In which I am extremely fond of everybody
Let it never be said I do not leap upon bandwagons. (How do you think I got into any of my fandoms in the first place?)
I would not be writing fiction at all were it not for the help and enthusiasm I received from the people who read my decidedly mediocre fanfic in my early days of fandom. I remain enormously grateful to those kind souls to this day, especially as some of them continue to put up with me now. *g*
Fandom has given me such a lot that the idea of expecting anything back from all of you is entirely bizarre. I post things because I hope that someone might find the content interesting, or happy-making, or enjoyable in any sense. If they take the time to hit reply and tell me so, that is a welcome and added bonus, and I'd hate to think that anyone ever felt obligated to drop me a single line. I'm thrilled to hear from anyone at any time, but I post in hope, not expectation.
I'm consistently delighted and honoured by the notion that someone would like to read my stories, or to link them to their friends, or to add me to their friendslist, and so on. I'm as pleased by my lurkers as I am by my serial commenters -- the fact that anyone might find something they like in the course of stopping by is the entirety of the reason why I'm here and posting in a public setting. I want to share, and to interact, not to receive. The span of people's lives and habits is far too diverse and complicated for me to impose any sort of standard or demand on any of you, and so all of the time that you give me, in any capacity, is much loved.

ANYWAY. i completely agree with your statement that you post in hope, not expectation. of course everyone posts in the hopes that they get at least ONE comment; that's the nature of posting fic for public consumption, after all. but the notion of anyone laying down demands for comments or anything of that nature? absurd.
also? you're stuck with me and my comments for the foreseeable future. ♥

and thanks for being lovely and also gracious rather than demanding/insecure. it sends good vibes all around.

Exactly, what you said! I always hope I'll get a response when I post something, but if I don't then it's because whatever I wrote sucked, or it was about something people don't care about, or it was on a day where everyone was busy, etc etc. It's never because I lost out on something I ought to be entitled too, good grief!

*clings and doesn't let go* :D

So thank you for hanging in there with me, and thank you also for having such a positive attitude in terms of your own stories and fandom involvement. Reading about BNFs who delete their journals simply because they don't feel like their six-hundred followers are commenting enough makes posts like this even better.

Thank you for dropping in. :D

I always wanted to write but never quite sat down to it after university. Fandom gave me the impetus to experiment and the courage to put my writing out there, and I am so very grateful to it (and especially those people who encouraged me right at the beginning) for that. Anything else is a bonus. :)

I had no idea anything was happening before now, but the fact that someone's made people feel the need to make posts like this, when it should be a given, is ridiculous. Good grief.

My fic's in the Supernatural fandom, which is probably unsurprising. Dean's FtM, and this is the first time I've written a trans character, so I'm excited and nervous all at once.

anyway, the good thing about these posts: they are sort of poking at that love-letter-to-fandom idea in my brain! \o/

And, well, *flail*. I am so thrilled by how many trans and genderqueer stories are out there already, a mere few days into the fest. \o/ And Dean as FtM especially just makes me wriggle with glee a little bit.

Yay! I am very much looking forward to that.

boggles the mind, really.
but what's worse are all the people apologizing to her for... not giving her her daily quota of adulation?

I'm glad I've gotten to know you. And you've said some very sensible things here. I know there are times when I wish some things I created got more feedback, but I don't let it be a reflection on myself or my friends; it just is what it is (and usually, what it is is a very rarepair or small fandom). Enjoying making it and having friends who may or may not comment on it is what's worth it.

As a big-time lurker and small-time commenter, this has actually prompted me to want to comment more - because it's authors like you that I want to talk with. So, I'm using all of this ... mess as a personal kick-in-the-rear. I've had you friended for ages and only comment sparingly, which is a travesty because clearly not only are you lovely, you're also sensible. Which, I'm finding, is rare here on the internets.
So mostly I just wanted to say hi! and that this post is wonderful, and I hope you'll forgive my meandering thoughts!

I love you for making posts like this, Amy. You are truly wonderful. :)

All of which is to say that fandom is a fantastic place because people like you give without expectation of return and I wish that everyone could see it that way.

That's exactly it - we wish things to do well, especially the things we work our hardest on, but if that's the only reason we do anything it's only a set up for disappointment and not having fun any more.

Yes, this! Focus on the comments you do get, you know? They are precious things.
And thank you for writing such lovely stuff for us in the first place, it's always a pleasure. ♥!
