Doctor Who 5x06 & Legend of the Seeker 2x20

Doctor Who

THAT WAS PRETTY GREAT. Rory! He was delightful! And I am so pleased that the whole Doctor-Amy-Eleven dynamic was dealt with in a sensible, honest kind of a way. Also, Amy really does love Rory, and he gets to be a member of Team TARDIS right through into the next two-parter, and my fears of it turning into the Rose/Mickey situation are assuaged. :D

Amy continues to be the greatest thing in the history of ever, and I love Matt Smith's physicality so much. And next week looks awesome.

But, yet more dead black characters, which is both disappointing and unnecessary. Stop harshing my squee, show!

Legend of the Seeker

CARA. D: D: D: D:

... I'm sorry, some other stuff to do with the plot happened in the episode, I think? BUT MOSTLY CARA IS A BIG DAMN QUEER TORTURED HERO AND I LOVE HER. *____________*

Because I saw quite a lot of the promo pictures before the episode aired, I was worried that girlkissing would only occur post-breaking and thus be framed as evil, BUT NO. I was wrong! The whole Cara/Daliah thing was much more interesting than that. \o/

IN SHORT, I LOVE MY SHOWS.

I am incoherent with glee and grief. She is a big damn queer tortured hero, correct.

Rory was also for the win.

IS IT SATURDAY YET?????

Thiiis. I asked the last time if the show producers/writers/casters/whomevers just. don't. notice. or get how bleeding obvious it is to us. I highly doubt it's intentional racism, but the degree of implicit racism and complete and utter ignorace/apathy/thinking they're above it all is rather astounding. What, you maybe Queen Elizabeth the somethingth black, so you can kill off all the other black characters? Excuse me?

Gah. I agree - the show is v. much harshing on my squee. There is so much good, and then TOTAL FAIL is making it hard to be completely in love!

AMEN. It's too obvious to miss, which means the conclusion that they just don't care is unescapable. And it really does interfere with my ability to enjoy.

re: dead black characters, I dunno. They are the first ones this season under the new regime, which is actually good going compared to before. Also, they didn't turn out to be evil, so that's another plus point. I really do think it's way better than before, and too early to call this a pattern. I want to give Moffat the benefit of the doubt at this stage.

I don't think Amy is romantically in love with the Doctor, but I'm not convinced that she feels that way about Rory either. I get a vibe that she sees him more as her best friend than someone she is passionately in love with. I'm just not sure.

The racial elements of Doctor Who are bugging me too. I also find it sad that they have the entire human race from every era to pick from and it seems like we only see people of African and European heritage. We saw some Asian women in the Chinatown of Turn Left, but that was stereotype city. No one else comes to mind. It gives me the feeling that white people are the default characters, with some black ones thrown in for the sake of diversity. That's not very diverse in my opinion.
