So there are Doctor Who spoilers everywhere at the moment - twitter, tumblr, Doctor Who Magazine covers, media articles, interviews with Moffat, etc etc. And that's not including all the additional spoilers that will presumably start surfacing after the press screening last night. So if you're trying to go into the new series completely unspoiled, I salute you, but I warn you you're going to have a hard time. I'd also like to apologise again for thoughtlessly spoiling a few people through @replies on Twitter yesterday, and will in general be keeping this off my own twitter from now on.

OKAY EVERYONE. I will admit that I, too, freaked out when first reading Moffat's pronouncement of 'ONE OF THEM IS MARKED FOR DEATH IN THE FIRST EPISODE' or whatever, but we're clearly being trolled here. This is Doctor Who, nothing is ever that simple.

And, more to the point, there are set pictures of all four of them filming other episodes. None of them are bowing out at the beginning of the series and not coming back! Eleven, Amy and Rory are all together in the pirates episode and Neil Gaiman's episode, as demonstrated by clips shown at cons, set pictures, interviews with Gaiman, etc etc etc. I'm a little less clear on where what's come out with River fits into the timeline, but I highly doubt she's going anywhere.

Whether things are going to end happily for all four of them by the end of the series in the autumn is, of course, another question, but for now I recommend keeping calm and carrying on! Moffat is a lying liar who lies and also enjoys winding us up. I don't believe a word of it.

I confess the thing that most confuses me is that they've dyed Rory's hair???? It's definitely darker in several of those pictures. But I didn't see it looking darker in any of the trailers.

My wildly speculative guess? They're going to open up the multiverse again. Permanently. I'd like to think they're bringing the Time Lords back too, but I don't want to hang my hat on that.

MARKED FOR DEATH LOL. I hope somebody *is* marked for death, because that means SOMEBODY IS TRYING TO KILL THEM, which is always exciting. Not, you know, that somebody succeeds. PRECISE LANGUAGE, PEOPLE. <33333333

Ugh, it needs to be Easter time NOW. I need the Doctor Who adorableness in my life! All of it! At least we get the show on BBCA the same time y'all get it over there. \o/

(But that does mean I'm going to spend all of my spring weekend evenings glued to the TV. Thursday through Sunday, every week, WHAT.)

See, I argued exactly the same thing about CoE. I'm not going to let myself go through that again. Maybe I'm wrong, but the cost of being optimistic is too high.

And regardless of what actually happens, I am so sick of the feelings of fans being treated like toys.

[personal profile] fannishnonsense speculated on twitter that it might be future!Amy that dies, and the more I think about it the more it makes sense that it might be a future version of one of them that dies: it solves the "we know they're all in later episodes" thing and sets up a driving plotline for the season. And I think Amy might be the most likely candidate because we know how River dies, the Doctor would just regenerate and they're getting close to their limit on how many times they can kill Rory before it starts getting silly.

Of course I am generally terrible at predicting things so the above is probably way off! But I'm pretty certain you're right and we're not losing anyone permanently in episode one.

I think some of the things in those articles have been pretty direct. If what has been said is true, it's devestating and cruel, just for the sake of "shock". If it's a lie, it's still cruel, though less devestating.

And it is the being played with that upsets me more than anything. It shows such a lack of respect -- and honestly, I didn't expect that from Moffat.

I feel I should point that River has already died. And that the Doctor has died several times. Their ability to handwave inconvenient deaths continues?

Hee, yeah, I've seen those, but - well, every one of those characters has already died at least once, sometimes twice, and, like, a dozen times in the Doctor's case. And, because apparently many people have already forgotten, the whole arc of the previous series was about the entire universe dying, but it wasn't permanent.

So it is entirely possible that somebody really dies! I can't wait to see what they do. :D

Given Moffat's "Everybody lives!" obsession, and his statement that "Babes don't die" ... well, I have my theory. We shall see!

On a tangenial note, I follow Benjamin Cook on twitter (because he is delightful) and he tweeted that he was going to the screening, and if anybody wants to remain unspoiled they'll have to live under a rock until the series airs. Then immediately retweeted someone saying "You need to see these episodes unspoiled!" I facepalmed. Why do I have to avoid the entire world for at least a year just to watch this show unspoiled grumble mumble different in my day mumble /grumpy old man

Yeah but Moffat also said that in the cliffhanger episode 7, three characters' lives are changed. By the death of a fourth?

Plus we already know how River 'dies' so it's not going to happen at all in this series!

And can I say, you know more spoilers than I do! Helps to be in America a bit I suppose. I think I may be under the Who rock a bit just because I haven't been about the fandom much so I haven't been seeing it!

Thank you! :D

I'd be inclined to think it wouldn't be the Doctor in that scenario, just because the audience knows there's no way he'd be killed off permanently (whereas Amy or Rory could be (NOOOOOO!)), but on the other hand, it would be unexpected...
