Claims now open!

[livejournal.com profile] lgbtfest's prompts are now available for claiming, from now until March 15th. With 901 prompts to choose from in a huge variety of fandoms covering all kinds of different subject matter centered around the experience of being queer in some way or other, this looks like it's going to produce some fascinating stories. Peruse prompts here, the calendar of posting dates here, and claim your prompt and date here!

I've snagged this, which is a story I've been meaning to write for ages anyway: Luna has always had as open, untroubled, and inquisitive an attitude toward sexuality as toward everything else, but other people aren't quite so accepting.

Exciting stuff!

OMG there were so many up there I wanted to do! I'm a bit upset there was no Cassie requests though cos I'd've loved to do that.

A few did yeah but in the end I went for a Mighty Boosh and an IT Crowd one, I'm better off sticking to actual fandom ones I think, there were sooooo many on my list at the beginning though.

This is very exciting! I just signed up. Because of course I can write a diss and fic. Never mind the fact that I haven't written fic in months.

Oh wow, how had I not heard of that fest before??

*claims* :)

Just encouraging, I think. (Things are busy in RL right now.) But I'm excited to see how many other people were interested and happy to see so many different prompts. As I was saying to [livejournal.com profile] rose71, it's good to have a place to discuss issues that might seem too sensitive elsewhere (and ironically, I don't think slash comms are necessarily the more comfortable places to write about queerness). Should be fun! M.

Wow, thanks for the links; I just went and requested a Supernatural prompt.

Do you have a posting day yet?

To answer your other comment: it's all manner of shiny! I love that it's an interfandom challenge, I really love that it's GLBT-themed, and I love that I'm probably going to take part for once (I usually miss them). Hurrah!

April 27th's a good date; it gives you the rest of this month and most of the next to get it written. As you probably saw, I requested May, but mostly because of school writing, Script Frenzy writing, and the fact that it'll give me some time to let the story sit before I have to post it. :)

To answer this comment: thanks! I was hoping there'd be a prompt in the SPN area that would allow me some femmeslash room, and not only does that one allow for it, but it also leaves it open for a lot more, I think.

I'm really REALLY looking forward to your fic, though. HP femmeslash is one of my favorite things ever, and I don't read many stories with Luna. Plus, you're a great writer. :D

What I think are great about these prompts -- or the ones I was looking at in particular -- is that they are more gen-friendly. I've written plenty of pairing-specific stuff in my day, but I'm more comfortable with gen, and it's more flexible in some ways. These prompts are also really well-planned, so that's exciting.

There's no freaking way I'd write about queer hunters and not include lesbians! Hunting seems to me like a male-dominated field, so I don't think it's much of a leap that there'd be a high proportion of lesbian hunters. I bet gay male hunters would be more likely to be closested, too, so really, there's a bunch of interesting avenues to explore.

Script Frenzy's like NaNoWriMo, only it's for various forms of scripts (from movie to play to comic) and it takes place in April. I'm doing a webcomic script, and since I only have to get 100 pages, it's not going to be taxing enough to keep me from dabbling in another project. But probably only one more. ;)

I feel you on the Luna gaydar. Maybe it's because she has a mysterious air to her? Ambiguity seems to be a big factor in gaydar on my end.

Oh man, I'm tempted to do the Corny Collins one, but I've never written for Hairspray before. Do you think I should do it?

[identity profile] marauderthesn.livejournal.com 2008-03-09 04:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I did it. :D I've been wanting to write "Corny is gay" for a while. Thanks for telling me about this whole thing! ♥
