links and things!

Okay, there is a conversation going on in a part of fandom that is upsetting me enormously. (Not helped by the fact that the argument's all centred around something I've been anxious about for months now.) But, this is not a post where I'm going to talk about that! Instead, here are some links to cool stuff.

+ I have been watching lots of Avatar: The Last Airbender lately. GUYS. THIS SHOW. IT IS GREAT. The characters are adorable and there are awesome girls and characters with disabilities and a really enjoyable plot and cute animals and I love it. Just about to start season 3! Anyway, [personal profile] eruthros made loads of great icons.

+ [livejournal.com profile] kinkelot is having an amnesty challenge, where you can go and make things for any of the previous nine themes. It'll be running for the rest of the month. \o/

+ Doctor Who post-finale recs!

Waiting by [personal profile] pocketmouse (Rory, G)

RORY. *___*

Vita Longa by [personal profile] copperbadge (Rory/various, PG-13)

This made me squee like crazy, omg.

The Care and Feeding of Tiny Humans (and slightly larger Time Lords) by [livejournal.com profile] netgirl_y2k (Eleven, Amelia, PG)

TOO ADORABLE TO HANDLE.

Scenes From the Wedding Album of Ms. and Mr. Pond by [livejournal.com profile] loneraven (Rory/Amy, Eleven, G)

This is absolutely beautiful.

The Time I've Spent by [personal profile] rheanna (Rory, Eleven, G)

Pitch-perfect characterisation.

After the Racebending disaster, I too bought the first season of A:tlA. I have watched two or three episodes so far, but it hasn't really gripped me yet. Which is a pity because I dearly WANT to like it -- I shall have to try again soon. (Possibly not immediately when I'm tired and cranky and thus not open to new stuff in general.)

Thank you for the fic recs! OMG, do I need them right now.

It does get better! (The season 1 finale is actually one of my all-time favorite finales.) But as you say, not all things hit you at the right moment. I would at least give it through the Winter Solstice two-parter in s1 when you try again, though; I have been told that a lot of what's good in the show came from the showrunner and not the creators, and it took a while for him to get more control.

Anyway, good luck!

Wow, obviously I've missed something.

But seriously, I'm just here for the Avatar love! Isn't it WONDERFUL? The Love of My Life and I have just started season 3 and are loving it. Which is good, because certain plot developments in season 2 were very traumatic...LOVE this show!

Avatar is awsome in its wonderfulness! I am so happy to see so many people enjoying it -- partially because, as a parent of a young kid, I didn't think it was something I'd ever get to share with other grown ups. I love the characters, they are so rich and well done and it feels so good to watch something with the kid that he loves and I don't cringe or feel I need to ruin it for him be giving him lectures on issues of oppression as he watches it.

Thirding what Zahra and Amy have said! The second half of the series is when the plot and character development really start to ramp up.

Avatar! I'm so full of love for it, always.

And I don't even know WHICH fandom you are talking about, so. XP

You're watching season three now? Eee! I finished a rewatch of the whole shebang in May and I'm still bursting with love.

Looks like I'm going to have to break down and watch Avatar. I'm hearing all kinds of great things about it. I've never been that interested in animated media, so this will be a a bit of a stretch for me, but several people have highly recommended it.

Thanks for the tip! When I try again, I will do my best to wait until those two episodes before I decide whether to watch it all or not.

Cheerful and fun sounds good to me. And it has also crossed my mind that, if I should really not like it after all, I could give the season boxset to my niece and nephew and try to get them hooked. Even if it shouldn't grip me, they could get some quality entertainment for kids.

Thanks for chiming in. I shall definitely give the show another try.
