some people are more attracted to fandoms where they feel a need to 'fix' things rather than things where the source canon is stellar already.

Yup, exactly those things. I mean, takes something like Battlestar Galactica, which I loved -- I just never had the urge to write about it. I mean, I'm sure there were plot holes and stuff in there from time to time, and there were occasionally things that I didn't like (esp. in the finale), but on the whole I just didn't feel the need to tweak it.

I guess the really difficult thing about Torchwood at the moment is that CoE basically said "You'll never get anything CLOSE to the show you want, ever again." :(
