Even in the Supernatural fandom, where it seems like everything is Sam/Dean or J-squared, there's a notable amount of gen written most days. And I'd be willing to bet it's similar for HP. Those are the only fandoms I'm super familiar with, but I think you're right.

From what I can tell, Radiohead does seem consistently good; I have tracks here and there from Pablo Honey to Hail to the Thief.
