kink_bingo cards are now open.
I really recommend it, it's one of my favourite challenges. It stretches me creatively, and it's a really good way to think about characters and ideas in new and interesting ways. After all, it's not just about sex, a lot of the stories I loved last year looked at personal identity and expression, and challenging social roles, amongst many other themes. It's also worth pointing out it's not just a fic challenge, too - pretty much any fannish expression is welcome, from rec lists to podfic to icon sets. All the squares have tremendously versatility, as demonstrated by the entries inkink_wiki. One of the things I like best about the challenge is the way it makes me push past my initial instincts of 'oh, that kink's not for me', and instead makes me think about how and why it works for people who are into it, which almost always gets me very interested in writing it.

I am pleased by the far left vertical line, as well as the horizontal line second from the bottom. Tentacles! Gender play! Sex toys worn under clothing!
I think I will have to use my free square for body alteration/injury, as I need to finish watching Farscape and make that vid about all the weird body fuckery that goes on there.
My ships-to-try this year so far include some Emily/Naomi, some Peter/El/Neal, and some Amy/Eleven. If anyone has good ideas for particular pairings for particular kinks, please feel free to share. I do not yet know who should get the tentacle treatment. *g*

I agree. I haven't participated before, but I have written kinks that I had previously considered not my own. I love how that makes you really think hard about the specifics of different kinks, and why they are appealing.
I also love the idea of breaking down some of the barriers around kink!fic. When I posted about kink a few months ago, I was surprised how many people seemed to equate it with dark themes and consent issues. Actually, I think you and I may have even discussed this. There are so many different ways to incorporate kink, and I love seeing all the different interpretations.
It looks like participation is going to be HUGE this year, which is awesome!

And I feel compelled to point out that a) it doesn't have to be explicit unless you'd like it to be, and b) you'd have almost a year to do one thing, like make a Mord'Sith picspam or something. *shamelessly encourages* It'd be fun!

I will think about it! Maybe next year? New goal: write something not-fade-to-black and/or an actual vid that isn't gen. (This could be hard; all of the vid concepts I've mentioned are pretty much gen. The least gen one is from SJA, of all things, so kink could be... challenging.)

My favourite thing about Kink Bingo is how it challenges me to write things that I didn't feel totally comfortable writing, like fucking machines, and sleepy/unconscious (which I always considered dubcon but came to be okay with that).
Re. suggestions, I'd love to see a Merlin contemporary AU story with the characters doing historical roleplay, but maybe I'm getting distracted by the meta potential instead of the porn ;-)

And yes, the overcoming discomfort thing is something I really love. I am determined to try and push myself out a little bit further this year!
Also, haha, that was totally my thought for that square too. Although, I'm a bit torn between modern!au Gwen/Morgana or Katie/Angel RPF - I've been wanting to write something that plays with Katie's background in costume for a while. Ah, the decisions!

I signed up for the first time this year, but am incredibly pleased and fired up about my card. It even starts with Tentacles! \o/ And may help me do several types of fannish works. Like you said, it's already making me thing about new kinks.
