got the entire Vortex running through your head! You're gonna burn!
Rose: I want you safe, my Doctor, protected from the false god.
Emperor Dalek: You cannot hurt me; I am immortal.
Rose: You are tiny. I can see the whole of time and space, every single atom of your existence, and I divide them.
Rose: Everything must come to dust. All things. Everything dies!
Emperor Dalek: I will not die! I cannot die!
The Doctor: Rose, you've done it. Now stop. Just let go!
Rose: How can I let go of this? I bring life-
3. Blink

The Doctor: People don't understand time. It's not what you think it is.
Sally: Then what is it?
The Doctor: Complicated.
Sally: Tell me.
The Doctor: Very complicated.
Sally: I'm clever, and I'm listening, and don't patronize me because people have died and I'm not happy. Tell me.
The Doctor: People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect... but actually, from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint, it's more like a big ball of wibbly-wobbly.... timey-wimey.... stuff.
2. Utopia

Jack: I'm the man who can never die, and all that time, you knew.
The Doctor: That's why I left you behind. It's not easy, just, just looking at you, Jack, 'cause you're wrong.
Jack: Thanks.
The Doctor: You are, I can't help it. I'm a Time Lord, it's instinct. It's in my guts. You're a fixed point in time and space, you're a fact. That's never meant to happen. Even the TARDIS reacted against you, tried to shake you off. Flew all the way to the end of the universe just to get rid of you.
[...]
The Doctor: Do you want to die?
Jack: Oh, this one's a little stuck.
The Doctor: Jack.
Jack: I thought I did. I dunno. But this lot. We see them out here, surviving, and that's fantastic.

1. The Satan Pit
Ida: What about you?
The Doctor: I believe-- I believe I haven't seen everything, I dunno. It's funny, isn't it, the things you make up, the rules. If that thing had said it came from beyond the universe I'd believe it, but before the universe? Impossible. Doesn't fit my rules. Still, that's why I keep travelling. To be proved wrong. Thank you, Ida.

Top 5 Jack/Ianto moments
5. From Dead Man Walking, hockeysticks!:

4. From Small Worlds:
Jack: You shouldn't be here.
Ianto: Neither should you.

(Oh hi there, Amy's hand!porn obsession with this ship, how nice to see where I encountered you first.)
3. From Fragments: (err, yes, insert the whole 15 minutes of Ianto backstory here, but especially this bit)

Jack: It's quite excitable!
Ianto: Must be your aftershave.
Jack: I never wear any.
Ianto: You smell like that naturally?
Jack: Fifty first century pheromones. You people have no idea. Ready for another go?
Ianto: I'm game if you are.
Jack: Three... two... one...
2. From To The Last Man:
Jack: This time tomorrow he'll be back in 1918.
Ianto: In his own time. Would you go back to yours, if you could?
Jack: Why, would you miss me?
Ianto: Yep.
Jack: I left home a long time ago. Don't really know where I really belong. Maybe that doesn't matter anymore.
Ianto: I... know you get lonely.
Jack: Going home wouldn't fix that. Being here, I've seen things I never dreamt I'd see, loved people I never would have known if I'd just stayed where I was. And I wouldn't change that for the world.

[or, to translate:
Jack: Ah, Ianto. Allow me to share some of my perennial existential crisis with you.
Ianto: Certainly, sir. And if you'd like to discuss how I'm just another person in a long sea of faces, you should feel free to do that.
Jack: Actually. What I was trying to say was, I really sort of love you, you know.
Ianto: Uh. Wait, really? Woah, ok. Can we make out now?
Jack: Sure thing.]

(my love actually does not know any bounds, seriously.)

I was going to say more, but I have been distracted by the Torchwood pic spam, especially the last one. :-)

And haha, jolly good, mission accomplished!

...and after that I was too distracted by the Torchwood picspam too, sorry. I LOLed at your translation of the TtLM scene.

I don't think I could do without sleep. I'm a very very bad sleeper so I think of it in this fond, endeared, way because I don't know it well enough to have become bored of it.

I am a big fan of the Fragments one as well as the "You shouldn't be here." "Neither should you."
Ok, fuck it, I'm a fan of ALL OF THEM!

That little exchange in Small Worlds has a very special place in my heart for being one of the very first bits we saw, and it sets up so much fanon for the ship which I just love. :D Oh, S1 Jack/Ianto, those were good times.
