Torchwood 2x08: A Day In The Death

I loved this, I really did. Torchwood, what is with this consistent quality? I do not understand, but moar plz!

* The pre-title sequence was fantastic - could have been cheesy, but I thought they really pulled it off. Oh, Owen, and since when did I ever think I'd type that?

* So Ianto uses alien machinery to make the coffee? Awesome! And that scene with him and Owen was wonderful, and like I've seen mentioned elsewhere, made me think of [livejournal.com profile] paperclipbitch's fic like crazy, which is both odd and kinda cool.

* Ok, so. What the heck is up with Jack these days? This episode, he's giving Owen a really hard time, letting Gwen do everything for him, seemingly having no time for anyone but Martha. Not cool, Harkness, not cool at all. Last season it was different because Jack's behaviour was all for a Reason and whatnot. Now, his own desperate plan to save an employee's life doesn't quite work out like he planned and rather than being supportive he just shuts off completely? Pfft. It seems rather unexplained and unnecessary. I think that really is my only complaint for this episode.

* Tosh ranting about work was unexpetedly awesome - see, resident geek with added personality! She was lovely throughout this episode - not hiding her feelings but not giving Owen a free ride either. And that scene right at the end when she gets him to talk to her was all kinds of wonderful. I liked that it wasn't some sappy resolution of the plotline that's been bubbling, just that she cared about him and he was willing to let her do that. ♥

* I enjoyed the exploration of the implications of Owen's new condition - it's so bizarre yet interesting. They love being morbid and kinda existentialist, don't they? And I love them for it!

* Right, this is a really odd observation, but did Owen's mission into the house remind anyone else of a computer game? I don't know what it was, something about the way it was filmed, maybe.

* Oh, Owen, again, being a big hero and talking down the security guard and generally being awesome.

* Unexpected Richard Briers! The scene between the two of them was wonderful. And yes, Tosh does indeed have very nice legs. Owen's inability to give CPR was really tragic, and a nice way to emphasise just how much he's lost.

* I think that I would have liked the scenes on the roof being intercut with the story more if there wasn't something about the other actor that bothered me. No idea what it was, but she just didn't sit quite right even though I enjoyed the idea.

* My dormant Jack/Martha shipper had a fun outing at the end! Just because everyone else has had a go, and mutual saluting and cheek-touching and eee. ♥

Jack wasn't very nice, was he? But a friend of mine pointed out that everyone deals with guilt and grief differently, so perhaps he was just sort of lashing out? *puzzles* I personally just think they need a little more unibrain amongst the writing team.

I liked, too, overall! Yes, this consistent quality is catching us off-guard a bit, eh? :P

This was the best episode by far. They're really picking up with it. And yes, oh, Owen...

I love Owen.

"... I am literally too cool for school."

Yes, fic will no doubt explore Teh Issuez. Got anything cooking? I'm doing a short ficlet about the Owen-Ianto scene. :)

Well, perhaps next week won't be quite as grown up... judging by the preview? There's going to be some camp there!

Hee. My Owen/Ianto shipper was squealing all over this episode - there love is so snarky and unexpected. And other than Tosh and Martha he really did seem to be the main person trying to help Owen get himself back together - what with the 'are you really going to let this beat you' and I thought the Tin Tin comment was purely a way to disperse the awkwardness that construed from Owen joining the meeting. Am utterly confused about Jack being so useless and also about why Owen couldn't be a hub-bound member of the team. Also, I'm struggling to remember what Gwen did this episode.

My Tosh/Owen shipper was pretty damn happy too. Aww.. Tosh.

And I can't get over that I now love Owen - how strange

They're really going to have to work on the specifics of dead!Owen - he can talk, which requires breath, but can't give CPR - but overall I love, love, love this plot arc - especially the if you break your bones, you bought it stuff (although I'm pretty certain there will be no bruising as he has no circulating blood - bad Martha). Also I think that Owen was a little preemptive about getting rid of ALL his toiletries - he may not need moisturiser anymore but he's still going to get dirty and I think it would be a good idea to brush his teeth occasionally whether he's eating or not.

I thought Maggie's plot was a little overblown and pushing the emotional buttons too hard.

But seriously I loved this episode so much more than I expected to from last week's trailer, which made me think Owen was going to go rebellious on us. It was oddly uplifting for Torchwood.

Also - my moneys on Fake!Jack in next weeks trailer. I may be sorely disappointed.

Arrghhh. I forgot to mention Richard Briers, who was so wonderful. I know he had a name, but I don't remember it - possibly because I was squealing in delight - I love him (in a non creepy, sexual way, obviously).

Owen certainly doesn't do stuff by halves - and although I thought Jack was stupid to shoehorn him into it - I got an inordinate amount of pleasure from him as the incompetent 'teaboy'. I am wondering how much my newfound love of Owen is also (at least partly) from having seen interviews with Burn Gorman - very gentle and considered and intelligent (a Ravenclaw methinks)- but also because he's a lot nicer this season obviously.

With Maggie - I have a feeling that they fell in love with that visual of her in her wedding dress covered in blood on the motorway - which just didn't work for me, particularly as the rest of the episode had a lot more subtle, I kind of would have preferred it if her reason for suicide had been more mundane - I am just strange.

That was exactly how I read the trailer - and this was so much better.

Yep - I'm also thinking that Gwen is being affected by alien bite, pregnancy hormones - so not in control.

Can't wait for episode 10 :D - maybe they have to postpone the wedding??

Oh I am loving this Owen plot line (despite last week). It is very interesting and so very Torchwood.

And the conversation with Ianto and Owen over the coffee made the episode for me. Seeing Ianto all prideful about coffee basically made a million fanfics fact. Plus I liked the competition comment and just oh wonderful all around with that talk!

And oh the unability to give CPR thing so was just poingent! I mean I hadn't thought of that either and I was all 'ohhhhhhh!' Very sad and just adds another layer to he really is dead!

oh and yes I think Jack's characterization these past few have been so crazy and polar and out of wack and I am liking him less and less, which is bad because i want to like him. But the fact that I LOVE Ianto and way I see Jack treating him makes me angry may have something to do with it

*skips all the spoilers*
You know, I don't upload the TW episodes from you, but what you do is truly wonderful. Thanks a lot for sharing this with all of us. :)))

And it's all your fault if I love TW now, can you believe it? ;D

Wow - I completely managed to post in the wrong place last time (obviously it was the excitement of Torchwood).

He is marvellous though, I remember him especially from those halcyon days of early Monarch of the Glen before it jumped the shark.

It was already a sinking ship, but I stuck with it until Hector died - could never be the same after that.

And I like him being a Claw - ours, plz! :D

:D I think I'd sort everyone into Ravenclaw if I could get away with it (I'm clinging to Ten - no one can take him away from the tower).

If they kill Rhys I will never get over it. I'm just saying.

I was thinking about this and if they killed Ianto I would be heartbroken but as long as they did it well, I would get over it - but yep the idea of killing Rhys, is absolutely unforgivable. And actually my main hatred of most Gwen ships, is that she's screwing Rhys over again. I love him.
