"I'm not drifting. I'm waiting."

You know, one of these days this journal will have non-Whoverse related content, I swear. But that is not today.

Because eee, I was watching 'Everything Changes' again and I'd forgotten how much fun it is, the way they set up Torchwood as being so sinister and enigmatic and yet entirely irresistible, and how so many of the themes of the programme at large are introduced. It's fun going back and seeing the Gwen-Jack dynamic right when it first started, and Ianto being all smirky and mysterious and generally everyone being A+. Also, Rhys is far more fantastic right from the off than I remember. All in all, going back to Season 1 is most enjoyable when you know so much more about what's going on, and I haven't watched any of these episodes since the series came back. Highly recommended!

Anyway. Let's talk 'Exit Wounds' for a minute. A poll within, and spoilers, naturally.

[Poll #1166912]

I expect answers to 1 and 3 to pretty much sync up, obviously, but I thought I'd throw all angles in. I'm taking a stab in the dark and guessing more people are more upset to see Owen go, though Tosh's death may prove the more overall traumatic. For what it's worth, I'm all about the epic awesome of Toshiko and really am gutted that she won't be around next series. Woe.

Anyway, I'm recovering from the trauma, mostly, with the help of some good fic (see [livejournal.com profile] sam_storyteller's Nicholas AU dealing with this episode) and the reflection that why yes, they do all die young and the angst is sort of delicious in a macabre way. Still working on denial!fic, though. That and 101 other things, partly because you lot are evil. *glares appropriately*

And then there was Doctor Who. Eeeeee!!! I really have nothing constructive to add that hasn't already been said, just that I loved it to bits because Donna ftw and yay for the Doctor returning and realising he was a complete twit as far as Martha was concerned and then zomg Rose I must know what is happening! But yeah, that's really all I've got.

Hee! You loved Doctor Who too. I could not contain my squee. Especially for Donna being so awesome - I think she totally pwned the Doctor with the spying and then for the Martha mentions.

I really enjoyed the Rose appearance too - did the way they played the scene seem odd/creepy to you at all. The music really struck me as weird.

Also - I predict now that the missing 'B's and the lost planet will come back at some point and prove important. :D

The Doomsday music! It's just an echo of when they last saw one another... at the end of series 2. I am not a total geek, it just happens to be one of my favourite pieces of music :D

'B's or 'Bees'?

[identity profile] lorannah.livejournal.com 2008-04-06 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks. I knew it was familiar but not where from.

And I think "B's or bees" is the important question. :D

I had missed that there was a story about bees being missing. o_O But that would make sense.

So had I. :) But given that the Doctor did in fact comment on it, that could be a little hint that it's significant ...

I'm still mourning Owen... Gah. I loved his character and Burn was the best actor on the show. BOOOOO.

But ROSE!!!

And I liked that the Doctor recognized his part in the Martha debacle just like I was glad when Martha realized hers in The Last of the Time Lords.

While I chose Tosh as my favorite because I totally have the hots for her, I picked that I couldn't choose for your third question! Owen grew on me quite a bit this season. But I'm not devastated over either death; I think because I felt they were both really well acted and well written, it just left me feeling sad but satisfied, if that makes sense?

Very interesting poll! :)
Tosh's break made me cry a bit, I must say. Not as much as Owen, even though he was a definitely fascinating character in S2.

I loved Owen's character arc in S2 but I was more cut up about Tosh across the board because I think she's such a fantastic character, and I'm really going to miss her. Woe. I'd kind of worked out that Owen had to go at the end of this series because someone who can't heal after getting hurt isn't much use to the Torchwood team really.

Yay! Rhys! He was amazing.

I spent the whole of Doctor Who squeeing over the Adipose. If they ever release toys of them I am so buying one. So cute! And I adored all of the bits with Donna's grandfather.

I was trying work out what sort of explanation they'd have for the radiation working to bring Owen back properly to life.

Um, what's your icon of?

[identity profile] secondsilk.livejournal.com 2008-04-08 12:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I only watched Exit Wounds today.
I'm still in the anger stage of grief about it. I'm not sure whether I'm impressed or disgusted by the show.
Still, yay for the Tosh love, and I do look forward to reading Sam's fic.

Edited to use new Tosh icon.

I have started planning an AU series three where it was Ianto and Gwen who were killed. So now there's Jack, Owen and Tosh, and Andy and Rhys wandering around the streets chasing aliens.
