You can disable pingbacks on an individual entry (at least, I think you're supposed to be able to, I haven't tried it), so you should be able to avoid getting pinged to death by a post with dozens of links to your own entries. My inner vanity googler is strong, so I'm liking the feature so far (and hope they eventually extend it to more than just Paid Accounts).
