Seeking Tolkien recs!

I've loved The Hobbit & LotR since I was very small, and have seen the films countless times, but never really ventured into the fandom at all. The recent resurgence of interest has made me want to explore a bit! Any fanworks, any characters. Things you've made yourself, existing rec lists/bookmarks, anything would be lovely.

Particularly interested in: vids, fic, icons, anything women-centric, team/ensemble-y things, anything that's not too unrelentingly bleak, also Legolas/Gimli because tumblr's given me a serious case of the feelings there.

Five incidents which required the Doctor’s intervention; in which the Doctor is somebody’s best man and sort of a nanny, Jenny discovers Harry Potter and Strax does not like when his mothers comrades are fighting.

Completely adorable, with some lovely guest appearances.

It's NYE, and superhero adorableness ensues. I love the supporting cast of characters here, and it's all extremely heartwarming, with lots of lovely character moments including Tony stressing out by actually caring about whether people have a good time or not. *_*

#TeamJanet (Avengers, Darcy/Janet) by aria

... it's NYE, and superhero adorableness ensues again! :D :D :D I confess to knowing next to nothing about Janet van Dyne, but reading this story reallyyyy makes me want to fix that, because she seems wonderful. Darcy's POV here is hilarious and very sweet.

I love DW vids that span the entirety of the New Who era, and this does a particularly wonderful job of pulling all kinds of visual and emotional parallels between the different parts of this one great story.

Red Football (Merlin, Gwen, Morgana, others) by sophinisba

In which the women of Merlin fight back against their narratives. Very satisfying!

I haven't recced anything since *June* what is going on. A selection of Doctor Who things I've enjoyed lately:

VID: The Future by bradcpu (Daleks, Oswin)
I'm useless but not for long.

In what is an incredibly slick and thoughtful vid, perhaps the biggest achievement of this vid, to me, is that it makes 'Daleks in Manhattan/Evolution of the Daleks' look like good episodes. Outstanding.

Familiar Grounds by pocketmouse (Amy/Eleven/Rory)
Someone has been giving the people on Geros IV a leg up into the Iron Age. The answer seems simple at first, but quickly turns complicated, between raiding tribes, a greedy interstellar regime, and the Doctor's plans never quite going according to ...plan.

pocketmouse's plotty OT3 fics always delight me, and this one is gorgeous - full of fun tropes like huddling for warmth and accidental marriage, and lots of lovely character interaction.

Phase by parachute_silks
"The first boy I fancied was called Rory. Actually, she was called Nina. I was going through a Phase."

If, like me, the above line grated in the episode, then you'll appreciate this fic, which takes the concept and runs with it in an awesome queer sci-fi backstory way.

A Disordered World by strix_alba (Doctor Who/Sherlock, Molly & Martha)
Nearly a year after the invasion, Molly wakes up, not to the shrieking of the Toclafane, but to a rap on the front door.

I don't read much Sherlock fic, but Molly in the Year That Never Was? Sign me up! It's a great concept and the story completely delivers - Molly's characterisation is wonderful, and I loved seeing Martha through her eyes. And the story may be gen, but I definitely ship it.

And the last one is an excellent story by lizbee that is spoilery for the finale so I'll put it behind a cut.

Ah, my shiny summer fling fandom and my shiny summer fling ship. ♥ SCIENCE BROS ♥

(I think my shipping feelings re. the Avengers can be summed as a) everyone/everyone, b) Tony/Bruce(/Pepper), c) Steve/happiness, and happiness, sometimes thy name is Natasha, d) Natasha/people who appreciate her, and e) did I mention the everyone/everyone? So there's that.)

Anyway! Tony and Bruce! They delight me, and the fic is great. Here are some I've recently enjoyed.

Stark, A.E., and Banner, R. Bruce. (2013). "Biodosimetric Tools for Measuring Induced Isomeric Transition in Inverted Paired States." International Journal of Radiation Biology 89.9, 43-85. by thingswithwings (explicit, Tony/Bruce, Tony/Hulk, with Tony/Pepper in the background, 17000 words)

"And so," Tony concludes triumphantly, "you owe it to science, to yourself, and to the people of New York City to have tons of hot awesome monster sex with me."

This is so great. First there's the title, and it just keeps on being genius from there. What I love most about this is the fact that it's about how when Tony's into someone, he's really into them, every part of them and everything they are and this story does a great job of showing how much he enjoys both Pepper and Bruce and everything about them. (The characterisation of Pepper in this is particularly excellent.) And although this story is demonstrably about Bruce Hulking out during sex and Tony being super into that and the two of them figuring it out, it's also about Bruce's relationship with the Other Guy in a more general sense, and it works really well. <3

Living Dangerously by penknife (Bruce/Tony(/Pepper), rated R, ~1600 words.)

Bruce visits Tony and Pepper. They're very hospitable.

:D Adorable domesticity is adorable.

Emergency Pants by some_stars (explicit, Tony/Bruce, background Tony/Pepper, 5000 words, Rough sex, breathplay, S/M)

"Were you worried?" Tony says. "That's sweet. That is always so adorable when the big guy worries about me."

The inside of Tony's brain is both slightly alarming and completely entertaining, and no more so than in this story. :D

It isn't that Tony doesn't like Bruce. It's just that he also has a few fantasies about the other guy.

I love me a good talking out a fantasy story, and this one is particularly great.

'cause I don't shine if you don't shine

If you like the Ponds, I think you'll really love this. It's fantastically well put together with great sense of motion, musicality, clever lyric matches and lots of awesome parallels and montages like 'strange weaponry!' and 'flaily hands!'. I also love it because although it's from Rory's POV, which it absolutely delivers on, it's very much about both of them and the way that work together so well as a team and save each other all the time and are adorable but also really kickass, both separately and together.

I have watched it approx. eleventy million times since I saw the first draft, and I shall watch the finished version a lot more, I am sure. <3333
