Avengers Bruce/Tony recs

Ah, my shiny summer fling fandom and my shiny summer fling ship. ♥ SCIENCE BROS ♥

(I think my shipping feelings re. the Avengers can be summed as a) everyone/everyone, b) Tony/Bruce(/Pepper), c) Steve/happiness, and happiness, sometimes thy name is Natasha, d) Natasha/people who appreciate her, and e) did I mention the everyone/everyone? So there's that.)

Anyway! Tony and Bruce! They delight me, and the fic is great. Here are some I've recently enjoyed.

Stark, A.E., and Banner, R. Bruce. (2013). "Biodosimetric Tools for Measuring Induced Isomeric Transition in Inverted Paired States." International Journal of Radiation Biology 89.9, 43-85. by thingswithwings (explicit, Tony/Bruce, Tony/Hulk, with Tony/Pepper in the background, 17000 words)

"And so," Tony concludes triumphantly, "you owe it to science, to yourself, and to the people of New York City to have tons of hot awesome monster sex with me."

This is so great. First there's the title, and it just keeps on being genius from there. What I love most about this is the fact that it's about how when Tony's into someone, he's really into them, every part of them and everything they are and this story does a great job of showing how much he enjoys both Pepper and Bruce and everything about them. (The characterisation of Pepper in this is particularly excellent.) And although this story is demonstrably about Bruce Hulking out during sex and Tony being super into that and the two of them figuring it out, it's also about Bruce's relationship with the Other Guy in a more general sense, and it works really well. <3

Bruce visits Tony and Pepper. They're very hospitable.

"Were you worried?" Tony says. "That's sweet. That is always so adorable when the big guy worries about me."

The inside of Tony's brain is both slightly alarming and completely entertaining, and no more so than in this story. :D

It isn't that Tony doesn't like Bruce. It's just that he also has a few fantasies about the other guy.

I love me a good talking out a fantasy story, and this one is particularly great.

Hulk: Puny avengers! They get in Hulk's way. Except iron one. Hulk like iron one: he's shiny and pretty in the sky.

What do you eat in an average day to maintain your 1,500 pounds of body mass?

Hulk: Hulk like pasta—sometimes too much! also big steaks, broccoli, legumes ... Hulk not eat Captain America's Nazi-alien nemesis! That rumor started by puny Stark.

omg, you like Steve/Natasha? I LIKE STEVE/NATASHA. Their moment during the final battle--"sure, it'll be fun," and Steve's face as he watches her go--is one of my very favorite in the whole movie. I want everyone to ship it.

I doooo! It started out on the basis that they're my two favourites, so having them both in the same story is all to the good, but then throw in angsty undercurrent of Winter Soldier backstory or Steve's thing for super competent women etc and I am THERE.

What I realized, after wanting it for a few days, is that I think she reminds him of Bucky. I don't think *he* realizes that at first, he just...responds. She's a little more opaque to me but I think after they've fought aliens almost to the death, she respects him, and he's just so--impossibly good, but not at all false or manipulative or anything but just...good. And he likes her, and that's good too. Disturbingly simple and easy enough to put her teeth on edge, but good.

Ohhhh how I love them. I also dig it as a threesome with Clint (because omg BROMANOVS) but I really believe in the pairing on its own merits.

...I will never tire of pulling out dreadful comics quotes when people talk about Avengers fandom. ALSO NATASHA IS KIND OF AMAZING ALL THE TIME.

I love the Tony/Bruce(/Pepper) ship SO MUCH! It is the best thing that has happened to my corner of fandom in a long time. <3333

*tilts head* You know, I feel a bit weird about putting the "/Pepper" part in parenthesis, because I don't think of it as any less important, although I do do it to indicate that I won't mind stories that are just about Tony and Bruce. And I personally don't want Tony/Bruce/Pepper so much as Tony/Bruce + Tony/Pepper, that is to say, the open V relationship where both Pepper and Bruce have sex with Tony, but not with each other, and possibly they all also occasionally have sex with other people, but the V is their basic arrangement. Indicating your specific ship preferences when your ship is polyamorous gets pretty complicated. *g* But, anyway, that's how I see them and write them.
